The 288-foot 'Fountainhead' is by the Epic Hotel

does mark cuban own a yacht

Fountainhead via instagram/jeffjy23 The 288-foot superyacht many thought belonged to Dallas Mavericks owner and Shark Tank star Mark Cuban is currently docked outside the Epic Hotel in Downtown Miami.

Built in 2011, the 'Fountainhead' is no stranger to the Epic, having been spotted there in the past in addition to the large slip a few blocks north at Museum Park. It's the 62nd largest yacht on the planet and in the same slot previously occupied by the $200-million Kismet , which is owned by Jacksonville Jaguars owner Shahid Khan.

The massive vessel is often mistakingly connected to Cuban but it actually  belongs to Sears CEO Eddie Lampert .

“The guy who owns the boat tells everyone that it’s mine,” Cuban told Page Six this week. “It’s so crazy . . . I don’t even own a boat.”

That Yacht Docked in Boston Isn’t Mark Cuban’s, You Guys

Get a compelling long read and must-have lifestyle tips in your inbox every sunday morning — great with coffee.

The traveling sideshow that is the not-Mark-Cuban’s-yacht made its way to Boston this week.

The cruise-ship-sized vessel, named Fountainhead , has been turning heads since it docked in the North End’s Yacht Haven on Friday, according to the neighborhood news site NorthEndWaterfront.com .

But the billionaire owner of the Dallas Mavericks and co-star of the investment game show Shark Tank wants to make it known he does not own that, or any, yacht. He is emphatic on this point.

“I DON’T OWN A YACHT,” Cuban reportedly wrote in an email to the celebrity gossip website Page Six , the all-caps his.

The owner of the yacht—which is 288 feet long, comes equipped with a basketball hoop, has enough deck space to store two additional boats, hails from the Cayman Islands , and most likely draws its name from the Ayn Rand novel (which Cuban, as luck would have it, has said is one of his favorites )—has been spreading misinformation, Cuban says.

The full email, as reported by Page Six:

I don’t own a yacht. Never have . . . The guy who owns the boat tells EVERYONE that it’s mine. It’s so crazy, I got a letter from someone thanking me because the ship’s doctor had saved this person with CPR . . . had people email me asking if they can come aboard. Of course I always say yes  I DON’T OWN A YACHT.

Unnamed sources told the gossip site the boat’s owner was actually an executive from Sears. Sears didn’t return a request from Boston for comment.

Many, many online resources earlier reported the boat belonged to Cuban. There was Mark Cuban’s yacht docked in Miami , in Bar Harbor , and The Hamptons , the sites reported. Forbes counted Cuban among the big boat owners in its ranking of 100 Biggest Yachts . Passing reference to Cuban and his vessel was made in a Thrillist list of the 8 Most Ridiculous Yachts in the World .

Then on Tuesday came a series of stories about how the nautical wonder absolutely didn’t belong to the wealthy basketball figure and TV personality.

One of them came from the Boston Business Journal , a reporter for which also reached out to Cuban by texting him directly on a messaging app he owns called Cyber Dust .

“I don’t,” Cuban tells BBJ reporter Sara Castellanos, “have a yacht.”

He nicknamed his future ride "Buddy" and had it brought in from Canada. Unfortunately, the Department of Homeland Security snatched it up before he could board it .

The reason: Arrington says he noticed an error on the paperwork and refused to sign it until it was fixed. His boat was seized instead.

Mark Cuban Reveals The One Reason Why He Avoids Yachts, Butlers And Chauffeurs

Zinger key points.

  • Cuban corrected assumptions about owning a 288-foot yacht and said he doesn't own a boat.

Mark Cuban  may be a billionaire investor and owner of the Dallas Mavericks, but he doesn't always act like one.

During an  episode  of "The Really Good Podcast" last week, Cuban shared that he deliberately avoids certain habits typically associated with the extremely wealthy.

"I just try to be the same person, I mean, as I was when I was poor, middle, and rich," Cuban told host Bobbi Althoff on the podcast.

Cuban, who is often known for his antics during NBA games and as a saavy investor on "Shark Tank," said that he doesn't hire staff to clean his home, cook his meals or drive for him. He said purchasing a yacht is "just not what I would do." He added that more staff often means less privacy for those like him who employ large teams.

"I like the privacy," Cuban said. "I've been around people who hire somebody to do everything for them, and that's just, like, no privacy."

During the interview, Cuban corrected assumptions about his ownership of a 288-foot yacht. "The guy who owns the boat tells everyone it's mine," Cuban said. "It's so crazy, I don't even own a boat."

During an interview earlier in July, Cuban shared about the one time  he missed one of the biggest investments of his life.

See Mark Cuban's 288-foot yacht with basketball court on the stern

If you were on Mark Cuban's level, there's you no question you'd roll in style. But would you roll in this much style?

Cuban's 288-foot yacht "Fountainhead" recently was docked outside of Miami hotel the Epic.

If you were walking along outside the hotel, it would be pretty hard to miss this boat.

The Mavs owner is clearly ready to host his players at all times as there is a basketball hoop attached to the stern. Because if a Mav takes a vacation on a yacht the first thing on his mind is practicing on the water, right?

Have to wonder how it feels to be a Miami Heat fan and down on the water is gigantic reminder of the team that beat the locals in the 2011 finals.

Was that Mark Cuban’s yacht in Boston Harbor?

does mark cuban own a yacht

Dallas Mavericks owner and television personality Mark Cuban insists — really insists — that a massive, 288-foot-long yacht, complete with a basketball hoop, that had been docked in Boston waters is in no way, shape, or form his vessel.

Boston police Monday begged to differ. They shared on social media an image of kids leaning out from the side of a boat on the harbor, staring up at a glistening yacht they believed belonged to Cuban.

“The kids got a kick out of seeing [Dallas Mavericks’] Mark Cuban’s yacht in Boston Harbor!,” police said on Twitter .

The children were on the police boat, marveling at the large vessel and its many shiny components, as part of the police department’s summertime Jr. Police Academy program. It was unclear when the image was taken. Police did not immediately return a request for comment.

It seems the yacht has since left the Boston area. It was logged Monday as being docked in Portland, Maine, according to MarineTraffic.com .

But were they actually looking at Cuban’s boat?

The “Is-that-Mark-Cuban’s-yacht?” rumors have been swirling locally since the massive luxury ship first arrived in the city’s North End neighborhood, at Boston Yacht Haven, earlier this month .

They go back even further, however. Since last summer, when the boat was spotted in Maine, reports have pegged Cuban as the boat’s owner.

But Cuban told the Boston Business Journal in a message sent through the billionaire entrepreneur’s own app, Cyber Dust, that it’s not his .

“I don’t have a yacht,” he reportedly said to technology reporter Sara Castellanos, before the message vanished.

And he shouted it (no, really, he wrote it in all capital letters) in a statement to the New York Post’s Page Six, after being pestered about the mystery of the boat’s ownership yet again.

“The guy who owns the boat tells everyone that it’s mine,” Cuban told the gossip page in early July, after the yacht, called “Fountainhead,” an apparent tip-of-the-hat to the Ayn Rand book of the same name, appeared in the Hamptons.

“It’s so crazy . . . I don’t even own a boat,” he added, making sure the weight of the statement hit harder than an anchor to the ocean floor.

It’s been reported that the yacht is actually the property of Sears chief executive Eddie Lampert. The conversation about who is at the helm of the yacht seemed to have sunk, for a time, into the depths of the ocean.

But with the latest allegations from Boston police, it looks like the rumors may have bobbed back to the surface.

Born and raised in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, Mark Cuban is an American businessman and investor widely known as the owner of the National Basketball Association's (NBA) Dallas Mavericks. When not on the court, Cuban is also known for appearing as a judge on the ABC business reality television series Shark Tank, where entrepreneurs pitch their ideas to a panel of investors to persuade them to invest in their businesses.

Apart from molding NBA careers, investing in start-ups, and trying to reinvent the pharmaceutical drug sales industry, Cuban seems to love private jets. In fact, the wealthiest of the "Sharks" in the tank has two. This already puts him ahead of other wealthy business executives and celebrities who have only managed to keep one aircraft in their fleet.

Mark Cuban's two jets are also no mere Cirrus SF50s, clocking in at $1.96 million. With a net worth of over $6.2 billion, it is no secret that the Shark Tank investor would think bigger regarding private air travel. As such, the Mavericks boss has a Boeing 757 outfitted for a world-class sports team and a Gulfstream G550 business jet.

Setting a Guinness world record with the Gulfstream

While his first-ever private jet experience was on a Gulfstream II, Cuban owns a 22-year-old Gulfstream G550. He bought the jet in 1999, just after he made his first billion from selling his second company, Broadcast.com, to Yahoo. The $40 million purchase placed Cuban in the Guinness Book of World Records for the 'largest single e-commerce transaction.'

He still holds the record to this day, showing that clicking "buy" on the internet just isn't the same for everyone. In an interview with Business Jet Traveler , Cuban said he e-mailed Gulfstream after researching the company's website. They arranged to set up a demo flight for his pilot, who subsequently raved about it, sealing the deal without Cuban ever setting foot on his new investment.

Mark Cuban's smartest purchase

In another interview with Men's Journal Health & Fitness , Cuban said the jet was the smartest thing he had ever spent money on as it allowed him to spend more time with loved ones. "It is obviously brutally expensive, but time is the one asset we simply don't own. It saves me hours and hours," Cuban said. He added that the most important things in life are family, time, being nice, and avoiding stress.

The Gulfstream G550 is a popular choice among private jet users, offering a spacious cabin which can accommodate up to 19 passengers, in addition to a private bathroom and sleeping spaces. Speaking to Business Jet Traveler about some executives who have stopped flying private because of public criticism, Cuban highlighted the convenience of business jet travel. "They have to make their own decisions, but I just hope I compete with them. I get to work while they get to stand in line at the airport," he added.

The Mavericks Boeing 757

The second jet in Mark Cuban's collection is a Boeing 757-200, which he acquired for $36 million to transport his NBA team. Cuban purchased the Mavericks in 2000, shortly after buying the G550. While refusing to offer details on how the plane is outfitted, Cuban says he came up with the strategic vision for the plane, specifically focusing on providing space for players taller than seven feet.

It also has a weight room, special meeting set-ups, and space for medical treatments, as well as coaching and connectivity resources. While there is no footage of the aircraft's interior, it sounds reminiscent of the concept developed by NIKE and cabin designer Teague, specifically catering to professional athletes and sports teams. Cuban, who travels with his Mavericks to most games, believes that the decked-out unique cabin gives them a competitive advantage.

Built in June 1993, The Mavericks' 757 (registration N801DM) is now just over 30 years old. It was first delivered to Iberia, which operated it until November 2000. According to ch-aviation , it typically seats 63 passengers in an all-business configuration. By the early 2010s, the aircraft had clocked over 16,000 flight hours across 11,617 flight cycles. Now, it typically flies for approximately 600 hours per year.

When the NBA season is over, Cuban charters the jet to larger groups requiring high-end seating. In 2006, the jet was upgraded with Blended Winglet Technology from Aviation Partners Inc., increasing its range and eliminating long-haul refueling stops. The 757 can be spotted ferrying the Mavericks back and forth between Dallas and other cities with teams in the Western Conference.

Other teams with private jets

While privileged to have a customized Boeing narrowbody, the Mavericks are far from the only US sporting team to own a private aircraft for flying to and from games. Other well-known names include the New England Patriots, with a Boeing 767 (N36NE), which has served since 2017 and whose livery is iconic at airports hosting games. The Arizona Cardinals have one of the largest aircraft in sports, with a Boeing 777-200 to move their players across the country through the NFL season.

While the environmental footprint for teams using private jets is certainly high, they attempt to justify this by how much flying they must do each year. With dozens of players and staff traveling from city to city with tight turnarounds and the need for specialized equipment and medical rooms, private jets are best suited for these teams.

A private Boeing 767

Unsurprisingly, the most expensive jet in Cuban's collection was a Boeing 767-200. The widebody was operated by MLW Air, a company founded by Cuban and partners to offer high-end charter operations and occasionally serve the Mavericks, with registration N767MV. However, the aircraft now seems to have been scrapped. Its last flight was in February 2021, and it was sold to an aircraft parts company, indicating the end of the road for the nearly 40-year-old aircraft.

After gaining fame in their respective fields of expertise, many celebrities purchase their own jets to make their worldwide business and personal travel more accessible. Many of them acquire a single aircraft and fly it everywhere, but only a handful can say they have a collection. Respectfully, owning two or more aircraft also takes a different level of wealth.

Apart from Mark Cuban, a few other celebrities, including John Travolta, Tom Cruise, and Cristiano Ronaldo, are known to have a collection of private jets. John Travolta's portfolio is by far the most exciting , with a Bombardier Challenger, a Dassault Falcon 900, a couple of Gulfstream jets, an Eclipse 500, and a Boeing 727. He also owned a Boeing 707 , which he later donated to Australia's Historical Aircraft Restoration Society (HARS).

Tom Cruise has at least two aircraft in his fleet , including a Gulfstream IV worth about $20 million and a classic P-51 Mustang. Meanwhile, legendary soccer star Cristiano Ronaldo owns a $65.5 million Gulfstream G650 and previously a $25 million G200. However, the latter was reportedly put up for sale last year .

If you were given enough money to purchase a private jet today, which one would you go for? Feel free to let us know in the comments how you would customize it!

Mark Cuban explains why he sold his majority stake of the Dallas Mavericks

DALLAS — Mark Cuban sees a future of NBA ownership where the advantages will be in real estate.

The high-profile billionaire says that’s why he sold his majority stake in the Dallas Mavericks to a pair of families with strong ties to the hotel and casino industry.

The NBA on Wednesday approved Cuban’s sale of a controlling interest in the Mavericks to the Adelson and Dumont families, who run Las Vegas Sands Corp.

The deal was approved just shy of a month since  Miriam Adelson and Sivan and Patrick Dumont announced their intention to buy  the club. The purchase is in the valuation range of $3.5 billion.

Patrick Dumont, Adelson’s son-in-law and president and chief operating officer of Las Vegas Sands, will serve as Mavericks governor.  Adelson  is the widow of casino magnate Sheldon Adelson.

Cuban will be the alternate governor with a 27% stake in the club and will maintain control of basketball operations. He made it clear there were no plans for the franchise to leave Dallas.

“The advantage is what can you build and where and you need to have somebody who’s really, really good at that,” Cuban said before the Mavs’ game against Cleveland on Wednesday night. “Patrick and Miriam, they’re the best in the world at what they do. Literally, around the world.

“When you get a world-class partner who can come in and grow your revenue base and you’re not dependent on things that you were in the past, that’s a huge win,” Cuban said.

Miriam Adelson is the controlling shareholder of Las Vegas Sands Corp., a publicly traded Las Vegas company that built the Venetian and Palazzo resorts but now only has casino operations in Macau and Singapore. Sheldon Adelson, the founder of Las Vegas Sands, died in 2021 at age 87.

“Through our commitment and additional investment in the team, we look forward to partnering with Mark Cuban to build on the team’s success and legacy in Dallas and beyond,” the Adelson and Dumont families said in a statement. “The goal is to win and to have a team that proudly represents the greater DFW area and serves as a strong and valuable member of the local community.”

Cuban said when he bought the Mavericks in 2000, he had the advantage of understanding technology. He became a billionaire when the radio internet streaming company he co-founded was bought by Yahoo.

Now, the future of media rights deals is in question. Diamond Sports, the company that owns the regional sports network that carries the Mavericks, is in bankruptcy proceedings.

Cuban said the sale makes revenue from media rights deals much less of a concern for the Mavericks.

“Financially, we’re in a far better position this afternoon than we were yesterday afternoon to be able to compete like that,” Cuban said.

The 65-year-old insisted he would have the final say in the hiring and firing of coaches, and the signing of free agents, “unless we’re going to go hire somebody that cost $300 million a year.”

And Cuban said spending to keep the team competitive won’t be an issue with Patrick Dumont.

“He basically said, ‘Just do what you’ve got to do. I want to win,’” Cuban said.

Gambling isn’t legal in Texas , and efforts to legalize it face steep odds. Still, Miriam Adelson has made no secret of her push to bring casino gambling to the Lone Star State.

She pumped more than $2 million last year into a political action committee, called Texas Sands, which donated lavishly to state legislators and swarmed the GOP-controlled Capitol with lobbyists. She gave an additional $1 million separately to Republican Gov. Greg Abbott.

But the spending blitz failed to deliver a breakthrough this year in the Texas Legislature, where resistance to legalizing casinos runs deep.

Asked how active he would be in trying to get gambling legalized in Texas, Cuban said, “As active as I need to be because I think it’s the right thing for the state of Texas.”

“Honestly, I don’t care so much about sports betting,” Cuban said. “If you look at destination resorts and casinos, the casino part of it is tiny, relative to the whole bigger destination aspect of it. Could you imagine building the Venetian in Dallas, Texas? That would just change everything.”

Dallas was one of the worst franchises in pro sports in the 1990s but turned into one of the best under Cuban, with a lot of help from star forward Dirk Nowitzki — now a member of the Basketball Hall of Fame and the leader of the team that won the 2011 NBA championship.

A self-professed basketball junkie who graduated from Indiana University, Cuban is almost always courtside for Mavericks games. He still will be.

“It’s a partnership,” Cuban said. “They’re not basketball people. I’m not real estate people. That’s why I did it. I could have gotten more money from somebody else. I’ve known these guys for a long time. They’re great at the things I’m not good at.”

What companies has mark cuban invested in.

Mark Cuban is best known as the billionaire owner of the Dallas Mavericks, but it turns out he has a number of diverse interests — and he’s willing to support them financially. A look at the website of Mark Cuban Companies shows the variety of companies he either owns outright or has invested in, and the list is impressive in both its volume and breadth.

How To Buy ChatGPT Stock: Your 2023 Guide to AI Investing More: Demand for Gold is Up. Here’s Everything You Need to Know.

Cuban got an early start as an entrepreneur when, at age 12, he sold garbage bags door to door. Later, while still a student at Indiana University in Bloomington, Cuban opened Motley’s Pub, which Cuban’s website says was the most popular bar in town.

Impressive as those early ventures were, they pale in comparison to the business that set Cuban’s course as a billionaire: MicroSolutions, a computer consulting firm he eventually sold to CompuServe for $6 million. Next came Broadcast.com, a streaming audio service Cuban started with a friend, Todd Wagner, and later sold to Yahoo for $5.7 billion in stock, according to CNBC’s “Make It.” Cuban bought a majority state in the Dallas Mavericks the following year.

Today, Cuban serves as the Mavericks’ proprietor and oversees the Mark Cuban Foundation and Mark Cuban Companies, his venture capital and private equity firm. Mark Cuban Companies’ investments include businesses owned by minorities or women and those started by entrepreneurs with ties to the military. His portfolio is growing in the blockchain sector. Cuban’s other business interests include health, fitness, eating well and the environment.

Read on to learn more about what Mark Cuban has invested in and some of the impressive financial gains made so far .

12 Companies Mark Cuban Has Invested In

Some of Cuban’s investments have resulted from pitches made on the television show “Shark Tank,” where he and other business experts hear from entrepreneurs who need an infusion of cash for their startups. Others come from chance meetings and even cold pitches from entrepreneurs whose ideas impress him.

Mark Cuban Cost Plus Drugs

Mark Cuban Cost Plus Drugs aims to produce low-cost versions of expensive generic drugs and price them straightforwardly and transparently. The idea for the company was inspired by the “Pharma Bro” scandal that resulted when Turning Pharmaceuticals increased the price of Daraprim, an anti-parasitic drug, by 5,000%, Forbes reported, putting it out of reach of those who needed it most. The move turned Turning CEO Martin Shkreli into a poster for corporate greed and infuriated Dr. Alex Oshmyansky, a physician and entrepreneur. Oshmyansky reached out to Cuban via a cold email. Mark Cuban Plus Drug Company, which Oshmyansky founded and helms, is the result of their collaboration. The company expanded to include a direct-to-consumer online pharmacy in January.

Steven McKean, Brian Keaney and Michael Mora founded Billshark in 2016 to save customers time and money by negotiating their monthly bills and identifying unused subscriptions. To date, Billshark has saved consumers and small businesses over $10 million, and it hopes to save them $2.7 billion by 2025. Impressed with Billshark’s service and seeing potential in its platform, Cuban came on board as an investor and advisor in 2018 to help the company with its application programming interface — the software that would allow companies to integrate Billshark on their platforms. Since then, Billshark has partnered with a number of financial institutions and fintech companies. Mint , the money management platform owned by Intuit, announced in January that Billshark would power its new Bill Negotiation tool.

Gameday Couture

In 2014, Marl Cuban invested $500,000 for a 30% stake of Gameday Couture, which started making officially licensed college apparel for women. Co-owners Kurt and Shawnna Feddersen began the Oklahoma-based company to help women look stylish while cheering for their favorite team. By 2018, Gameday Couture had annual sales of $12 million. At the time of Cuban’s investment, Gameday Couture held licenses with more than 30 universities. Today, it contains over 200 NCAA licenses and is sold in over 2,500 stores nationwide.

Nuts ‘N More

A meeting between three 40-something friends in 2010 in Providence, Rhode Island, led to the creation of Nuts ‘N More, which started out selling high-protein nut butter spread with fitness enthusiasts in mind. An appearance on “Shark Tank” in 2013 garnered the young company an investment of $75,000 from Cuban and fellow shark Robert Herjavec in exchange for 35% of the company. Today, the company has more than 20 flavors and sells high-protein peanut and almond butter spreads, snack packs and more. Before the appearance on “Shark Tank,” the company made sales of about $100,000 a year. By 2018, sales reached about $6 million annually.

Konel Banner long had recognized the need for fire-starting technology, and when he met outdoor enthusiast Frank Weston, who also had a background in firefighting, they partnered to develop InstaFire. They met mornings for nine months in an abandoned, owl-infested warehouse to develop a product that was safe, easy to use and reliable — something that could be counted on in an emergency. Cuban teamed with fellow investor Lori Greiner to put $300,000 into the company in exchange for 30% ownership in 2016. The company has expanded its product offerings, especially those that boost environmental friendliness. On her website, Greiner said the InstaFire had $7.5 million in retail sales in the first three years following its “Shark Tank” appearance.

Mrs. Goldfarb’s Unreal Deli

Jenny Goldfarb grew up in a family that ran a Jewish deli business in New York. Once she went vegan, she decided that the deli staple of a corned beef sandwich could co-exist with her lifestyle and created Mrs. Goldfarb’s Unreal Deli in 2018, producing plant-made deli meats. Her products are kosher, animal-free, cholesterol-free, nitrate-free, low in fat, low carb and full of protein. In a 2019 “Shark Tank” episode, Cuban gave Goldfarb $250,000 for a 20% stake in the company, and it’s one of just several investments he’s made in plant-based businesses. Cuban is a vegetarian.

Simple Sugars

Lani Lazzari was a young teen looking to find relief from her eczema. Despite numerous visits to the dermatologist, she had no solution for her sensitive skin until she started experimenting with her own concoctions in the family kitchen. By 2005, for the first time ever, she had relief and was eczema-free, thanks to her own recipes. She appeared on “Shark Tank” in 2013, and Cuban walked away with 33% of the company for his $100,000 investment. Sales for the Pittsburgh-based company rose from $44,000 to $6 million after the “Shark Tank” appearance.

In 2018, first-generation American Krystal Persaud decided to use her experience designing consumer electronics at a New York company to start Grouphug and emphasize sustainability. Her creation: window solar panels that connect to chargers for cell phones and other devices. “While the sun hits your solar panel during the day, all of that energy gets stored in an internal battery, meaning you can charge your favorite devices day or night,” she said on a 2020 episode of “Shark Tank.” Sold on the promise of the concept, Cuban gave her $150,000 for a 25% stake in the company.

Coconut Girl

Spurred by his belief in healthy eating (and maybe a sweet treat, too), Cuban bought a 20% stake of Coconut Girl in 2020 for $180,000. The company was founded by Francheska “Frankie” Yamsuan, who developed the dairy-free, gluten-free line of ice cream sandwiches in 2018. Coconut Girl’s products are sold in flavors that include Hang Loose Vanilla and Aloha Chocolate. Coconut Girl doesn’t use cane sugar and products are sweetened with dates, honey and maple syrup. The company’s website boasts the treats are “grain free, paleo and pretty much guilt free.”

Shower Toga

An outdoor enthusiast, Georgia mom Kressa Peterson knew what it’s like to get grimy and muddy with no way to remove her dirty clothes to wash off — without creating a public spectacle. So she created Shower Toga — which users put over their clothes before pulling them off from underneath — with campers, bikers, endurance athletes and more in mind. It’s washable and reusable. While at least one of the investors on “Shark Tank” likened it to a plastic trash bag, Cuban and guest Shark Alli Webb saw the value and plunked down $80,000 for a 40% ownership of the company.

Ready. Set. Eat!

Founded in 2017, the company Ready. Set. Eat! introduces children as young as four months old to peanut, egg and milk allergens with the goal of reducing kids’ risk of developing allergies to them by as much as 80%. That is achieved by supplementing a baby’s bottle or food with a packet of the allergens. Cuban made an initial investment of $350,000 through “Shark Tank” and then took part in a $3 million financing round.

“As a parent of a child with a severe peanut allergy, I know firsthand the impact it has on families across the country … We will work on making sure every parent knows about early allergen introduction,” Cuban said in a news release. He is a father of three.

The Living Christmas Co.

As a teenager in Southern California, Scott Martin used to deliver Christmas trees to customers. “Because I worked in a nursery I thought, ‘Why do people cut down trees to bring in the house when there are perfectly good living trees that can be brought in the house and afterwards they keep on living,'” he told Spectrum News in 2019. So as an adult, he founded The Living Christmas Co., which delivers live, potted trees that families care for during the holidays, and he’ll return to pick them up. Then, he will rent the same tree to another family next year, saving the life of a tree. Needing money for capital and infrastructure, he went on “Shark Tank” and found some disbelievers. But Cuban, calling himself a “believer in convenience with a conscience,” invested $150,000 for 40% of the company. The company is still in business, but not much is known about its growth and revenues.

So, how does a business owner get their idea in front of Cuban and, perhaps, score some venture capital? Email is the key — you can find his address online with a bit of digging. Cuban told “Raising the Bar” podcast hosts Alli Webb and Adrian Koehler that he spends hours glancing through emails and responding to those that catch his attention.

Your best bet for avoiding Cuban’s email trash can and his auto-delete filter is not to waste a second of his time. “You’ve got one paragraph to get my attention,” he told Webb and Koehler. Get to the point about what your product does, and avoid making exaggerated claims. If your product is viable and your email is one of the 10% or so Cuban reads in-depth, your business could make its way into Cuban’s investment portfolio.

Outspoken businessman, media personality, and savvy investor, Mark Cuban's presence is hard to miss. Since earning his initial fortune selling his first company in 1990, Cuban has stayed active, continuously searching for his next big venture and eventually finding his way to TV screens everywhere as one of the core investors on NBC ’s hit reality show Shark Tank.

Cuban, a Pittsburgh native, got his big break in Texas in the 1980s after he was fired from his job as a computer software salesman. Leveraging the customer relationships he made selling computer software, Cuban founded MicroSolutions, which initially began as a system integrator and software reseller. By 1990, MicroSolutions had transformed into a multimillion-dollar business and was acquired by CompuServe (then a subsidiary of H&R Block ) for $6 million.

Looking to repeat his success, Cuban joined a company called Audionet in 1995. Three years later the webcasting service rebranded to Broadcast.com, and a year after that, was sold to Yahoo! for $5.7 billion in Yahoo! Stock. This sale made Cuban a billionaire overnight.

As of 2020, Cuban is the 414th richest person in the world with a net worth of $4.3 billion, per Forbes . He has sustained and grown his wealth through investments in startups and his own business ventures. His business acumen and outspoken nature has made him a regular media personality and landed him a starring role on Shark Tank, where he has invested in countless startups and entrepreneurs.

But outside the dozens of startups he has a stake in, what companies does the billionaire own? Read on to find out.

Cuban’s most high-profile role, outside Shark Tank, is owning the Dallas Mavericks , the NBA franchise based out of Texas’ third-largest city. He bought the team in 2000 for $285 million and quickly turned the organization around. Before Cuban’s arrival, the team had a losing record, but by 2006, the Mavericks had made their first trip to the NBA Finals and in 2011, won its first-ever NBA championship.

In 2003, Cuban teamed up with fellow entrepreneur Todd Wagner to create 2929 Entertainment , a venture aimed at developing, financing, and producing independent films outside of Hollywood’s studio system. The company thrived since its founding and made a slew of acquisitions. 2929 Production’s subsidiaries currently include Magnolia Pictures, Truly Indie, AXS TV, and HDNet Movies.

2929 Entertainment has enjoyed several successful releases, including Enron: The Smartest Guys in the Room, Akeelah and the Bee, and George Clooney’s Good Night. And Good Luck, which grossed over $30 million in the U.S., was nominated for six Academy Awards, including Best Picture.

Ten Thirty-One Productions landed the biggest investment in the hitory of the show. Now owned by Thirteenth Floor Entertainment Group , the company, which produces live horror-themed attractions, had secured a $2 million deal with Cuban in exchange for a 20% stake.

Rugged Maniac , which operates as Rugged Races reached a deal with Mark Cuban for a $1.75 million investment, giving him 25% ownership of the annual obstacle course race business. Since Rugged Races first appearance on the show, the company has expanded to Canada and an additional 28 cities. The company has also created a slew of other races, including "The Costume Dash 5K.”

BeatBox Beverages , which now falls under Future Proof Brands , secured a $1 million investment with Cuban in 2014 in exchange for 33% of the boxed party punch company. Four years later, the company raised $4.7 million in a Series A funding round.

does mark cuban own a yacht

How much of the Dallas Mavericks does Mark Cuban still own? Who is the majority owner now?

I n 2000 American businessman Mark Cuban purchased a majority stake in the Dallas Mavericks . At the time the Mavs were a fairly unappealing prospect, with just one division title in their 20-year history and a win percentage of just 40%.

Since then, however, Dallas has become a real force in the NBA , winning a further four division titles (2007, 2010, 2021, 2024), two conference titles (2006, 2011) and their first-ever championship in 2011 . Dallas look well-placed to go deep in the playoffs again this year but have had a major change of ownership.

In December Mark Cuban, who has been credited with helping the team’s dramatic improvement, sold a 73% stake in the Dallas Mavericks to Miriam Adelson and Sivan and Patrick Dumont .

The Adelson and Dumont families are thought to have paid around $3.5 billion for a controlling share of the Mavericks . Cuban retains a 27% stake in the team and remains in charge of the basketball operations.

Why did Mark Cuban sell his stake in the Dallas Mavericks?

The Pittsburgh-born entrepreneur is not short on business ventures. He is the co-owner of 2929 Entertainment, the founder of AXS TV and HDNet and a prolific investor through the television show Shark Tank. He even owns the town of Mustang in Texas , which he bought for $2 million in 2021.

With all that going on, Cuban decided that he need to bring in fresh cash and greater experience to help his forays in the real estate business. The Adelson and Dumont families made their money in casino and hotel businesses and Cuban said that he was excited to bring their skills and experience on board.

“The advantage is what can you build and where and you need to have somebody who’s really, really good at that,” Cuban said when the deal was announced. “ Patrick and Miriam, they’re the best in the world at what they do. Literally, around the world . When you get a world-class partner who can come in and grow your revenue base and you’re not dependent on things that you were in the past, that’s a huge win.”

The businessman, Shark Tank star and NBA investor has been selling off a proportion of his stake in the Dallas team.
