The Finish owner, Pekka Koskenkyla sold part of the company to new investor Wilhelm Schauman Oy which enabled the company's survival and the next stage in the development which ensured the Swan became one of the best yachts in the world.  A group of investors came on board in late 1990's and control the major stake in the shipyard ever since.  The original US designers Sparkman & Stephens were initially replaced by Ron Holand of New Zealand in mid 1970's with the services of the Argentianian German Frers being secured in the 1980's. To date, more than 2000 Swan hulls have been built and are currently cruising the world’s oceans, all being recognised as one of the best sailing yachts in the world. In terms of SWAN 90, she is a pleasure to handle under sail or manoeuvre in all sea and wind conditions. Accommodation: Luxury Sailing Yacht SWAN 90 can accommodate up to 6 guests in 3 luxuriously appointed cabins. The guests will have a total of 1 double cabin and 2 twin cabins at their disposal. All cabins are en-suite and with their own individual air con and BOSE Stereo entertainment systems connected to LCD TV in each cabin. Sailing Yacht SWAN 90 charter prices: SWAN 90 super yacht charter prices start at 38,000 Euros in low season, while high season prices are as high as 46.000 Eur plus APA expenses. In some locations VAT can be charged on top and prices can be higher on special days such as NEW YEAR or during special events such as Antigua Sailing week.   Special offers, negotiated deals and last minute discounts are available on request. Luxury classic charter yacht SWAN 90 is fully air conditioned throughout. This is a non-smoking vessel. Luxury sailing yacht SWAN 90  (27.71 / 90.91’) was launched by Nautor Swan of Finland back in 2002.  Always kept in excellent condition, she accommodates up to 6 yacht charter guests sleeping in 1 Master, 2 twin cabins, each with an additional Pullman. All cabins are en-suite and feature their own audio and visual entertainment systems. There are always at least 6 super yacht crew members on board including the captain. This charter yacht mainly cruises at speeds of around 10kn and is normally offered for luxury crewed yacht charters within the East Mediterranean, between Athens and Mykonos or Mykonos and Santorini throughout the year. Her crew are happy to offer ONE WAY or TANDEM charters between other destinations too, including Cyprus or Crete and Samos. In the winter she can also cruise in the East Caribbean on request.   Thanks to her YANMAR super yacht engine totalling 300hp, and an impressive sail area, during the right sea and wind conditions, she can reach maximum speeds of around 15kn. Her best features are fabulous sailing performance, SWAN prestige, lovely yachting theme interior, and great crew with lovely guest to crew ratio.

Private charter yacht SWAN 90 can accommodate up to 6 guests in 3 cabins. Cabin Configuration: - Master cabin with queen size bed - 2 x Twin cabins There is also individual controlled air conditioning, iPhone dock and en-suite bathroom, SWAN 90 is fully air conditioned throughout. Her super yacht crew of up to 4, including the captain, have separate crew quarters with heads and showers and may share companion way with clients.

Swan 90-001

SPIRIT is a Bermudian cutter-rigged sloop, and the only Swan 90 with a deckhouse ever constructed. Developed from the successful Swan 86 this is a unique opportunity to purchase such a classic yacht.

She went through a comprehensive refit and upgrade program during 2014 at Yachting Developments Ltd in New Zealand. The key concepts of the refit were to modernize the vessel and provide contemporary living space, to renew equipment and improve reliability and sail handling, all whilst retaining her true heritage. The aft deck and cockpit area were removed to add a new cockpit seating arrangement under a semi-fixed Bimini and the addition of new pedestals and twin wheels (in place of the original single wheel). A new guest cabin was added in the forward area. Skillful use of composite enabled an overall weight reduction of five tonnes, resulting in extra boat speed and manoeuvrability when underway. Due to these major upgrades, she can easily be run with a captain and one crew member.

She has been in private use only since 2017 and has had the same, highly experienced skipper during this time.

The captain and the owners have gradually improved Spirit technically, introducing new battery systems, load management software, backup hydraulics solutions for essential systems. The main sails have been replaced with high performance and robust North 3Di. The engine has been completely dismantled and rejuvenated.

Deck & Sail Plan Produced at the Nautor’s Swan moulding shop in Kallby the hull is a female moulded carbon-fiber laminate and unidirectional carbon reinforcements in selected areas. It has a monolithic structure up to the waterline and carbonfiber sandwich structure for the topsides, with excellent strength and fatigue properties due to a high proportion of unidirectional fibre in the laminate stack. General Arrangment

Accommodations.

Sleeps up to 11 in 4 separate sleeping cabins. 2 in the master cabin and 3 in each of the three guest cabins. Crew cabin forward sleeps up to 4. Each cabin has it's own head for a total of 5 heads. Interior wood is teak that has been white stained and finished with Osmo wax. Overheads are vinyl. Floor boards are foam cored with teak and koto wood upper surface. Bulkheads are covered with a noise barrier and separate skin panels. The headroom height has been increased throughout the yacht where possible.

Fo'c'sle

Accessed from deck level. Folding work bench with a vice.

Accessed via the galley on the port side. Crew head area forward. "L" settee to port with table. Folding pullman bunk above settee. Bunk to starboard with folding pullman bunk above. All berths fitted with lee cloths. Drawers under the lower berths. Hanging locker forward on the starboard side. Washer and dryer on the port side aft.

Located aft of the crew cabin on the port side with access to the crew cabin forward and the saloon aft. 2 integral sinks with erator and dishwasher are located inboard, The Miele 4 burner stove with electric oven, microwave oven, fridge and freezer are located outboard. The ship's main electrical panel is located aft and outboard. Corian counter tops. Ample stowage space in drawers below the counter tops and lockers above. Additional storage under the floor boards. 2 front loading fridges upgraded to air cooled. 2 front loading freezers. 4 x burner induction stove with electric oven and exhaust hood above. 

Forward midship guest cabin

Located opposite the galley on the starboard side. Accessed from the saloon. Ensuite head with separate stall shower. Double berth with drawers under. Folding pullman berth above. Hanging locker forward.

Located aft of the galley and forward midships guest cabin and up 2 steps. "U" shaped settee to port with some stowage under surrounding a dining table. 3 independent chairs inboard. "L" settee to starboard with some stowage under surrounding a coffee table with extension insert leaves. Both tables may be electrically height adjusted as well as inboard and outboard adjusted. Lockers outboard and forward both sides. Lockers aft to port. Glass locker storage aft. Entertainment equipment locker forward. 

Navigation Station

Located in the aft starboard corner of the saloon. Outboard facing. Separate chair may be relocated to dining table.

Aft Midship guest cabins

Located aft of the saloon and down 3 steps. 1 to port and 1 to starboard, mirror imaged. Each with ensuite head and stall shower. 2 single berths in each cabin with filler to make a double. Folding pullman berth inboard in each cabin. Hanging locker in each cabin. Clothes bars in each shower to hang wet foul weather gear.

Don Macpherson is the Santa Monica-based owner of Swan 90 S sailing yacht Freya . Completed as the 2,000 th Swan vessel in 2012, superyacht Freya boasts an elegant blue-grey hue, a sleek and modern design, as well as top of the range technology on board.

Don Macpherson developed a passion for sailing in his twenties while cruising with his father, a navigator in the US Navy, on the family Swan 57. “My father really wanted me to experience the challenge and adventure of proper navigation, and we went all over the place with that boat. We did many trips along the East coast of the United States , through the Caribbean , down through the Panama Canal and up to LA, from LA to Vancouver , and from LA down to Mexico multiple times,” recounts Don. “My experience was all about cruising, and I hadn’t really done any racing. We sailed in many different weather conditions, and we always felt extremely safe on our Swan, it is such a fast and well-built luxury cruising yacht. Since my mid-thirties, owning a Swan has always been my ultimate dream. I wanted to re-live the experiences that I had with my father – spending quality time as a family on a beautiful boat,” added Don.

“When I had kids, I took a break from sailing, but when they got a little older and they were ready to enjoy sailing I started playing again with the idea of buying a yacht. Swan was of course the brand of choice.” Then in 1998 Leonardo Ferragamo and a group of investors purchased Nautor’s Swan, and Macpherson wanted to take some time to observe closely and watch the outcome of this marriage between Finnish and Italian cultures: “There is quite a big social difference between the Finns and the Italians – Finns are traditionally considered very focused, with a keen eye on engineering, while Italians have a lot of style and flair,” commented Don. It was a great success. “I think it’s been a really fantastic match. In the first place because Mr Ferragamo is an avid sailor, with a passion that stems from his core, and he brings a lot of style and fashion to these boats.” No wonder Don chose the name Freya for its Swan: “These yachts are simply gorgeous, so well designed and expertly built, they are a beauty to sail, strong, fast and reliable.” A match made in heaven – Freya, the goddess of love, once again rules.

Buying a Swan is a once-in-a-lifetime experience. You are not buying off a shelf or from a catalogue. “My dream came true a couple of years ago, when we launched Freya. But the story started well before that. From the moment the decision was made, it took almost two years to build the dream. Every three months I travelled to the yard in Finland,” recalls Don. “It was an amazing learning experience, going through many milestones, and I enjoyed it enormously. It was a pretty intense period of time, I got to meet all the designers, the engineers, the team, and had to make a lot of decisions. Then it all comes together and it is almost like magic – the systems, the carpentry, all the details, it was great fun.”

During this two year process, Mr Macpherson also got to know Mr Ferragamo quite well and came to appreciate even more the value of the Nautor’s Swan as a brand: “It is not only about boats. It is about the bigger picture, the long term strategy, the family of owners. Mr Ferragamo is a family man, he loves sailing and he is fully dedicated to the passion of Swan. I think it’s fantastic to have an owner [of the company] who not only loves sailing but also the brand – there is a great future ahead for Swan.”

The allure of the Nautor’s Swan brand lies also in the vibrant community of Swan owners all over the world. A group of people who have a lot in common, who create and foster new friendships at the many ClubSwan regattas, cruising rendez-vous and social events exclusively created for Swan owners. Perhaps this is also what spurred Don to attend the first big regatta of his life, the inaugural edition of the Rolex Swan Cup Caribbean hosted by the Yacht Club Costa Smeralda in Virgin Gorda , BVI , in 2013. “I had never really raced much, especially on big boats, and when we built Freya I hired a crew. My captain suggested I give racing a try, and so I did. I was immediately hooked,” said Don. “When you race, the whole dynamic is different than cruising – more people, a common purpose, camaraderie, competition – there’s always some way to make the boat go faster and to improve yourself.”

After the Rolex Cup Caribbean, Freya competed in more events both in the Caribbean and in the Mediterranean – including the Loro Piana Caribbean Superyacht Regatta and Rendezvous , the Palma Superyacht Cup and the Maxi Rolex Cup ; luxury yacht Freya crossed the Atlantic again to participate in the Antigua Superyacht Challenge and the Loro Piana Caribbean Superyacht Regatta. “The results of these regattas tell a successful story,” recounts Don, “as Freya steadily moved up in the ranks from back of the fleet to 4th, 3rd, 2nd and 1st. Then we drifted back to the Mediterranean for the Rolex Swan Cup in Porto Cervo and Les Voles de Saint Tropez .”

“It’s been a lot of fun, sometimes it’s overwhelming, but very gratifying. I love to race with my family on board, my kids and their friends,” commented Macpherson. “I remember thinking that from a distance racing looked like a lot of yelling, but not on this boat. We make very few mistakes and there is no shouting. We are competitive but in a very gentlemanlike fashion.” With more than 25 people on board, it can surely be challenging to keep calm and focused, and it helps to have some seasoned professionals on board. America’s Cup veteran Mike Toppa is one of the friendly, laid-back but veteran professionals, who is often seen sailing with Don.

At last September’s Rolex Swan Cup Freya yacht won the windy, 51-mile coastal race, a feather in the cap for any sailor, let alone a relative newcomer to the racing scene. Safety was a priority: “We had a lot of people on board who had never sailed before, so it was important to bear that in mind,” said Toppa, who agrees with Don that it often pays to be conservative with decisions when racing, and “wait for other people to make mistakes,” commented Toppa.

The fun will continue and the love and passion heralded by luxury yacht Freya carries on: “Over these years I’ve met many great people with whom I have a lot in common. It is fantastic and an honour to be part of the Swan family and share the spirit of Swan.”
