Also best accessed with a private superyacht is the Île Sainte-Marguerite. Here you will also find the infamous Fort Royal, where the legendary “man in the iron mask” is said to have been imprisoned. Meanwhile, wine enthusiasts head to the old monastery on Ile St-Honorat, which is renowned for its wine cellar far beyond the borders of France.

After, hop on your charter yacht and continue your luxury yacht rental in the direction of the French Riviera’s other famous destinations like Nice , Saint-Tropez and Monaco .

Cannes Yacht Charters on the French Riviera

Below: view a selection of charter yachts in cannes | browse the full list of local yacht charters here | read about yacht charters in france | browse all the france yacht specials.

Witness some of the largest luxury superyacht charter boats jostle for position in the famous bay of Cannes, France. Cannes is certainly one of the more famous private luxury yacht destinations in France, let alone the world.

A Cannes yacht charter vacation brings you into the very heart of the French Riviera and this famous luxury destination has all the features that a glamorous seaside resort town should have. Golden sand beaches fringe the promenades and the harbour is filled with superyachts at its two main marinas. World-class hotels and restaurants further enhance the prestige of this location, which annually hosts the Cannes Film Festival among its packed calendar of events.

Each May the restaurants, bars, hotels, beaches, and promenades fill up with the rich and famous from the movie industry, making a Mediterranean luxury yacht charter in Cannes the perfect base at the heart of the action. For those looking for a quick escape from the glitz and glamour the Iles de Lerins are mostly covered in pine forests with secretive beaches to the south for tranquil relaxation or fun with the water toys.

From Cannes, sailing yachts and motor yachts have access to other impressive cultural or natural destinations such as Antibes, Nice, Monaco and St. Tropez. The 200+ beaches of Corsica lie just beyond the sea and Sardinia is also a bio-diverse wonder catering to all aspects of the luxury yachting lifestyle at Porto Cervo.

Cannes is relatively tranquil for most of the year and conveys the relaxed feel of a beach resort. Cannes is positioned quite centrally along the French Riviera with easy access to Antibes, Nice and Monaco in the north and St. Tropez in the south. A power yacht could almost explore all of these ports, in a couple of days.

The Cost to Charter a Private Boat in Cannes:

Cannes yacht charter prices begin at around 15,000 Euro, all-inclusive and go up to over 1,000,000 Euro plus expenses. There are thousands of charter yachts available in Cannes at prices between these figures. Here is the full list of yachts available in Cannes this year.

5 quick reasons to visit Cannes:

The Cannes Film Festival and other international festivals held throughout the year, sensational cuisine, fantastic shopping, world-class museums and beautiful gardens.

Cannes Yacht Charter Experiences

In the Old Quarter beside the marina, take in the artistry that was poured into the Church of Our Lady of Esperance and continue your journey through a different era with the Musée de la Castre just a short walk away. The Villa Rothschild & Gardens are now a public library and well worth a visit on a stroll through the Cannes streets, while back at the marina the Palais des Festivals et des Congrès de Cannes is an unmistakable modern building that hosts not only the Cannes Film Festival but the Fireworks Festival, Dance Festival and International Games Festival throughout the year.

Shopping opportunities abound in Cannes, where big brand names such as Louis Vuitton and Burberry line the streets along with one of a kind art galleries and boutiques for that bespoke piece for the home or wardrobe.

As one of the better known yacht charter ports in France and indeed the Mediterranean, Cannes offers all the main types of yacht charters such as motor, sailing, skippered, crewed yachts, catamarans, power boats, luxury yachts and off-course the ever increasing superyacht charter.

What characterises the Mediterranean is its myriad architectural styles spanning an incredible and tumultuous history, magnificent beaches that stretch for miles or are hidden in forested coves, clear blue seas and an abundance of ports and yachting facilities for superyachts of all shapes and sizes.

The Western Mediterranean is one of the world’s premier yacht charter locations – and Cannes is positioned strategically to experience the best of what the region has to offer.

More about this part of France

The Cannes luxury yacht charter location is part of a larger region known as the South of France, the Cote d'Azur or the French Riviera. There is no fixed definition for the French Riviera, however the Calanques National Park to the west and Monaco to the east are generally considered its boundaries.

Pack your week-long holiday with vineyard tours, beaches and grottoes, with satisfying snorkelling and Scuba diving sites for all ages and abilities up and down the coast. Festivals, concerts and other events are on regularly throughout the year. This culturally rich region has been influenced by the Greeks and Romans, aristocratic Russians, poets, writers, artists and musicians throughout the centuries, leaving behind a bounty of castles, fortresses, flavoursome recipes and works of art that will characterise your holiday.

Things to Consider:

Yachting Seasons & Climate: Cannes in the summer has a comfortable average temperature of 27°C/81°F, whereas a luxury yacht charter in December and the New Year will experience temperatures around 7°C/44°F. October tends to be the wettest month with June through to August the driest period.

Clothing to Pack for Your Charter: From the sensational beaches to the centre of Cannes, your wardrobe will be varied to match the occasion: Pack smart wear for attending galas and casinos, light layers for the summer months and a jacket for the cooler evenings. If visiting religious sites, clothing should cover shoulders and thighs.

Main Ports and Marinas: Le Vieux Port, Port Pierre-Canto, Port Pointe Croisette

Famous Restaurants & Clubs: La Palme d'Or restaurant, Da Boutta - Auberge Provençale restaurant, Le Park 45 restaurant, Le Bar à Vin, Chrystie Bar, Le Bar L'Amiral, Martinez Bar

A Must See Attraction: Cannes Film Festival, Dance Festival, Fireworks Festival, International Games Festival

Best beaches to visit in your yacht:

Bijou Plage, Plage de la Croisette, Plage de la Bocca, Plage du Midi, Petite Plage Sainte Marguerite, Plage des Pierres Hautes

Local Yacht Events: Cannes Film Festival, Cannes Yachting Festival

Best time to go: From May until the end of September the Mediterranean is bursting with regattas, beach parties and music festivals. To have land-based locations and popular beaches to yourselves, avoid visiting in July and August when the school summer holidays take place. The Mediterranean is also a great winter destination, offering a warmer climate to the east and an atmospheric holiday experience among Belle Epoch architecture along the French Riviera.

Cannes Yacht Charter Enquiry

The cruise was fantastic and the "Impulse" is a truly comfortable and luxurious yacht and we all enjoyed our team there very much. Everything was perfectly prepared when we arrived and the crew was amazing --- Jolande is a fantastic and creative chef who created the most delicious food always wonderfully presented (I very much enjoyed joining her early morning in St. Tropez on her shopping tour to the fish market and other lovely butchers, bakeries and cheese shop where we found the most delicious ingredients for her magical cooking), Bernadette took care of us in the most friendly and attentive way and last but not least Tim, a very helpful and insightful skipper who showed us the most beautiful places. The "Impulse" is a wonderful yacht but the crew made us feel right away at "home" amongst friends. To make a long story short, the cruise was a wonderful and most enjoyable experience and I'm sure it was not the last time I spend time on the "Impulse". Yacht Description

Motor Yacht ANTISAN is a magnificent 33-meter long vessel, built by the esteemed Spertini/Alalunga shipyard in Italy and designed specifically for charter purposes. The yacht has undergone continuous upgrades to ensure it remains in excellent condition. It is the ideal vessel for charters in the Mediterranean, as well as corporate yacht charters during events like the Cannes Film Festival and the Monaco Grand Prix. The yacht is based at the Port of Cannes, adjacent to the Palais des Festivals, where several famous events take place such as Cannes Lions and the MIPIM property exhibition.

ANTISAN is one of the few charter yachts that can legally accommodate more than 12 guests, with a capacity of up to 40 guests. This makes it the perfect yacht for large groups, corporate events, yacht weddings, and parties. It is a preferred choice for professional footballers, athletes, and celebrities looking to have a day out on the water with friends on the French Riviera.

Luxury yacht ANTISAN has a beam of nearly 8 meters, providing ample deck space and internal volume for entertainment. Its interiors are elegant and spacious, featuring beautiful walnut cabinetry and refined, neutral fabrics. The main saloon has comfortable seating and a beautiful dining area. The yacht’s huge master cabin is located forward on the main deck and features an ensuite bathroom with a jacuzzi bathtub. The yacht also has four more guest cabins, three spacious doubles, and a twin cabin with an additional pullman berth. Every guest cabin onboard is ensuite and has Satellite TV, Hifi, and full air-conditioning. The yacht undergoes regular improvements inside and out, with no expense spared by the owner to keep it looking modern and offering the highest level of amenities.

Charter yacht ANTISAN features a large dining table on the aft deck that can seat 10-12 guests for lunches and dinners. Forward, there are spacious sunpads and a deck jacuzzi for ultimate relaxation. The upper deck is fully covered and can seat up to 30 people for sit-down meals, a rare feature on yachts of this size.

This makes ANTISAN the perfect yacht for corporate yacht charters, product launches, weddings, and prestigious events such as MIPIM, Cannes Film Festival, Cannes Lions, and the Monaco GP. The yacht can host fabulous parties in port for 70+ guests, and additional space on the quay can accommodate even more. At the MIPIM property exhibition in Cannes every March, ANTISAN regularly welcomes over 2,000 guests over the four days of the event.

In addition to its prime berth in the Port of Cannes, Motor yacht ANTISAN can secure prime berths in Monaco and St Tropez for your next event on the French Riviera!

The most crucial aspect of a successful yacht charter is a great crew, and ANTISAN excels in this regard. Its highly professional crew has been together for many years and is entirely dedicated to every charter they perform. Captain Andrea Bianchi, originally from Italy, has been based on the Côte d’Azur for over 30 years, and his knowledge of all popular Mediterranean cruising grounds is unmatched. The volume of repeat clients returning to the yacht year after year is testament to Captain Andrea and his crew’s dedication to ensuring exceptional charters every time. Motor yacht ANTISAN is always kept in perfect condition with regular upgrades. Over the winter of 2022/2023, the yacht underwent a mini-refit with lots of interior enhancements, new furniture on the flybridge, a new forward seating area, and new jet skis and toys.

Pershing GTX116 yacht

The most exciting yacht debuts at the 2023 Cannes Yachting Festival

Returning for its highly anticipated 46th edition, the Cannes Yachting Festival consistently delivers one of the finest displays of luxury yachts in the world. The lineup also tends to include several world-class premieres from shipyards eager to present their latest designs, and this year is shaping up to be no different. Here are some of the hottest debuts to look out for across Port Vieux and Port Canto when the show kicks off on 12 September...

Builder: Southern Wind Shipyard Length: 29.2m

Meaning "home" in Swahili, Nyumba is the fourth SW96 model to hit the water but the first hybrid sailing yacht ever built by Southern Wind. She was commissioned for an experienced yachtsman with globetrotting aspirations and has spent the summer warming up with a 7,500-mile maiden voyage from Cape Town to Malta. To aid in her performance, an advanced energy storage system allows for zero-emission cruising, extended range under power and silent nights in hotel mode.

Builder: Bluegame Length: 22.7m

The BGM75 model is the first multihull design from Sanlorenzo ’s sister brand Bluegame and has the ethos of a “motor yacht that by chance has not one hull, but two”, according to the yard. With the appearance of a monohull, BGM75 delivers the benefits of a catamaran such as increased stability, large volumes, and reduced fuel consumption. With the option to install solar panels on the deckhouse, the futuristic yacht is also capable of generating 5kW of green energy.

Canados Oceanic 143

Builder: Canados Length: 43.5m

Having completed sea trials in August, the long-awaited Canados Oceanic 143 arrives as the flagship explorer for Italian shipbuilder Canados. Her strength lies in her ability to balance speed and distance, capable of hitting top speeds of 23 knots and covering over 6,000 nautical miles at 8.5 knots. Rome-based designer Michela Reverberi has handled the yacht’s interior, which features an owner’s suite that spans the entire upper deck, while the twin-stepped hull is courtesy of Arrabito Naval Design in collaboration with the shipyard's chief naval architect Giovanni Senatore.

Builder: Arcadia Yachts Length: 29.3m

Inspired by a growing demand for wellness, the A96 focuses on promoting a sense of tranquillity for guests by establishing multiple points of contact with nature. Massive floor-to-ceiling windows create a sense of fluidity between the yacht's Igor Lobanov interiors and the outside environment, providing unobstructed views thanks to a pair of fold-down bulwarks to port and starboard. Guests are then ushered onto the aft deck through sliding glass doors, where another section of the deck unfolds to connect the seating area with an expansive beach club.

Builder: Pershing Length: 35.2m

With a sporty profile, the GTX flagship took inspiration from the Gran Turismo automotive imagery while also boasting signature Pershing performance. Two hulls have been released by the shipyard so far, with the first set to appear in Monaco and the second headed to Cannes in September. In a departure from the previous hull, the second GTX116 features four – as opposed to five – guest cabins and has been upgraded to include triple MAN 2,000hp engines over the standard package with three 1,800hp equivalents.

Builder: Cantiere delle Marche Length: 35m

While her aesthetics are well-suited to Mediterranean cruising, the RJ 115 Stellamar boasts some impressive explorer credentials, such as a 5,500-nautical-mile range and an "invisible crane" for the launch and recovery of toys and tenders. Launched earlier this year, she joins her bigger sister, an RJ 130 named Nuri , on the water and is the first of three RJ 115 models currently in development. Both the interior and exterior of Stellamar were designed by Francesco Paszkowski with added input from the shipyard and her owner, who pushed for a nature-themed interior with neutral tones throughout.

Builder: Sanlorenzo Length: 30.5m

Details of the SX100 have been kept tightly under wraps since the yacht was introduced in Cannes last year. One year later, Sanlorenzo is expected to lift the lid on its brand-new addition to the highly successful SX crossover range. Key features include signature fold-down terraces to pair with the generous lower deck beach club, as well as a massive lounge and sunbathing area forward. According to BOATPro , the first SX100 model is due to arrive just in time for its debut in September, with three additional units to follow in 2024.

Builder: Riva Length: 25m

Marking a "new chapter" for the Sarnico-based builder, the Riva 82 Diva inhabits both form and function owing to a reimagined use of space. The flybridge, for instance, boasts 40 square metres of useable deck space, with well-defined areas including a protected lounge with a dinette and bar in the centre, a sunbathing area forward and another lounge area aft. Also worth mentioning is the yacht's beach club, where two large bulwarks fold out to create floating terraces, expanding the yacht's six-metre beam by an additional three metres.

Builder: ISA Yachts Length: 44.3m

Unmistakeable in her appearance, UV II has a sporty profile designed by Enrico Gobbi - Team for Design with a plumb bow, aft-leaning radar arch and curved superstructure line built in the image of a modern sports car. Equally impressive are her Luca Dini interiors, featuring a gold and turquoise colour palette to go along with the yacht's playful atmosphere. Some of her onboard highlights include an extra-wide beach club, a Jacuzzi on the main deck and an expansive sundeck fitted with a custom bar, grill and large sunpads.

wallywhy150

Builder: Wally Yachts Length: 24.1m

This new model builds on the success of its bigger sister, the wallywhy200 , and expands Wally's range of offerings in the motor yacht segment. Luca Bassani , the Wally-Ferretti Group Engineering department and A. Vallicelli & Co put their heads together to create unparalleled interior volumes for a yacht of her size, with wraparound glazing offering a 270-degree view in the forward owner's cabin. Outside, guests can walk nearly the full length of the yacht on the sundeck, which offers separate areas for sunbathing, dining and socialising within a shaded lounge.

Swan OverShadow

Builder: Nautor Swan Length: 13.2m

Nautor Swan is expanding its motorboat range with a new model called the Swan OverShadow . The weekender yacht was designed by returning Finnish collaborator Jarkko Jamsen , who also created the brand's initial Swan Shadow tender. Unlike her sister, the Swan OverShadow is powered by an inboard engine, which allows for longer-distance cruising and larger deck spaces. The yacht also benefits from a rear platform that is able to be raised, lie flush with the main deck or be lowered into the water for easy access to the sea.

Magellano 60

Builder: Azimut Length: 18.5m

Designed in collaboration with Ken Freivokh , this latest addition to Azimut's Magellano line was created for owners who enjoy long voyages at sea in a proven and economical package. The new 60 is built on the brand's second-generation dual-mode hull, which the brand says delivers up to 20 per cent less fuel consumption at cruising speeds than a comparably sized yacht on the market. The Magellano 60 also made headlines earlier this year when the model was selected to trial the HVOlution biofuel during its maiden voyage from Savona to the Sicilian city of Taormina.

Builder: Aegean Yacht Length: 26m

Aegean's 26-metre motor yacht Ukiel will make its debut boat show appearance in Cannes, marking the first instalment of the yard's Aegean Explorer series. Powered by two MAN 650 HP engines, the 187GT yacht can achieve a maximum speed of 12.7knots and has a  range of over 3,500 nautical miles. All of the yacht's design, naval architecture, and marine engineering have been completed in-house by the Turkish shipyard, leveraging 50 years of experience into a capable and adept long-range cruiser.

Builder: Centuononavi Length: 16.7m

Italian shipyard Centounonavi relied on the proven partnership between designer Manuela Lucchesi and naval architect Marco Arnaboldi to create Vespro, a powerful cruiser with an efficient hull design. Twin 1,200hp MAN 8V engines paired with the yacht's water jet propulsion system deliver a blistering top speed of 56 knots and an equally impressive cruising speed of 50 knots. Similar to the yard's other ranges, the new Vespro model features a convertible aft deck with foldable bulwarks for a variety of activities on the water.

Builder: Ferretti Yachts Length: 27.4m

Courtesy of exterior design by Filippo Salvetti , the infinite views afforded by an all-season terrace is how the InFYnito series gets its name. The al fresco space on InFYnito 90 is found forward on the main deck and tucked in the bow, offering a concealed spot for unwinding which fits the brief for a "balanced, cosy and sophisticated" ambience that feels like an extension of the home. The interior is the work of Ideaeitalia , which continues the calm aesthetic with soft lines and neutral tones.

Builder: Ocean King Length: 36.2m

Venetian shipyard Ocean King is better known for its commercial boats, but its venture into the yachting realm has so far been triumphant. Making her debut at the Venice International Boat Show 2023, Vãyus marks the first in the Ducale 120 series. Although she departs from the rugged explorer styles Ocean King is best known for, she retains an impressive estimated range of 5,500 nautical miles.

Baglietto T52

Builder: Baglietto Length: 52m

Known as hull 10238, the 52-metre model is the flagship hybrid model in Baglietto 's sporty T52 line. The hybrid propulsion system allows owners to opt for more efficient cruising modes, consequently minimising consumption and lessening the yacht’s environmental impact. Interior design is by Francesco Paszkowski Design , working in collaboration with Margherita Casprini , where a fresh and natural décor is created through teak, lacquered surfaces and Botticino marble.

What Should I Consider Before Renting a Yacht in Cannes?

Yacht Rental Cannes

When venturing into the waters of Cannes on a vessel so grand as a yacht, one must take heed of certain aspects that contribute to this exhilarating experience.

⛵ Nature's Whims and Seasons

The Mediterranean climate is generally pleasant, but as in all natural habitats, it is subject to changes. Seasons alter the temper of the sea and the sky, and it is wise to acquaint oneself with the local weather patterns. Spring and summer are often preferred, offering warmth and gentle breezes, yet autumn brings its own charm with a tranquil sea and skies painted with hues of twilight.

⛵ Regulations and Respect

Navigating these waters is akin to navigating a complex ecosystem. Local regulations, port authorities, and the delicate balance of nature all require one's utmost respect and understanding. Safety, etiquette, and environmental considerations must form the compass by which one steers.

⛵ The Right Crew

Much like a lion's pride or a flock of birds, a yacht's crew must function as a cohesive unit. Selection of an experienced and compatible team is paramount to ensuring that the voyage is harmonious, safe, and splendid.

Which is the Best Yacht for Cannes Waters?

Choosing a vessel to traverse Cannes' waters is not unlike choosing the perfect organism to thrive in a specific habitat. One must weigh form and function, elegance and efficiency.

⛵ Size and Luxury

A yacht is more than mere transportation; it is a floating palace, a home on the waves. Consideration of size and amenities is vital. Smaller yachts offer intimacy and ease of navigation, while larger ones present a grander stage for entertaining and comfort.

⛵ Eco-Friendly Considerations

In an age where humanity's footprint weighs heavily on nature's back, an eco-friendly yacht serves as a testament to one's commitment to conservation. Modern vessels equipped with advanced technologies may glide across the waves with minimal disturbance to the vibrant life below.

⛵ A Harmonious Design

The design of the yacht must be a harmonious blend of aesthetics and functionality. Sleek lines that cut through the water, interiors that cradle and pamper, and engineering that whispers rather than roars—all these contribute to a sailing experience that is both thrilling and peaceful.

In conclusion, renting a yacht in Cannes is not merely a transaction; it's an embrace of an experience that binds nature, luxury, and humanity in a graceful dance. The allure of Cannes' waters calls to those who seek to explore the wonders of our world from a vantage point that offers both grandeur and grace. One's voyage upon these waves is a sonnet, a painting, a tale of connection and celebration, narrated by the eternal song of the sea.

From Power Cats to Explorers: Nine Must-See Vessels Debuting at the Cannes Yachting Festival

Stunners from azimut, benetti, baglietto, ferretti yachts and more will be standout debuts at the first big show of the season..

New Launches at Cannes

Boat show season kicks off next month with the arrival of the Cannes Yachting Festival. The annual event, which takes place from September 6 to 11, 2022, will showcase one of the largest collections of European and world debuts in years. Visitor attendance is also expected to hit record highs, with potential owners keen to catch the first glimpse of the latest launches from the world’s top shipyards. Here are nine boats making world premieres on the French Riviera.

Baglietto Dom 133 ‘Attitude’

yachthafen cannes

Presenting 133 feet of Attitude , this yacht is the second of six Baglietto DOM 133 models. The exterior was designed by Stefano Vafiadis with an interior by Ezequiel Farca. Attitude was built to cross oceans with a 3,500-nautical-mile range. A key feature is the split-level beach club with a hydrofloor infinity pool, meaning the pool floor can be raised flush to expand the footprint of the cockpit. With a seven-foot draft, it’s an ideal bluewater cruiser that can access shallow waters.

Benetti 37M B.Yond

yachthafen cannes

Goga , the first of Benetti’s new 37M B.Yond series, brings zero emissions to a pocket explorer. The 121-foot yacht forms part of Benetti’s Voyager series and was the last project in collaboration with designer Stefano Righini before his death. It’s billed as the greenest boat in its class, thanks to SCR catalytic filters and a Siemens E-mode hybrid system that tailors energy consumption to guests’ usage. On the inside, Mauro Izzo’s white interior is stunning but not over the top, with details like a walk-in wine cabinet on the upper deck to enhance life on board. The B.Yond’s rear quarters is another noteworthy detail in this new design. The stern’s fold-out terrace adds an extra layer of gracious living at the water line.

Ferretti Yachts 860

yachthafen cannes

Bringing art deco-inspired beauty to Cannes this year, Ferretti’s 860 flybridge yacht pairs Italian elegance with performance. Floor-to-ceiling windows, cutaway bulwarks and a glass transom provide uninterrupted views from the main deck. It’s separated from the semi-raised pilothouse by a fully enclosed galley. Despite measuring only 88 feet, the tri-deck design optimizes space. On the asymmetric flybridge an optional jacuzzi, sunpads, second helm and al fresco dining area ensure the small footprint uses every square foot. A choice of three hardtops adds an extra layer of customization. On the lower deck, a drop-down swim platform is teamed with a water-level tender garage, large enough to store a 13-foot tender.

Apreamare Gozzo 45

yachthafen cannes

This large Italian gozzo design brings a dash of elegance to the Cannes lineup of classy cruisers. Conceived by Cataldo Aprea, naval architect Marco Casali of Too-Design and Umberto Tagliavini of Marine Design, the round-stern gozzo styling of this 45-footer centers around outdoor spaces. They include the swim platform, two large sunbeds and a dining table for eight in the cockpit. At the bow, more oversized sunbeds create a lounge area accessed on both sides. High bulwarks keep guests splash-free when the boat is under way. Below decks, owners can choose between a two-cabin layout with dinette, or a three-cabin layout, both with two bathrooms.

TecnoRib Pirelli 50

yachthafen cannes

Designed by TecnoRib in collaboration with the Mannerfelt Design studio, the Pirelli 50 is suited for daily use, as a support vessel for superyachts or standalone go-fast boat for mid-range cruises. The 49-foot walkaround will make its world debut at Cannes this year, combining practicality with peformance. Aggressive, fast and attractive—with teak decking and a slanted hardtop over the cockpit—the boat’s joystick controls create easy maneuvering, while two Mercury Verado 600s pack 1200 horsepower for a 50-knot top end. Two sunpads at the stern and a bow lounge area open up the boat’s social possibilities.

Invictus GT320S

yachthafen cannes

As the fourth outboard model from Invictus, the GT320S twins the Italian shipyard’s characteristic half-reverse bow with a neat and linear profile. But all eyes will be on the large living area when the nippy 33-foot cruiser debuts at Cannes, which replaces the space occupied by the engine room on the sterndrive version. A small bimini provides shade and can be swapped out for an optional carbon hardtop. The design also includes integrated lighting, an added feature typically found on much larger boats. A pair of Yamaha outboard engines with 300hp come as standard, though the boat accommodates engines up to 900hp that deliver a blistering 50-knot top speed.

Azimut Grande 36M

yachthafen cannes

Designed by Alberto Mancini to evoke a feeling of being completely immersed in nature, the Azimut Grande 36M attempts to be one interwoven space. Full-height windows, a walkaround upper deck that runs from bow to stern and a sky lounge with oversized slide-away glass doors all contribute to the indoor-outdoor connection and informal ambience. An all-glass hot tub on the sundeck adds style. The 118-footer’s large beach club delivers waterside sophistication. Forming part of Azimut’s Low Emission range, the Grande’s lightweight carbon-fiber superstructure helps reduce fuel consumption by 20 percent, according to Azimut, while the displacement-to-planing hull (D2P) bolsters cruising efficiency by 40 percent.

Prestige M48

Making a multihull entrance at Cannes is the Prestige M48. It will be the first power catamaran from French builder Prestige Yachts. Taller than other power cats, its multiple outdoor spaces include a flybridge with dining area and second helm, and a beach club terrace that suspends guests over the water. Inside, a deep bridge deck links the two hulls, which creates enough space for full-beam cabins. Powered by twin 320-hp Volvo Penta D4s, Prestige says the boat is 20-percent more efficient than a similar-sized monohull when cruising at high speeds.

Riva 102 Corsaro Super

yachthafen cannes

Silver, sporty and with an arrowhead bow, the first model in Riva’s 102 Corsaro Super range looks like a speeding bullet. The 99-footer is the successor to Riva’s enduring 100 Corsaro model, designed by Officina Italiana Design, Piero Ferrari and the Ferretti Group engineering department. Owners can choose from two interior configurations. There are also two engine setups: MTU 16V 2000 M96 engines for a top speed of 26 knots, or twin MTU 16V 2000 M96Ls that produce 28 knots. The yacht’s 377-sq.ft. beach club adds another element to the yacht’s gracious waterside living.

New yachts at Cannes Yachting Festival 2023

  • Toby Hodges
  • September 5, 2023

As summer draws to a close boat show season arrives. Here's our pick of the best new yachts at Cannes Yachting festival 2023.

yachthafen cannes

Cannes Yachting Festival has always featured a wide-array of new multihull launches – it is France, after all – but in recent years the French boat show has grown and now features some of the most exciting launches for both multihulls and monohulls. With so much on offer for the Cannes visitor, here’s our pick of the most interesting new yachts at Cannes Yachting Festival 2023.

The latest model to hit the water, the HH44, will be the smallest in the range and therefore available to a wider audience, even if the price tag still ranges upwards of US$1 million ex VAT. Nevertheless this hasn’t deterred 35 owners ordering boats off-plan before the first one left the yard.

This Morrelli & Melvin design is not as ultra high performance as some of the earlier and larger HH models. This is especially true in the OC (Ocean Cruising) versions of the HH44, which have an easily handled format with aluminium mast, white gelcoat finish and mini-keels as standard instead of daggerboards. Nevertheless displacement is one third lower than that of many catamarans of this size, which promises enjoyable and rewarding sailing, as well as markedly reducing time spent under power when passagemaking.

SC (Sports Cruising) models include current race boat technology, including carbon C-foils and rig, a painted hull finish, plus over 4kW of solar panels.

The first boat, an SC model painted in a striking metallic silver, was scheduled to hit the water this summer. Demand has been such that HH is currently building an additional set of moulds and two production lines will run for the HH44 at its Cebu facility in the Philippines.

Grand Soleil 72LC

The new flagship for this Italian yard follows the performance version launched last year and differs in having a larger coachroof and raised saloon, with a 270° view even when seated. This in turn gives space for machinery below the saloon, freeing up more space towards the back of the boat for accommodation.

This is not superyacht territory, even though interior volumes are as large as those of a small superyacht of 10-15 years ago, but the yard sees the sector above 60ft as being a semi-custom sphere and will work closely with owners to achieve their dream yacht.

yachthafen cannes

Windelo has redesigned the deck and superstructure tooling for its 50 and 54ft models. The result is a lighter and airier boat, with a more curved and sportier look that includes flush glazing.

Eco-responsible materials, forward cockpit with twin helm stations, a modular loft-style living space, plus electric motors with green energy production have been retained. Battery banks are sufficiently large to motor for four hours without running the generator.

yachthafen cannes

Garcia Exploration 60

Following the success of Garcia Yachts’ Exploration 45 and 52 models, which attracted notable clients including Jimmy Cornell and Pete Goss, this Cherbourg-based yard has announced a significantly larger yacht in the same mould.

The Exploration 60 is intended as a tough aluminium centreboarder with a reinforced stem, watertight companionway door, aluminium forward and aft bulkheads, plus skin fittings that are effectively above the waterline. Although this is a much larger vessel than the two existing boats in the range, all essential sail handling can be carried out from the cockpit and there’s a sheltered watch keeping position/navstation in the deck saloon with good forward visibility.

A large sail plan, twin rudders and a massive 3.65m (12ft) draught with the centreboard down help with sailing performance.

At the same time this yacht is configured for exceptionally long periods of autonomy, including diesel tankage of 2,500lt, making high latitude voyages in relative comfort and luxury a viable option. A range of layout options are offered, from a very spacious two-cabin arrangement to four cabins.

yachthafen cannes

The first new model since the sale of the brand by Groupe Beneteau to Solaris a couple of years ago, this 78 met with immediate success when four were sold off plan and an 88 was also announced. CNB remains a very popular name for those looking at managing a large, fast cruising yacht short-handed.

The design team has remained the same in Philippe Briand and Jean-Marc Piaton so the signature styling, particularly around the coachroof and deck saloon, remains with some tweaks to the interior layout below decks. But production has moved to Solaris’s ever expanding yard near Trieste and the construction techniques improved to give a stiffer, lighter result and a promise for higher finish quality.

yachthafen cannes

Oceanis 37.1

Beneteau’s Oceanis 38.1 has been a mainstay of the range since its launch nine years ago, yet yacht design has moved on in leaps and bounds since then. For its replacement, Marc Lombard Yacht Design and Nauta Design were asked to improve both performance and accommodation volumes.

As a result, the hull shape embodies much recent design knowledge, with broad forward sections and a marked chine almost the length of the boat. The effect is to markedly improve form stability when the boat starts to heel, without a big increase in light airs wetted surface area. This gives more interior volume, allowing a wider forecabin that’s also pushed further forward in the boat. Two- and three-cabin versions with one or two heads are offered.

Standard deck layouts allow for easy sailing, including a self-tacking jib, while a furling mainsail is offered as an option. The rig is engineered without a backstay, which frees up space at the back of the cockpit, while also allowing the more powerful First Line version to be fitted with a square top mainsail, plus furling 110% genoa, giving 22% more sail area than the standard model.

The launch of the Hanse 460 two years ago marked a step-change for the German yard. New designers Berret-Racoupeau created a yacht with a totally different feel to the existing range, with a bold new look and the feel of a significantly larger vessel than the Hanse 458 it replaced.

Yet, despite the extra bulk, this is a boat with better sailing qualities than earlier cruisers – narrow waterline beam translates to surprisingly good light airs performance, especially using a Code 0 or reaching with an asymmetric kite, yet as with other recent designs, stability builds rapidly as heel increases.

Accommodation includes large cabins both forward and aft, while there’s 2m (6ft 7in) headroom throughout the boat, which helps amplify the feeling of space.

Options include all electric propulsion with a range of up to 55 miles, fuel cell, solar panels, and sails made from recycled material.

yachthafen cannes

Gunboat 72V

Yes it’s a Gunboat… with a flybridge. The first of two in build, the 72V marries Gunboat’s renowned performance with more cruising comfort, particularly the benefit of extra living space and that higher vantage point. As you can see from the photo above, somehow VPLP has managed to blend that higher tier into the aerodynamic lines too.

While it’s not the super-clean look of Gunboat’s modern range, a glance at the fine entries, hull lines and powerful rig may help explain how it can still match windspeed from 8 knots true plus. We saw this in build, including where Gunboat added the central extensions to the 68’s mould and it’s very impressive. One can only start to imagine what the 80 will look and sail like, which is due to be at the Maxi Worlds in September.

Fountaine Pajot 80

Full details of FP’s new flagship are still emerging, but at 24m LOA and over 11m beam it will eclipse even the Lagoon SEVENTY7 as the giant of production cruising yachts. The Berret Racoupeau design boasts the equivalent volume and space of a 20-30ft longer superyacht monohull (including the 66-tonne displacement). Key features include fold out wings each side of the cockpit, a full beach terrace, a covered flybridge and dedicated toy spaces. The cabins (4-6) look equally plush, especially the owner’s suite with its accompanying jacuzzi.

Palais des Festivals, Cannes, France

14 - 25 May 2024

By Editorial Team

The Cannes Film Festival, also known as Festival de Cannes, captures the world's attention every year as some of the most famous faces in the world gather for 11 days in May for a glamorous celebration of the big screen.

Cannes yacht charters are always a popular  luxury yacht charter  option throughout the summer season but, during the iconic Cannes Film Festival, the port town's glamour goes up a gear as the most sought-after movie stars, directors, models, musicians, and other celebrities, arrive for an exclusive schedule of film premieres, red carpet action and invigorating after parties.

Adding to the festival's sparkling allure is the fleet of Mediterranean yacht charters lined up in and around Cannes. With close proximity to Vieux Port, the star-studded event is an ideal platform for a corporate yacht charter , which will act as a private and indulgent setting for hosting parties, fine dining functions, live entertainment and meetings on board.

Yacht rentals and the Cannes Film Festival

There is certainly no better way to impress and entertain clients, contacts, and friends than from a luxurious superyacht charter based in the opulent surroundings of the South of France .

The formal program of film premieres airs at the Palais des Festival, located directly opposite the bustling Old Port. Charter guests who want to be close to all the action are advised to book as early as possible to secure a limited availability berth along the Jetee Edouard Albert.

For those looking for more privacy on their French Riviera yacht charter , berthing away from the hustle and bustle in the nearby Port Pierre Canto is much quieter. Or for the utmost seclusion, anchoring off the coast and coming ashore by tender also has its benefits.

The glitz and glamour of the Cannes Film Festival

Evolving over the years but still seeking to preserve its core values: a love of cinema, the discovery of new talent, and uniting professionals and journalists from around the world, every year a new jury of judges awards a series of accolades at the Cannes Film Festival, including the iconic Palme d'Or.

In 2022, the festival celebrated its 75th anniversary, but the star-studded event shows no sign of slowing down and continues to be one of the world’s most widely publicized events and a real highlight of a France yacht charter .

As competition for a berth during the festival is fierce, it is recommended you book early. Cannes yacht encounter triggered alleged $1.8 billion fraud that put Malaysia’s ex-prime minister in prison

yachthafen cannes

It began with a meeting on a  yacht  off the coast of Cannes in the summer of 2009. The newly-elected prime minister of Malaysia was aboard at the invitation of businessman Jho Low and Saudi-Swiss businessman Tarek Obaid. The men had gathered   to explore deals for Malaysia’s new economic development fund, 1MDB.

Fifteen years later, the prime minister is in a Malaysian prison serving  time  for corruption. Low, the alleged mastermind behind the  $4.5 billion  defrauding of 1MDB, remains at large. And Obaid and his business partner Patrick Mahony will stand trial at Switzerland’s top criminal court on April 2, accused of creating a sham oil exploration company through which they stole more than $1.8 billion in 1MDB funds.

Neither Mahony or Obaid have spoken in public about their deals with Jho Low, a round-faced businessman they nicknamed ‘Chunk.’ The month-long trial, set in Switzerland because the two men based their business there, may reveal fresh details about the fugitive, who is suspected of pulling off arguably the biggest financial heist of the 21st century. Mahony   has denied the charges and pleaded not guilty. A lawyer for Obaid didn’t return multiple messages seeking comment on the charges.

It’s also a chance for Switzerland, seen as a soft touch on white-collar criminals, to demonstrate it can be tough on financial crime. A former Coutts & Co. banker found guilty in 2020 of failing to flag money-laundering concerns related to a $700 million transfer made by Low was fined just 50,000 Swiss francs ($55,700).

Prosecutors claim that the pair worked with Low on the scheme from as early as 2009, and the amounts at stake make it one of the largest frauds that Low allegedly helped orchestrate.

Mahony has been charged with criminal mismanagement, fraud, bribery and aggravated money-laundering, according to the 213-page indictment, with Obaid accused of all that and forgery. A conviction just on fraud charges carries a prison sentence of as much as 10 years, though in many Swiss cases, the sentence is suspended.

In the indictment, Swiss prosecutors lay out the pair’s alleged scheme — which, they say, included negotiating on behalf of a Saudi king they had no mandate from, while claiming the rights to a Caspian Sea oilfield that they never controlled — from that first Mediterranean meeting in 2009.

A lawyer for Obaid didn’t return emails seeking comment on the charges against her client. Laurent Baeriswyl, a lawyer for Mahony, said by email that the indictment is the result of a “totally biased and incomplete investigation.”

The Swiss Attorney General’s Office “ignored all the facts which did not correspond to its thesis, contrary to what the law requires” and so “our client therefore strongly contests the facts as they emerge from the indictment and he will defend his rights before the Federal Criminal Court.”

Saudi Connections?

Obaid founded oil exploration company Petrosaudi in 2005 with his acquaintance Prince Turki Bin Abdullah al Saud, determined to capitalize on the connections that royal name could enable.

But even with that woven into the company’s pitch, the ambitious 30-year-old still needed cash. He had secured a modest loan through Patrick Mahony, a former classmate from private school in Geneva, who would become Petrosaudi’s unofficial chief investment officer in 2009, according to the indictment. But he needed more, prosecutors say, and turned to Low.

Communicating only through encrypted BlackBerry messages and private email accounts, the three men got to work on the company. But according to the indictment, their strategy had little to do with oil exploration.

Prosecutors highlighted emails among the three men to drive home their argument that Petrosaudi didn’t control the assets it purported to have, nor did it have the Saudi monarch’s blessing. According to one sent in mid-September 2009 before an introductory call with a 1MDB executive, it was imperative to “hint that PSI is indirectly owned by King Abdullah.”

Turki, the seventh son of the late King Abdullah, isn’t accused of any wrongdoing in connection with Petrosaudi, and didn’t exercise any operational role within the company, according to prosecutors. Turki was one of several princes detained in November 2017 by Saudi Arabia’s defacto ruler Mohammed bin Salman, and his current whereabouts are unclear.

Turkmeni Oil

Following the Cannes   meeting, Obaid proposed that 1MDB and Petrosaudi create a joint venture to exploit Petrosaudi’s stake in a Turkmeni oilfield. Obaid laid out in writing, according to prosecutors, that Petrosaudi would bring “$2 billion worth of its assets in the energy sector into the joint-venture company.”

There was one problem: Petrosaudi didn’t own the oilfield or the rights to it, but was rather in stalled negotiations with a firm that had paid $10 million to buy up the rights. But those paper rights were essentially worthless as the oilfield lay in waters whose ownership was disputed by Turkmenistan and Azerbaijan.

So Obaid turned to an oil consultant and old family friend to value the oilfield. Nine days later, he produced a report that put the “fair net present value” of the assets at between $2.98 billion and $4.06 billion.

With that hefty valuation in writing and the Saudi royal family’s backing established in the minds of 1MDB executives, the board of directors signed off on Sept. 26, 2009, and two days later authorized the transfer of $1 billion to bank accounts held by the new joint venture, 1MDB PetroSaudi.

Three hundred million of that went to an account controlled by Obaid, according to prosecutors. The remaining $700 million went to GoodStar, which was falsely presented as a unit of PetroSaudi but was in fact a Seychelles-based entity controlled by Low. On Oct. 5, the businessman wired $85 million of that to an account held in Obaid’s name. Obaid, in turn, wired $33 million to Mahony on Oct. 21.

The following year, prosecutors allege that the pair set about extracting additional money from 1MDB. Obaid had persuaded the fund to turn the joint venture into a loan facility and he drew down $500 million, ostensibly to invest in French oil company GDF Suez.

Newly flush, the pair appeared keen to distribute the funds quickly, emails show.

“Right now we are in a good situation because we have this money in a clean and proper legal way so there is nothing anybody can do to us,” Mahony wrote to Obaid in September 2010.

The next day, he transferred $300 million into Obaid’s personal account and the remaining $200 million to Petrosaudi accounts he controlled, according to prosecutors.

Then in 2011, Obaid drew down again, this time for $330 million, prosecutors allege. To pressure the Malaysians to accept, he reminded them of how King Abdullah helped evacuate Malaysian Muslims during the Arab Spring protests, and how he had increased the quota of Malaysian Muslims able to make the pilgrimage to Mecca.

Between 2009 and the end of 2011, prosecutors say that the men took a total of $1.83 billion from 1MDB, with Obaid personally pocketing $580 million, and Mahony, $37 million.

Bangkok Prison

Obaid and Mahony’s 2023 indictment was based in part on the testimony of Xavier Justo, the third employee at Petrosaudi. After just a year at the company, Justo left and was arrested in Thailand in June 2015. Convicted of attempted blackmail in what he says was a conspiracy on the part of Obaid, Mahony and the Malaysian authorities to silence him, the Swiss national spent 18 months in prison before his country’s government intervened to help get him released.

Documents Justo shared with  The Sarawak Report,  a blog focused on corruption in Malaysia, led to the first  expose  of the Petrosaudi pair in 2015. He published a  book  last year, co-written with his wife, chronicling his experience with the two men.

The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission flagged its own arrest warrants for Obaid and Mahony to Interpol in early 2020. It’s unclear if they were ever detained and Swiss prosecutors declined to say whether they ordered their arrest.

Years on, Justo says he hopes that his country’s justice system will now do the right thing.

“This is the perfect opportunity for Switzerland to show the world that it is serious about fighting financial crime and that it is prepared to punish those who perpetrate it,” he said.
