The Topaz catamaran range has been designed by multi hull racing legends Yves Loday and Rob White.

The hulls are constructed using the TRILAM roto-moulding technique used on the Topaz range of sailboats and are very robust and resilient. The hulls incorporate skegs rather than dagger boards so beaching the CAT is safe and simple and the lightweight TRILAM Metalicene hulls are easy to handle ashore and require virtually no maintenance.

The TOPAZ 16C/ CX is an accessible but high performance cat designed for a crew of two. The Topaz 16C has a twin trapeze and boasts a powerful 14.25m2 sail area courtesy of a large Dacron main and jib. The 16CX upgrade includes an impressive 11.18m2 gennaker.

The TOPAZ 16S ‘school’ rig option offers a single trapeze with a smaller and more easily controlled Dacron main and jib.

The 16 also features a sealed mast and a safe and simple lifting rudder sytem as standard.

The Topaz cats are all roto-moulded in tri-laminated Metalicene™ polyethylene producing the stiffest, lightest and most dynamic hulls available. The hulls are also extremely robust and low maintenance making them ideal for even the toughest sailing environments.

After an exhaustive study and extensive testing, this new design of Olympic catamaran champions Yves Loday and Robert White represents an authentic revolution in the sector. The Cat 16 is extremely versatile. The boat is fast, but can be handled by sailors with little experience. It is very stable and well compensated. The assembly of the boat is quick and easy. Its exclusive design of the floats allows you to get in contact with the waves very gently, even if they are large. With strong wind, the mainsail can be reefed and the jib can be rolled up in a matter of seconds. The controls and reenviations of the mainsail and jib have been designed to be used by light crews in hard wind conditions. The rudder system has been tested in all conditions, being very soft to the touch and obedient in response. In addition to all these navigation details, its construction by Topper’s unique polyethylene trilam system makes it virtually indestructible, which guarantees a long life for schools. The Cat 16 is presented in two versions. We have the Cat 16 C, with greater and jib in dacron and a trapeze, and the Cat 16 CX, with more sail area, mainsail and jib in dacron or mylar, genakker and double trapeze.

The TOPAZ 16C/ CX is an accessible but high performance cat designed for a crew of two. The Topaz 16C has a twin trapeze and boasts a powerful 14.25m2 sail area courtesy of a large Dacron main and jib. The 16CX upgrade includes an impressive 11.18m2 gennaker.

The TOPAZ 16S ‘school’ rig option offers a single trapeze with a smaller and more easily controlled Dacron main and jib.

The 16 also features a sealed mast and a safe and simple lifting rudder sytem as standard.

The Topaz cats are all roto-moulded in tri-laminated Metalicene™ polyethylene producing the stiffest, lightest and most dynamic hulls available. The hulls are also extremely robust and low maintenance making them ideal for even the toughest sailing environments.

Breathtaking speed, amazing control and stability

Following an exhaustive research and testing programme, the NEW roto-moulded CATAMARAN from Topper International launches in 2007. The Topaz 16 CAT is designed by Yves Loday and Rob White. Loday and White is an International CAT Team of the very highest calibre, so it is no surprise that they have produced such a stunning new CAT.

The 16 CAT provides exhilarating performance. As you’d expect the 16 CAT is unashamedly fast. Yet she can easily be handled by inexperienced crew. The responsiveness resembles that of an Olympic racing machine. Yet the Topaz 16 CAT is exceptionally stable and forgiving.

The 16 CAT can handle any conditions. Tested in a demanding holiday company environment by Sunsail, the Topaz 16 CAT just keeps coming back for more punishment. The hulls are constructed using the now legendary TRILAM roto-moulding technique used on the incredibly successful Topaz range of sailboats so the 16 CAT is incredibly robust and resilient.

The 16 CAT’s unique hull shape makes light work of big waves even putting many larger Cats in the shade. The hulls incorporate skegs rather than daggerboards so beaching the CAT is safe and simple. And the lightweight TRILAM Metalicene hulls are easy to handle ashore and require virtually no maintenance.

The rig has been kept relatively simple, so the Topaz 16 CAT can be quickly and easily rigged and de-rigged. In high winds, mainsail reefing is an option and the jib can be furled in seconds.

All fittings on the 16 CAT provide supreme efficiency and outstanding durability. The controls, from raising the mainsail and jib to handling the mainsheet loads, are geared so that even young or lighter crew can handle them comfortably in up to a force 4-5. The rudder system is shared with many of the top end racing cats so it has been tried and tested to extreme levels.

All in all, owning the 16 CAT catamaran is plain sailing for an extremely wide range of ages and abilities – and what incredible sailing it is!
