Hidden Portside ’s new superyacht is further proof that sustainability and luxury boating are not mutually exclusive.

The Barcelona-based design studio has penned an innovative 164-footer known as Naboo that pairs eco-friendly furnishings and zero-emissions propulsion with a design-savvy aesthetic.

The sleek, silver vessel sports a hull that was forged from recycled aluminum and is replete with sinuous circular lines. The studio says this “ring concept” helps to create a different sense of movement onboard rather than a typical linear flow.

As its name suggests, the superyacht was actually partially inspired by Star Wars . Naboo is a fictional planet in the beloved sci-fi franchise’s universe and is characterized by its verdant terrain. As such, the vessel’s futuristic interior boasts an abundance of greenery.

At the heart of Naboo is a sprawling inner patio that spans more than 1,000 square feet. Beyond its plush lounge and bar, this space houses an epic vertical garden that soars upward to connect all three decks. It also features folding platforms on both sides for easy access to the ocean.

The zen beach club sits one level above on the main deck and comes complete with a Jacuzzi and bar. Elsewhere on this deck, there is an open kitchen or “chef’s house” where seafarers score a prime view of meticulous meal prep, as well as four cabins that can accommodate eight guests.

The bridge deck, meanwhile, is home to the lavish master cabin that offers a 355-foot private terrace and another Jacuzzi. The captain’s cabin is also located on this deck right by the helm.

As for the lower deck, it’s fitted with a 26-foot garage and space to store a full arsenal of toys and tenders, along with a second galley where the eight crew can work away.

Despite Naboo’s generous proportions, she has next to no carbon footprint. The vessel is equipped with an electric propulsion system and solar panels on the roof in lieu of a sundeck. This allows her to run on clean energy and sail the seas sans emissions. To avoid excessive use of A/C, the studio has integrated a range of smart PCMs (Phase Change Materials) that work to absorb heat. The superstructure is also finished in ultra-reflective metallic paint that repels UV rays and keeps the inside air cool.

“Naboo represents another lifestyle, the ‘smart luxury,’ in which sustainability is a mindset, preserving the beauty and elegance of the past, but relying on the innovation of the future,” the studio said in a statement.

Smart, indeed.

Inspired By Star Wars, Naboo Is Taking The Electric Watercraft Concept To The Next Level

Designed by Barcelona-based studio  Hidden Portside , Naboo is an electric superyacht that's inspired by Star Wars. In the Star Wars universe, Naboo is most notably known as the home planet of Padme Amidala and Palpatine - a green and unspoiled oasis. The superyacht's greenery is its sustainable characteristics. 

"Naboo represents another lifestyle, in which sustainability is a mindset, preserving the beauty and elegance of the past while relying on the innovation of the future," Hidden Portside says in a statement to  Boat International .

The company published the concept in early 2020, and it went on to win several industry accolades, including second place in the Rossinavi Design Challenge. This year, the studio announced that the project was 'closer to becoming a reality' thanks to a partnership with Italian shipyard Rossinavi.

Naboo combines luxury with sustainability in beautiful harmony. For starters, Naboo is not only powered by electric propulsion but also boosts solar panels. The 164-foot-long superyacht has circular lines that enhance the essence of the yacht. With a 'ring concept' and open living spaces, the vessel has a non-linear flow that contrasts with the traditional designs. According to the studio, this central garden creates an atmosphere where the sea, sky, and guests thrive together. 

At the first level, in the centre of the yacht, there sits a large inner patio that spans more than 1,000 square feet (92 square meters), featuring a lush green vertical garden that connects all three decks. The patio has folding platforms on the sides that offer easy access to the water. The absence of corridors in most places makes the ship more spacious while being one with nature. 

The Hidden Portside design studio's founders state, 'Not only did we seek innovation on style and aesthetics, but also, and above all, in the way the boat is lived, in the way the boat is used, and in the experience, we want to offer,' in a press release statement.

The middle deck features a well-equipped open kitchen where guests can watch their meals being prepared. At the same time, a nature-intertwined beach club with a luxurious jacuzzi and bar will accommodate relaxation and recreation. The superyachts house four cabins that can accommodate eight guests, with a crew of eight housed in quarters below deck.

The owner's cabin has a private terrace, including a jacuzzi and plenty of lounge space, and is located aft on the bridge deck. The garage can hold a custom tender made to match the mothership and a variety of water toys. The beach club is situated towards the centre of the ship, which is another first, and it becomes usable once fold-down platforms are lowered to the sea and the entire space opens up. It also houses a secondary jacuzzi and a bar.

Naboo disrupts space is by overthrowing expectations by enclosing areas like the mid-ship lounge and beach club and exposed spaces like the rear deck. The upper deck that resembles a bridge is where the helm and the captain's cabin are located. 

Despite its size and volume, Naboo runs solely on clean energy and sailing the seas without damaging the environment. In addition, the superyacht uses an electric propulsion system and solar panels for power. At the same time, the sleek yacht also has a hull made of recycled materials such as aluminium and synthetic teak – a testament to modern yachting. The stylish yacht is modified to avoid excessive use of air conditioning in what is possibly an environmentalist dream-like using intelligent materials such as PCM (Phase Change Materials) and metallic and ultra-reflective paint that can emit or absorb heat needed.

For the time being, Naboo is just a concept, but with a flagship shipyard like Rossinavi in the equation, we can expect the Star Wars-inspired superyacht to set sail soon.

Sustainability-focused 50m superyacht concept Naboo revealed

A sustainability-focused 50 metre superyacht concept named Naboo has been revealed.

Penned by design studio Hidden Portside, Naboo features an electric propulsion system, solar panels and a hull constructed from recycled aluminium alongside synthetic teak decking.

“Naboo represents another lifestyle, in which sustainability is a mindset, preserving the beauty and elegance of the past while relying on the innovation of the future,” said the studio.

Standout design features include a 95sqm inner patio connected through a vertical garden and a 65sqm beach club complete with Jacuzzi and bar. The area has folding platforms down to the sea on both sides.

The main deck features an open layout with a galley or “chef’s house”. This leads down to a second galley on the lower deck, alongside an eight-metre tender garage with additional space for water toys.

The concept accommodates ten guests in four guest cabins on the main deck and the master cabin on the bridge deck, which features a 33sqm private terrace with a second Jacuzzi. A crew of eight will operate Naboo, with the captain’s quarters located on the bridge deck near the helm.

“This is the ‘starter pack’ for Naboo,” said the studio. “We are looking to offer bigger options in order to accommodate the most demanding clients.”

Notes : The ship’s narrow profile and sheltered sublight engines grants it considerable sensor stealth abilities, adding +1D to sensors difficulties to detect it.

Capsule : The Naboo Yacht was the personal craft and royal starship of Padmé Amidala. It was a customized H-type Nubian yacht and was employed as a getaway vessel, being the smallest non-fighter craft in the Theed Hangars, though much faster than most civilian ships. It featured a powerful shield system, an array of electronic countermeasures, a slim, narrow profile and sheltered engines giving a small sensor signature for evading pursuits and an escape pod. The vessel was unarmed in accordance with the peaceful culture of Naboo. The yacht only required a small crew and Padmé could pilot the ship on her own from the cockpit in the central area of the yacht’s upper section. Below the cockpit were maintenance consoles, the class 0.9 Nubian 150 hyperdrive core and stores to contain supplies and astromech droids. The lower and upper levels were connected by a turbolift platform, situated before the lounge and crew bunks on the upper level. At the front section of the upper level was Padmé’s bedroom which could serve as a portable throne room.

Naboo is a Futuristic yet Environmentally Friendly Superyacht 

The future lies in sustainable luxury and the use of materials with a distinct environmental consciousness. Naboo , the new superyacht from a design studio, Hidden Portside , is a pure electric zero-emissions yacht along with a myriad of sustainable materials used for its development plus design.  

Even the design is quite radical and embracing open spaces. This 50-meter superyacht concept has a unique touch with its own vertical three-story garden plus a 95sqm inner patio which connects it to the beach club which incidentally is complete with its own Jacuzzi and bar. The main deck is spacious enough for ten passengers to lounge about in utter comfort with four cabins. The bridge deck however features a master cabin while equipped with a second Jacuzzi and a private terrace.  

The luxury vessel is replete with sleek surfacing and is built with sustainability in mind while having a hull made from recycled aluminum. Further on there is a solar panel system on the roof (the reason why there is no sundeck) and the materials used for its fabrication include synthetic teak.  

Interestingly, the layout intends to keep the inside temperatures remain as stable as possible to avoid excessive use of AC. In order to achieve that, smart materials as PCM (Phase Change Materials) are used in the interior walls. These materials can change their phase emitting or absorbing air heat depending on the atmosphere temperature. Controlling inside temperature it’s also possible by using finishes as ultra-reflective metallic painting in the superstructure in order to reflect as much UV light as possible to keep the inside air cool.  

There is also space in the lower deck for a 26-foot garage along with all the toys which any superyacht owner would like to keep.  Overall, this superyacht stays true to its name which is inspired by the Naboo planet in the Star Wars with its green interiors and design philosophy.

Details of the cockpit and crew deck. In a surprising placement, the senatorial decoy (Corde) must have stood at the back of the cockpit (facing aft into the crew lounge) when she was formally told of the ship's approach to Coruscant. Her visit may be a subtle giveaway that she was a disguised guard, since discretion and commonsense would keep civilian passengers (especially a prestige passenger) out of functional crewed areas.

The underwater terrain encountered by Qui-Gon Jinn's bongo consisted of a network of vertical slabs, steep crevices, sandy horizontal shelves (catching material eroded from above) and mysterious vertical pillars. The pillars may be biological, in which case they indicate the presence of a food/energy source other than direct sunshine; or they may be growing mineral deposits of some kind.

The sando monster is a deep-dwelling beast. Its possession of eyes and its quadrupedal shape indicate that its recent evolutionary ancestors were land-dwelling.

The Jedi bongo emerges from the underwater realm in a river close to the Theed cliff. They initially face upstream, towards the centre of the city.

Lord Maul makes his entry to the hangar. Behind him are bollards similar to those on the street-side exterior of the hangar building. He leads the Jedi into the hangar and then out the side door into the generator complex.

One of the halls in Queen Amidala's battle towards the Trade Federation leaders. Note the light behind the doors closing at the far end of the passage: its presence demonstrates that this hall is not the same as the one leading directly off the hangar, although the texture and form are similar.

The part of the Palace where Amidala and troops made their vertical ascent was only as thin as the hallway, with windows on both sides. This is not merely a case of a big mirror being on one side of the hall, because that would have shown reflections of the people as well as windows. If it's in the main part of the palace then one set of windows must be holographic simulations.

Queen Amidala and some of her retainers bypassed the main concentration of pursuing battle droids by scaling the palace exterior and reentering it through this higher-level hall. The statue appears to be the centre of a Y-fork junction.

Naboo Royal Cruiser

A custom-built J-type diplomatic barge, this chromed Naboo royal cruiser carried no armament, relying on a fighter escort for protection during space travel. Shortly before the Clone Wars, Senator Padmé Amidala’s party traveled to Coruscant aboard her royal cruiser to vote on the creation of a Republic military. The cruiser exploded on the landing pad, seemingly killing Amidala – but she had switched places with her handmaiden Cordé and so survived the assassination attempt.

Background: The H-type Nubian yacht, also known as the Naboo yacht, was a small yacht used by the Naboo. While not heavily armed, they were equipped with a strong deflector shield. Senator Padmé Amidala used several H-types during the Fall of the Republic, which bore silver coating to denote her status as former Queen of Naboo. One was flown from Naboo to Tatooine to help Anakin Skywalker find his mother, and then to Geonosis to rescue Obi-Wan Kenobi; others were used during the Battle of the Kaliida Nebula and her mission to Rodia, though in both cases the yachts were destroyed owing to unfortunate circumstances.
