To the South of Phuket there is a 100 nautical mile string of inshore islands, stretching from Koh Phi Phi to the Malaysian border. They offer tranquility and many opportunities for exploring.

East and South East of Phuket Island, the fabulous Phang Nga Bay, Krabi and Phi Phi Islands, together form an area of about 500 square miles. Here you will find sheltered sailing in all seasons.

The entire area is dotted with impressive lime stone formations, honeycombed with caves and fringed by mangroves. Three major rivers plus a couple of smaller ones flow in the Phang Nga Bay.

This is very much catamaran country, one could cruise here for many months exploring creeks, rivers and drying out in the mangroves. A typical feature are the hongs, high limestone islands which have collapsed in the middle, leaving a landlocked lagoon. Several of these lagoons are accessible by dinghy or kayak at low tide through caves.

Further attractions are Railey Beach, said to be one of the most beautiful beaches in the world and the well-known Phi Phi Islands offering impressive surroundings as well as great nightlife.

How do i book catamaran cataleya, and how do i pay.

If you wish to book a trip, after having confirmed availability, please notify us. You will then receive an invoice stating the amounts to be paid as a deposit and the outstanding balance. Also, the dates when these amounts are to be paid are stated. 

The deposit is due no later than 5 days after the invoice has been sent. After depositing, please inform us of your payment. Upon receiving this payment we will immediately send you a confirmation. 

We reserve the right to sell the charter to another party after sending the invoice, if not paid immediately after receiving the invoice. The general rule is first confirmed deposit, will receive the charter.

Can I make changes to my booking?

If the changes do not affect our scheduling, we will not charge you for making changes to your reservation. We will try to accommodate significant changes based on the circumstances.

Do I need insurance?

Your sailing holiday in phuket could start like this:.

You arrive by airplane at Phuket airport, where we pick you up and drive you to the base. In Chalong Bay our captain will meet you and brings you with the dinghy to Catamaran Cataleya.

You put your luggage into your cabin, get rid of the winter clothes, get your shorts on and a T-shirt.

When you get to the front of the yacht and relax in one of the bean bags, you close your eyes and ask “Where is the Champagne?”

We raise the sails and travel on a warm wind towards the sun, anchor in a beautiful bay on a tropical island.

The crew serves you exquisite local and European food freshly prepared and then, at last, you realize that you are on holiday!

Catamaran Sailing Areas In Thailand

Whether for a day charter or for a longer luxury yacht sailing holiday, there are two broad areas in which you will can do a Thailand yacht charter - the Andaman Sea and the Gulf of Thailand.

A Phuket yacht charter on the Andaman Sea is one of the more popular Thailand catamaran charter holidays. Out of one of the four marinas like Phuket Yacht Haven, either on a crewed yacht charter or on a bareboat charter you can explore the more famous Thai tourist spots like the Similan Islands and Surin Island off the west coast of the mainland where you can enjoy some of the best scuba diving and snorkeling in the world.

To the east of Phuket Island is Phang Nga Bay with its world famous limestone spire islands and Ao Nang beach resort in Krabi on the Malay Peninsula. To the south of Phuket Island is Phi Phi Island with its famous white sand beach, excellent coral reefs for scuba diving and unlimited partying.

When you think of the Gulf of Thailand you may only have heard of the backpackers' mecca of Koh Samui. While a famous national park with its sandy beaches, there's more to the Gulf of Thailand than Samui! For a start you cannot charter a yacht out of Samui but would likely be on a crewed yacht charter out of Koh Chang to the north. A bareboator skippered Koh Chang yacht charter is an opportunity to see a part of Thailand that is still very much off the beaten track and a chance to see, taste and feel the authentic Thailand. Though there are no direct flights to the island unlike Phuket (you will have to change planes at Bangkok) you will find a bit of Thailand that many westerners have yet to explore.

Crewed Catamaran Charter or Bareboat:

When it comes to a Thailand catamaran charter you typically have two choices - bareboat or crewed catamaran charter.

Skippered Charter: A skippered yacht charter gives you the advantage of being able to get afloat without having to invest in getting sailing qualifications beforehand. For a crewed catamaran you will pay a fixed fee for the crew and skipper as well as their food and a tip at the end.

When you get to a luxury yacht charter with crew these prices will increase and costs also depend on where you plan to sail to along with the size and type of boat rental on your sailing holiday.

In some cases, skippers will also be the boat owner (typically day charter) which means they will know all the best-secluded beaches to show you the best that the area has to offer with their local knowledge.

For day trips you will often be able to use a skipper as well and prices will vary depending on the type of charter boat.

Bareboat Catamaran Charter: For skilled sailors, a bareboat yacht charter is cheaper and gives more privacy for you and your charter guests. Many sailors prefer to be helming the charter yacht while choosing their own course, and provided you have the knowledge and relevant qualifications you can skipper these boats yourself.

Do You Need A Licence To Charter A Catamaran In Thailand

If you are on a crewed Thailand catamaran charter you do not need a license to sail - you can just turn up at the marina and go.

You do need a license if you are on a bareboat catamaran charter and in some countries a Day Skipper or ICC may not be enough for boats over 45 feet in length, you will need to check with the charter agent but here are some examples of typical sailing qualifications that will allow you to charter in most countries:

International Certificate of Competence : This is issued on request by your European sailing authority and you should automatically qualify with certain national sailing qualifications.

RYA Qualifications: If you have the following qualifications you will typically be able to take a bareboat charter out of Thailand (but it is worth checking as per above), these include Day Skipper, Coastal Skipper (sail or motor endorsement) or Yachtmaster.

American Sailing Association (ASA): The ASA 104 Bareboat certificate is commonly accepted but also check as per above

US Sailing : The International Proficiency Certificate is widely accepted and The Bareboat Cruising Certificate is also accepted in many cases.

You will typically pay 50% up front on booking the catamaran hire and the balance on arrival. You will either pay a security deposit with your credit card on departure or can get insurance covering damage in advance. In some cases (such as the recent Covid situation) charter companies may be more flexible but this depends on the individual charter companies themselves.

What happens if my Catamaran breaks down?

If you are at sea and in danger, call MAYDAY on VHF Ch16 or ring the coast guard on your phone if you have reception. If you have a mechanical fault and can make it to or are on a mooring you will be able to phone a help line number given by the boat charter company and they can typically send someone from the charter base

What should I think of before I hire a Catamaran in Thailand?

You should consider do you have the experience to handle the catamaran before you book and where do you want to go along with what the weather will be like. Bring warm weather and cool weather clothing if it looks like the weather can be cool as well as warm and remember at sea it can be cool in the evenings.

What Qualifications Do I need to hire a Catamaran?

If you want to sail without a skipper then you will need relevant qualifications like RYA Day Skipper/International Certificate of Competence (ICC)/ASA 104 Bareboat certificate or the US Sailing Certificate. If you choose to have a skipper on board your catamaran you won't require licences.

399'000 THB ONLY !!! 40ft Herreshoff designed, Wooden Ketch. Built in Martha's Vineyard USA and launched in 1992. Only 2 boat of this design were built so a chance to pick up quite a rare boat. The hull is 3 layers of Cold Moulded Canadian Cedar wood. Each layer is epoxyed together with off set grain. Incredibly strong method and lots of hard woods internal. All stuff that termites do not like. Boat needs. 1. New Vacuum toilet, 2. 3 ring Gas cooker with Oven needs service, 3. Front deck hatch with Tinted window needs new hinges. (Not a big job) 3A, Aft Deck and Transom need the most work doing and I will send you separate pics in an hour. 4. Boat is equipped with a spare Mizzen sail and a Spare Fore sail. Foresail is on a Roller Furler Only one main sail. 5 . I recently installed 6 new Sealed Lead acid Batteries giving total about 800amps. 6, also 3 x new solar panels. Working well and batteries have never been below 12.5v even in cloudy weather and / or monsoon season. 7. 100m of chain and Anchor on a Maxwell horizontal winch. 8. Also 100m of 1 1/8' rope rode + 10m of chain to a 2nd anchor. 9 AIS fitted 10. VHF radio and ICOM SSB radio. 11, 220v power tools and a big selection of hand tools, socket sets, 12, Lowrance Plotter with fish finder and depth sounder. The Boat does not have an inboard engine but uses a Yamaha, 9.9hp 4stk petrol engine. So no petrol or diesel smells below deck and any problems with the outboard can be dealt with quickly and no problem with leaking shaft sealing on thru hulls and no problems with shaft alignment. Large icebox, bluetooth stereo, big BBQ, toilet, 2 stand-up paddle boards, snorkel & fishing gear, storage area in port hull (life vests, cusions etc.). Open cockpit/fresh breeze. No cabins and no aircons (and pls no morons). (If you are looking for luxury.... buy a Lagoon 65...) Yamaha outbord 20hp 4 stroke, bought new, not much in use, now just got a full service (again). Speed by engine 5kns, speed by sail 5-10kns. Boat has almost no draft 1 foot.... blade rudders are replaced to have wheel steering at healm, now rudder deepth has 3 feet (in the back so can still go up to most beaches). Minimum 1 deckhand (500-900B) needs to be rented per day, IF you have a Thai wife that can buy a Thai skipper licence (she get the licence and you sail the boat). Skipper to rent is 1500B per day. Positive is that you can market the boat for a daytrip and sell the trip. Your cost is the crew 900+1500B, benzin + whatever you include. So it is a great combination in these Covid times if you have a private interest to go sailing on a catamaran but also think to the future about bookings... atleast domestic bookings that has been 10-30% during 2020.

Boat layout:

Our 82 foot sailing catamaran is equipped with two deluxe cabins on the main deck, offering panoramic views, and seven standard double/twin cabins below deck. There is an on-board kitchenette, interior and exterior common areas for dining and relaxing, and plenty of outside deck space, including mats which can be used for sleeping under the stars.

This sailing adventure is staffed by a qualified skipper, a local cook/first mate and a G Adventures CEO. Your on-board team knows the Thai Islands extremely well and are passionate about sharing their hidden secrets with their "crew”. Our Cook is also very welcoming and more than happy to give informal Thai cooking classes while your delicious meals are being prepared in the ship's galley.

In June 2008 we met Ray the first time.   He is a wonderful guy and a real old school gentleman.

It means a lot to him to built solid boats and realize the wishes and needs of his customers. He never got tired answering to our many detailed questions. He always tried to think through our ideas, answered them with impressive expert knowledge and often he came with ideas that would fit our needs better then our ideas.

Hi Ray, Now about the boat, I am very pleased with it. Weather was poor the whole time I was home but still spent 5-6 days out on it, it certainly handles well, the winds were blowing up a really good chop and the cat wasn't phased at all, in a 1-1.5m wind assisted chop was still able to cruise at 17-20 knots directly into it with no loss of comfort, so was really happy with the way it handles.
