Golden Odyssey is a custom motor yacht launched in 2015 by Lurssen Yachts in Lemwerder, Germany.

Lürssen has remained a family-run German shipyard since its inception in 1875 and is now in its fourth generation of private ownership. The company was founded by Friedrich Lürssen with a desire to create a leading shipyard in both quality and performance.

Golden Odyssey measures 123.20 metres in length. She has a gross tonnage of 7,600 tonnes.

Golden Odyssey has a steel hull with an aluminium superstructure.

Martin Francis is an accomplished British designer and architect with decades of experience working on some of the most iconic yachts on the water.

Her interior design is by Alberto Pinto.

Golden Odyssey also features naval architecture by Lurssen Yachts.

Lürssen’s Project Tatiana seen as Golden Odyssey

German shipbuilder Lürssen 's  Project Tatiana has blossomed into Golden Odyssey , a 123 metre yacht said to be owned by Prince Khaled of Saudi Arabia.

A video of Golden Odyssey on the quayside at Lemwerder, 10 miles north-west of Bremen, has recently been posted with her name visible to the world. Her two sweeping staircases, first seen in pictures published by Boat International in May, can be seen, complete with teak railings, leading down to the swim platform.

There have been few details available about _Golden Odysse_y as she has been kept under a publicity embargo by Lürssen while in build, but it is thought she has a 20 metre beam, a volume of 7,600 gross tons and an ocean crossing range.

Boat International reported in May that the then Project Tatiana had been spotted on the move as she headed out for sea trials and confirmed her LOA as 123.2 metres.

Golden Odyssey , as we now know her, was launched in mid-March and soon after moved from her shed at Lürssen’s facility in Lemwerder, Germany into a quay for finishing.

Little else is known about Lürssen Yachts' hull No 13689 other than that she is constructed with a steel hull and aluminium superstructure, is said to be designed by Martin Francis , though he has not confirmed this. Her interior is rumoured to be the work of the late Alberto Pinto .

It is the second yacht owned by Prince Khaled to go by the name Golden Odyssey . The first, an 80 metre yacht built by another German yard, Blohm+Voss , is listed for sale for $36.3m. This yacht, built in 1990, has spent a significant amount of time cruising around the world in support of the prince’s Living Oceans Foundation, a non-profit organisation dedicated to ocean research.

Also underway at Lürssen is the new 112 metre Palo Alto superyacht project, sold by Moran Yacht & Ship. The Andrew Winch- designed yacht is being built for an experienced client who sought a family oriented yacht. Project Alto is scheduled for delivery in spring 2018. Another Andrew Winch project sold by Moran and being built at Lürssen is the 74 metre Project Thor , boasting a huge interior volume. She is due to launch in 2016.

Superyacht ‘Golden Odyssey’ is Renamed‘Golden Odyssey II’ Following Refit

The 80m superyacht ‘Golden Odyssey’ has left Blohm & Voss’s Hamburg shipyard following a 5-month refit, and has been renamed ‘Golden Odyssey II,’ and will rename in the global charter fleet. It has been speculated this rename will lead the way for a brand new Blohm & Voss build which will claim the name Golden Odyssey.

Originally delivered by the esteemed German shipyard in 1990, Golden Odyssey II has chartered extensively across the globe alongside 67m sistership M/Y ‘Golden Shadow.’ Her refit has involved the servicing of her engineering and technology, and the fitting of new teak decks and a new spa bath.

Her state-of-the-amenities, including a two-level coral-reef aquarium, steam room and sauna, swimming pool and beauty salon make her the complete charter package. Her glass-bottomed swimming pool offers a truly unique experience, with views into the exotic marine life inhabiting the aquarium. One of the earlier vessels to incorporate eco-friendly technology, she features an impressive exhaust gas release under water, which ensures no exhaust gases are released into the air.

Motor yacht Golden Odyssey II comfortably accommodates up to 14 guests in 7 staterooms, including a master suite, two double staterooms, 6 twin cabins and two single cabins. Her timeless Alberto Pinto interior is classic in style, featuring fine wood cabinetry throughout and a grand piano in her main salon. Her experienced crew of 25 work alongside a Captain of 5 years cater to guest’s every need.

She boasts an impressive top speed of 18 knots, and cruises at 16 knots, with a range of 9100.00nm from her 220,000.00L fuel tanks.

123m Golden Odyssey sold at auction following arrest

Deutsche bank luxembourg arrested the yacht in malta due to outstanding debt in excess of €116 million….

The 123m Lürssen superyacht ‘Golden Odyssey'   has been sold at auction for an estimated €150 million in Malta. Deutsche Bank Luxembourg arrested the superyacht while it was moored in the Med as a way to enforce the mortgage against it for outstanding debt in excess of €116 million.

According to Times of Malta , the owner, Kal Marine Limited (A Bermuda-based company), originally secured a loan from the bank in 2013, and used the superyacht as collateral. After failing to make repayments and choosing to ignore calls, the bank decided to seize the yacht.

The article also highlights that Mr Justice Spiteri Bailey approved the private sale of the superyacht for the sum of €150 million - which was deemed to be the current market value. The yacht has apparently been bought by East Thrive Peace Limited, a company which is incorporated in the British Virgin Islands and will be represented in Malta by lawyer Nicholas Valenzia.

It is believed that this could be one of the highest prices ever fetched for a superyacht sold in a judicial sale ever. The Golden Odyssey is ranked as the world’s 36th-largest superyacht and was launched by German shipbuilders Lürssen in 2015.

In 2016, SuperyachtNews reported that the 123m Golden Odyssey is part of The Golden Fleet which also comprises of its support vessel, 67m M/Y Golden Shadow and 30m M/Y Golden Osprey. This fleet was used as a platform for the Living Oceans Foundation, which was founded by Prince Khaled bin Sultan. In 2012, the Prince was awarded the Perseus Award for his commitment to ocean conservation and scientific research.

In 2018, Captain Mike Hitch, the marine director for the Golden Fleet and Captain of M/Y Golden Odyssey, spoke to SuperyachtNews about the organisation and the role of crew in environmental initiatives.
