We used a Groupon for a 90 minute rental of the Paradise F13 Mini Powerboat ($69). Normally it's $69 for just 60 minutes. It was really a lot of fun. We got a map and was free to go anywhere in the inner harbour and through the Toronto islands. 1.5 hours seems like much but it's not because once you enter Toronto islands, it's a "no wake" zone. Here you have to slow down the speed of the boat to a walking pace. Overall this was a lot of fun. It's good for a date or hanging out with a friend as it fits two adults. It gives you an excellent view of the Toronto skyline. Great for photographers. TIPS: Call in ahead of time to make reservations. $500 damage deposit. Come 15 minutes before your time to go through safety video and additional instructions/rules, signing agreement forms, and grabbing your life jackets. It's important to not be late as it may cut through your time!

Got a Groupon to rent the power boat for 1.5 hours. $75 for a 2 person boat and $95 for a 5 person boat. I would definitely recommend the 5 person boat even if you are only 2 people. The reason is the boat is much more spacious, and it will allow for better pictures!!! The staff are friendly and informative. The boat ride on the lake is so awesome! You get to ride pass center island and see a point of view you never seen before. There's a speed limit on the inner harbour. And a no wake zone around the island, so you can't go very fast. But other areas on the lake you can go faster but there's still a limit on the boat. Go try it! It's fun and memorable.

We got the mini powerboat Groupon and had a delightful date on the water. The staff were polite, knowledgeable, and accommodating. Our original reservation was for 5:30, but I got stuck at work. The staff pushed back our reservation til 7:00 without a problem. They made sure we had all the safety instructions and that we still got our full 90 minutes on the water. A very pleasant customer service experience. The boat itself was a clattering old thing, but it worked fine. We couldn't go very fast, but that was probably for the best as my partner had never driven a boat before. It was a beautiful summer week night, and the lake was full of sailboats, tall ships, kayaks, canoes, paddle-boarders and even planes overhead. It felt like being in a busy city park like Christie Pits or Trinity Bellwoods, but so much more beautiful. We brought burritos and soda with us and had a little water picnic in a hidden nook by the Island, and then we watched the sun go down behind the city skyline. One of the best dates I've ever been on and a thoroughly relaxing experience. I plan to go back and get a bigger boat to cruise around with some girlfriends.

If you're looking for staff that is rude and does the bare minimum and no more you found the right place. Disregarded our concerns in a condescending and patronizing manner. Ruined what might have been a good experience. Do not recommend.

I've rented their small speedboats quite a few times in the past and once this year. The website mentions that "Our fleet is in great shape...". Well I haven't come across that fleet yet. I'm not sure why I keep coming back here, if it wasn't for my little nephew, I wouldn't. The boats are crap and not well maintained. Slow speed I can understand but I have yet to sit in one of their F13 motor boats that didn't want to, or that didn't die in the middle of the lake. Last time I rented for an hour, they had to come and get me because they didn't put enough gas. Not bad if everything is working fine but take your cell phone with you in case you get stuck in the middle of the lake! Positive: If you don't have one, you don't require a boating license.

Photo of Sam C.

No issues at all, got the Groupon for the mini powerboat for 90 minutes. All the staff we dealt with were very pleasant, polite, and talkative. We booked in advance, they accepted our international drivers' licenses and allowed us to pay the damage deposit with credit, debit, or cash, which is appreciated as we don't like credit cards. We then filled in a short declaration for our temporary boating licenses and watched a short video, then got our life jackets, went to the boat and off we went. The boats are OK, not amazing, but not bad. The harbour is limited to 6mph anyway and the islands are a no wake zone. We didn't have any problems with it, it worked fine and they're surprisingly comfy. All in all, a fun trip out, I'd recommend.

Photo of Robin D.

I took their basic dinghy course. It is well priced. And you learn how to sail. Its actually really fun when you get the hang of it and there is wind. They have new catamarans, we sailed and their picos. Get 10% off their courses with the WE card!!

Photo of Lizzie H.

I bought the groupon for this F13 powerboat experience. I have to say it's really FUN and I highly recommend it as a dating plan. You won't regret it! There are more pictures and info on my blog: http://torontoparadise.blogspot.ca/2012/09/f13-powerboat-harhourtfront-center.html

Photo of Tave G.

My girlfriend and I had a great time renting the small powerboat and the price was very affordable. The people working here are very accommodating and friendly. We look forward to coming back again.

Photo of G P.

I agree with the previous post. The mini speedboat F13 are not well maintained. The steering slanted to the left and we had to hold it this way to go straight. For a taste of maneuvering on lake Ontario at about 8km/h without high expectations it's worth a try - I guess. Be sure to choose a time where there aren't too many boats out the island will be less congested. It would help if the registration staff was more friendly. To be fair, a few of them were helpful when checking in. When leaving we got an earful from the "green girl" who screamed and scolded us for being late when we came back at the time we were told by the other staff - so NOT our fault. Making a mediocre experience end on a very negative note.

Power Boating

powerboating toronto

SOMETIMES, THE ROAD NOT TAKEN ISN'T A ROAD.

Boats bring family and friends together, or they can take you away from the entire world. A power boat lets you travel to some spectacular destinations , but the real joy is in the journey. Out on the water, a whole new world of experiences presents themselves to you and your crew. The look of exhilaration on a child’s face as they dive into the lake. The fiery sweep of a painted sky at sunset over a pristine, private cove. The thrill of riding out massive swells in open water of the great lakes or surfing the wake behind you. This is the magic that awaits you on the lakes, rivers and shores of Ontario.

Power boats range from personal watercraft, to large cruising vessels, ski boats, pontoon boats and house boats! Determining what boat is right for you and your family depends on where you live and the activities you plan to enjoy.

You may want to watch the the videos on this page for some inspiration, or visit  Discover Boating   to explore the different boats available. Getting started is easy – you can  rent  for a day or an afternoon and once you have the required training, you can charter and go further.

Learn passage making, piloting and night operation”

This course is for experienced powerboaters seeking an overnight cruising and live aboard experience, and an Inshore Powerboat Cruising Certification.

The course will focus on the skills, knowledge and equipment needed to safely operate a cruising powerboat on a multiday, near coastal passage by day and night in unfamiliar waters.  Course topics include boat preparation, boat handling, close quarter maneuvers, navigation, provisioning, cruise planning and float plans, docking, anchoring, windlass use, picking up a mooring and crew overboard.

Your class begins with an introduction to vessel systems and equipment aboard prior to a short evening shake-down cruise.  Over the next two days you will gain valuable experience in planning voyages, explore various anchoring, mooring and docking techniques, and dealing with situations arising underway.  The course will revolve around destinations on either side of the San Pedro Channel such as LA/Long Beach Harbor, Dana Point, Newport Beach, Santa Catalina Island and Huntington Harbor.

A passing grade on both the written and practical test is required for certification.  Tests will be administered underway.  Course materials and pre-course homework will be available ahead of time to allow you ample time to prepare for your class.

Your course fee includes fuel, most study materials and certification.  A basic provisioning budget will be provided.  Navigation tools and charts, transportation, hotel and meals ashore are not included.

  • Ability to swim 50 yards
  • US Powerboating Basic Powerboat Cruising Certification
  • Three or more days underway on a 30’ or longer powerboat.
  • Coastal Navigation 1  strongly recommended for all students
  • Min 2- Max 4 students
