With a bold, contemporary hull styling, the 80 Sunreef Power incorporates classic stainless steel portlights, teak sole decks, high bulwarks, and subtle ambience lighting. Her massive garage combined with an aft platform allows this luxury catamaran to take her dinghy, numerous water toys, and jet-ski anywhere she goes. Easily accessed from the saloon, the yacht’s full-beam bow terrace is a vast, soothing retreat with amazing amounts of space for sunning and lounging. The 80 Sunreef Power’s immense flybridge offers enough breadth to house a spa pool, a wet bar and generous seating all around.

One of the most spectacular features on board the 80ft yacht is the master suite which can be set up in the bow section of the main deck. With a double bed facing the bow terrace, a bathroom with a walk-in shower, dressing and desk, the suite is bathed in sun from the skylight glazing. The same space can also be used to install a large lounge with ample seating and access to the foredeck.

The main saloon opens wide onto the aft cockpit to combine the electric power catamaran ’s dining space with the outdoor relaxation areas, where more seating is available along with a wet bar. The fully customizable saloon can also accommodate a large galley, depending on the layout selected and houses an elevated interior navigation station.

The immense volumes in the hulls of the luxury catamaran give plenty of room to tailor every unit’s layout to the most specific requirements. The crew quarters along with the galley and crew mess can be accessed directly from the aft cockpit for more privacy on board. Multiple layout configurations are available to set up luxurious guest cabins for a supreme level of comfort on board.

The first Sunreef 80 launched, the 7X Split, is easily spotted from afar thanks to her graphite-colored hull that is striking in appearance. She sports a spacious 4-cabin layout, including a spectacular master stateroom, occupying most of the starboard hull along with the guest cabin. With a deliberately dim color scheme, the master suite features a massive bed, a desk, a sofa, and a dressing room hidden behind a custom-designed decorative partition. The salon is tremendous, offering stunning views, incredible space rarely ever seen on a yacht of this length, and the finest contemporary decor.

Thanks to Sunreef Yachts’ proprietary solar power system, the Sunreef 80 Eco can generate up to 32kWp. Covering a total area of 164m² solar panels can be integrated with various composite structures of the yacht including the mast, boom, superstructure and hull sides. The luxury catamaran is fitted with a state of the art, ultralight battery bank (30% lighter than the average batteries used in the nautical industry) with a density of less than 6kg / kWh for increased weight-efficiency and performance.

The new Swan 80 has been designed thanks to the renowned naval architect Germán Frers creating the overall concept, naval architect Lucio Micheletti the exterior  and Misa Poggi the interior.

A fresh new look on deck features wood covered cockpit coamings ­— which have been extended further aft for crew comfort — that add a new perspective to the yacht. With its modern, uncluttered look the design speaks of neatness and efficiency.

Below deck the Swan 80 has the space and capacity to offer a wide variety of cabin configurations and open areas to meet all requirements.

The architect

The new Swan 51 offers design and practical solutions that make the yacht comfortable and easy to sail from coastal waters to long offshore passages. The Swan 51 also features a mast which has been moved more to the centre of the yacht, further enhancing balance.

Ultimately, like all Swans, the 51 is a no-compromise sailing yacht, a pure sailor, more a sportscar than a limousine. It is designed to be reactive to steer and responsive to sail adjustments, bringing the sensations of sailing alive.

With options

The Swan 80’s near flush wooden deck serves to highlight the discreet and streamlined coachroof running aft from the mast.

As the whole aft cockpit section of the yacht is flat, it allows any configuration of seating, ondeck storage or other furnishings that might be desired. It is also possible, of course, to remove all deck furniture when in racing mode.

Similarly the open aft deck can be set up for swimming and sunbathing when in cruising configuration, with easy access to the beach area and swimming platform, which in turn are adjacent to the full beam lazarette which can easily accommodate a rigid inflatable boat.

The Swan 80 features twin rudders for directional stability, a tapered hull entrance and powerful aft section, with design allowing optimal balance between performance and stability at different angles of heel.

The hull’s construction of foam cored glass fibre reinforced epoxy with carbon fibre unidirectional reinforcements ensures solidity and durability.

Exterior Designer

Lucio micheletti.

A skilful combination of traditional styling and taut forms, an interplay of materials that creates a lively chiaroscuro with a marked dynamic quality (what the architect Micheletti calls ‘quayside speed’). The cockpit offers the typical three-area division that characterises all Swans. The front area, close to the deckhouse and protected by a sprayhood and a bimini top (a retractable model with rigid structure is optional), is dedicated to guests.

The interior designer

Versatility and flexibility are the order of the day when heading below decks on the Swan 80.

A variety of optional configurations are available for the location of cabins, sitting and dining areas. One possibility sees the spacious owners cabin located forward, with another four guest and VIP cabins all with en suite facilities.

The crew quarters are organised in an area aft, with independent access to the cockpit, engine room and other technical areas to avoid disturbing guests. Another possibility allows for the temporary conversion of a guest cabin for crew use, so increasing crew from 2 to 5.

The already spacious saloon area can be further increased by utilising the space of one guest cabin for an additional TV or dining area — another nod to the maxi philosophy.

Timeless Classic

The yacht is fitted with natural materials such as linen, cotton and leather in shades of white, naturally light colours, natural brown and putty tones for leather. These blend with light durmast wood, giving the yacht a sophisticated feel and bringing warm, sunny countries to mind.

TraditionalNavy

Linens and cottons in navy blue and shaded white blend with various shades of tobacco in fabric and leather. There is also the traditional wood used for sailing, namely natural teak, taking those on board back to the long-established seafaring concept of historical sailing clubs.

Natural fabrics such as linen and cotton are featured in different shades of wine, Cowes red and the fundamental shaded white. There is also “drunken” leather and Canaletto walnut, bringing to mind the Admiral’s Cup and Fastnet Race triumphs of sports sailing.

Spirit of Finland

A typical modern Swan interior featuring an under-stated Nordic approach with use of hand-crafted timbers and seaworthy detailing. Light European oak and walnut floorboards are paired with carefully selected performance fabrics in light natural colours and earthy leather accents for a soft touch. A timeless, light yacht interior from the land of the midnight sun.

Description.

Sunreef Yachts launched an all-electric Sunreef 80 Eco Zeahorse, a fully autonomous craft using revolutionary green tech for fuel-free cruising in total silence and luxury. Designed and built to navigate in complete harmony with the elements.

A first in the industry, this sailing catamaran ’s solar power system features ultralight composite-integrated solar panels within the hull sides, superstructure, and bimini roof. This patented-pending system was engineered and produced by the Polish shipyard to offer the best efficiency in the marine world.

While under sail, the Sunreef 80 Eco recovers energy from the passive motion of the two propellers with its advanced hydro generation system. The energy obtained is used to power both the electric propulsion and house appliances.

Below the main deck, the all-electric yacht ’s battery bank consists of custom-engineered batteries, combining light weight with outstanding efficiency. Additionally, the Sunreef 80 Eco’s air conditioning is the lightest and most efficient in the marine industry.

The Sunreef 80 Eco sailing catamaran can welcome up to twelve guests on board. Her starboard hull houses an opulent and light-filled master suite with a double bed, a pop-up TV, sofa, and vanity desk. The generous ensuite bathroom follows the contemporary style of the master stateroom. The custom layout also includes a large mid-ship cabin in the middle section of the portside hull as well as two identical guest cabins in the bow portion of each hull and the aft cabin.

Yemen’s Iranian-backed Houthis are threatening merchant ships hundreds of miles out in the Indian Ocean after striking a container vessel well beyond the Red Sea last week, maritime officials and experts have warned.

The drone attack on the MSC Orion on the night of April 26 followed a threat by the Houthis in March to extend their attacks to the Indian Ocean, including on commercial vessels sailing between Asia and Europe around the Cape of Good Hope.

Many shipping companies have switched to that longer route to avoid Houthi attacks on the approaches to the Suez Canal in the Red Sea and Gulf of Aden.

The Houthis have launched scores of strikes since November on commercial ships, saying they are acting in support of Gaza’s Palestinians, using a mixture of missiles and drones.

But the Islamist group’s strike on the MSC Orion expands the maritime area at risk from its campaign against western ships to a large and previously unaffected swath of the north-west Indian Ocean.

Jakob Larsen, head of maritime safety and security for Bimco, a large association of shipowners, predicted some shipping companies would reroute vessels further from Yemen to avoid the increased threat.

“It is likely that some ships — especially those with links to Israel, the US or UK — will be routed further away from the threat,” he said.

The MSC Orion, owned by Geneva-based Mediterranean Shipping Company (MSC), operator of the world’s biggest container ship fleet, was hit by a drone between 300 and 400 nautical miles south-east of the Horn of Africa, according to the UK’s Maritime Trade Operations office in Dubai.

While the Houthis claim to have targeted or hit other ships in the Indian Ocean in recent weeks, the MSC Orion attack was the first recognised by one of the international organisations working to safeguard the area’s vital sea lanes against piracy and military threats.

The vessel is sister ship of the MSC Aries, seized by Iran’s Revolutionary Guards on April 13 in the Strait of Hormuz, and was operating the same “Himalaya Express” service between Europe and ports in Sri Lanka and India.

Specialist shipping press reports have suggested MSC was directing vessels to call at the port of Salalah, in Oman, instead of ports inside the Gulf, to avoid sailing past Iran.

Marine Traffic, a vessel-tracking service, showed the MSC Orion was en route to Salalah when it was attacked. MSC did not respond to a request to comment.

Both the MSC Aries and MSC Orion were built as part of an eight-ship order for Zodiac Maritime, which is controlled by the Israeli-born Eyal Ofer. The Aries is still owned by a company linked to Zodiac and operated by MSC, while the Orion’s registered owner is MSC.

UK Maritime Trade Operations said that the MSC Orion and crew were safe and continuing to their next port of call. A bulletin from the Joint Maritime Information Centre, an international organisation sharing information on threats in the area, said debris from an unmanned aerial vehicle — or drone — had been found on the ship, which suffered only minor damage.

The Houthis succeeded in February in sinking the Rubymar, a Lebanese-owned ship they described as British, at the southern end of the Red Sea. An attack in March killed three mariners aboard the True Confidence, a bulk carrier, in the Gulf of Aden.

The group’s strikes decreased in frequency and severity following the withdrawal in early April to Iran of the Behshad , an Iranian-owned ship widely credited with supplying the group with intelligence and targeting information. The Behshad had spent three years in the Red Sea and Gulf of Aden, off Yemen.

As well as the MSC Orion attack, the Houthis also on Friday hit the Andromeda Star, an oil tanker sailing through the Red Sea.

A bulletin following the MSC Orion attack from EOS Risk, a UK-based consultancy, warned customers that Houthi drones had a range of up to 2,000km from the group’s bases in cities such as Hodeida, on Yemen’s Red Sea coast.

The Houthis have said they are targeting ships with links to Israel, the US and the UK, although they have hit a number of vessels where those links were tenuous or related to past owners .

MSC has been the target of several attacks by Iranian-linked groups in recent months — targeting that the JMIC attributed to the company’s links to Israel.

Jon Gahagan, president of Sedna Global, a maritime risk specialist, said it was “highly likely” Iran had supported the attack on the MSC Orion, given the distance from Yemen and the Houthis’ lack of a maritime surveillance capability.
