DAR yacht interior

With floor-to-ceiling windows, the Dar yacht can give its guests a great view of the outside world at any time. Designed by Nuvolari Lenard, the interior has some interesting features throughout.

There are underwater lights placed inside, and the owner specifically requested that no dark wood would be used in the interior design.

Instead, a blend of sycamore fiddleback and maple bleached grey was used, and to bring everything together, the details were made using Brazilian Caballo wood.

There are even more details throughout the yacht, with 3D-cut leather and 3D-lacquer in the living spaces.

The idea was to bring nature as the main source of inspiration. Light colors and timber help bring the look together.

Guests can find motifs of leaves, fish, and other things from nature featured throughout the yacht.

The Dar yacht is 90 meters (295,3 ft) long and was built by Oceanco. Her beam is 14,6 meters (47,10 ft) and the draft reaches 3,95 meters (12,11 ft) in length.

Her top speed is 20 knots, her cruising speed is 8 knots, and she’s powered by twin diesel MTU (20V 4000 M73L) 20-cylinder 4,828hp engines.

She has the capacity to keep up to 14 guests in the seven suits available, and a crew of 31.

dar yacht back

The Dar yacht has an exterior that’s almost futuristic in its design. Behind it, all is Luiz de Basto Designs, and the thought behind the exterior design was to make her look a bit like a shark.

A hammerhead shark, to be exact. This can be seen in the shape of the wing stations, for example.

The glass features on the Dar yacht are extensive. The exterior glass alone weighs about 22 tonnes, and there is a total of 390 square feet of glass on board. The black parts of the exterior are mostly made up of glass as well.

The owner’s private deck has been designed to be just that – private. He can look out at the world, but the world can’t look back in through the windows.

Russian billionaire’s 90-metre yacht docks in Singapore

ziyad manasir yacht

SINGAPORE – The 90m super yacht Dar, linked to Russian billionaire Ziyad al Manasir, is currently moored in Singapore’s Marina at Keppel Bay.

The vessel arrived in Singapore on Feb 18 after sailing four weeks from Genoa, Italy, according to shipping data analysed by Bloomberg.

According to the SuperYachtFan website, the ship can carry 12 guests and has a crew of 31 people. Its running costs are about US$18 million (S$24 million) per year, according to the website.

It is not clear if Mr Manasir, the Jordanian-born founder of Stroygazconsulting, a construction company based in Russia, travelled on the yacht from Italy.

After Russia attacked Ukraine last year, Mr Manasir, 57, appeared on a US Congress list of 198 individuals to be reviewed for possible sanctions last year, but he has not been targeted or charged with wrong-doing. BLOOMBERG

ASML CEO says world needs the legacy chips China is producing, Handelsblatt reports

Chip buyers, including the German car industry, need the older generation computer chips that Chinese chipmakers are currently investing in, the CEO of equipment maker ASML said in an interview with Germany's Handelsblatt newspaper published on Monday. The remarks by Christophe Fouquet, who took over as CEO at Europe's largest tech firm in April, come as the European Commission has begun surveying firms including ASML for their views on Chinese firms' investments in so-called "legacy" chips, an important source of revenue for ASML. "The automotive industry in particular, including the German one, needs a lot more chips that are manufactured using simpler, long-known technologies," Fouquet told the paper.

Superyachts on sanctions radar

Oligarchs linked to Putin play worldwide game of cat-and-mouse on the seas to avoid seizures

Luxurious superyachts owned by Russian oligarchs reportedly close to the Kremlin have proved difficult to seize under Western sanctions imposed over Moscow’s war in Ukraine.

Russian President Vladimir Putin ordered the invasion one year ago, sparking a raft of economic penalties intended to punish his government and associates, both at home and abroad.

They included targeting the eye-catching and opulent marine status symbols of Russia’s elite that are still dotted around the world.

Experts say many of those yachts disappeared after the assault on Ukraine, before resurfacing in waters of countries that have not joined the unprecedented sanctions.

Former CIA agent and author Alex Finley has spearheaded an online hunt for Russian-registered mega-yachts under the Twitter hashtag #YachtWatch .

“People were very interested because … it really is a visual symbol of what was happening,” Finley told AFP.

“It became a little bit of a game, as the sanctions came and we started seeing the yachts disappear,” she said.

But such vessels are equipped with cutting-edge tracking systems that can be turned off only for safety reasons like piracy risks, meaning they can be traced online.

“The majority of them are in Turkey,” Finley said.

“A few of them have been spotted in the United Arab Emirates, so you have quite a few near Dubai. A few occasionally have shown up in the Maldives and in the Seychelles,” she added.

However, authorities have so far detained or seized only a handful of these opulent ships measuring up to 100 metres in length and featuring top-end facilities.

Too often they are floating in ports of countries that have not sanctioned Russia.

Covering tracks

Among the few ships seized is the superyacht Amore Vero , which is linked to Igor Sechin, the chief executive of the Russian state oil giant Rosneft.

The vast white vessel worth over 100 million euros, with a swimming pool that can be transformed into a helipad, was seized by French customs in the port of La Ciotat outside Marseille in March last year.

The industry newspaper SuperYacht Times confirmed other seizures including Amadea , a $300-million ship owned by oligarch Suleiman Kerimov and seized in May by authorities in Fiji on behalf of the United States. It has been impounded in San Diego, California.

Another big catch was Russian oligarch Viktor Vekselberg’s $90-million superyacht Tango in Mallorca, Spain, last April.

The US last month unveiled criminal charges against two men who it said sought to protect Vekselberg’s vessel from seizure.

And British authorities in March detained a Russian-owned $50-million superyacht, the Phi , docked at London’s Canary Wharf.

The situation is further complicated because many yachts avoid the Russian flag, while oligarchs often hide behind front companies to cover their tracks.

The Phi , for example, is registered to a company based in the Caribbean nation of Saint Kitts and Nevis and sails under a Maltese flag.

But Britain’s National Crime Agency anti-kleptocracy unit said its ultimate owner was a Russian businessman. The Financial Times reported last March that it belonged to Vitaly Vasilievich Kochetkov, a telecom oligarch. (Story continues below)

‘Hypocrisy of oligarchs’

The Organized Crime and Corruption Reporting Project , a journalist consortium, recently claimed that according to leaked documents, Russian billionaire Roman Abramovich owned at least 10 more yachts in addition to the six that are publicly known.

Abramovich, the former owner of the Premier League club Chelsea, has been hit with sanctions by Britain and the EU, though not the US, for his close ties to Putin.

And once a yacht is seized, authorities are left with the huge costs for maintaining them — sparking questions about who foots the bill.

“The rule of thumb for maintenance costs is about ten percent of the vessel’s value per year, but on some of the bigger yachts it can easily be more,” said Ralph Dazert, head of intelligence at SuperYacht Times .

“Keep in mind that this is not just about maintaining the yacht in working order, keeping it safe and compliant with regulations and looking nice, but the whole running cost of the yacht: so also crew, food and beverages, fuel (and) yacht management.”

For Finley, however, such expenses are the price to pay for penalising oligarchs who support Putin while enjoying the “benefits of democracy” elsewhere.

“As it became clear that Putin was going to invade, I started highlighting the Russian yachts that are here, just to point out this hypocrisy of the oligarchs,” she said.

“They support Putin in destabilising democracy, but at the same time they come here.”

In Russia, the most expensive mansion in the country worth 10 billion rubles, which is about 120 million dollars, is put up for sale. The estate for himself and his family was built by the oil tycoon Ziyad Manasir. BFM writes about it .

The most expensive mansion in Russia is located 23 km from the Moscow Ring Road in the cottage village "Greenfield" on New Riga. Its area is seven thousand square meters. In addition to many bedrooms, dressing rooms and dining rooms, the mansion has a greenhouse, a library, a wine cellar, a swimming pool, a cinema hall, a bowling alley, karaoke, a hookah room, a golf simulator and a spa. The wallpaper cost about $120 per meter, the chandeliers in the house are made of rock crystal, and in one of the bathrooms there is a bathtub made of copper onyx.

The first floor is decorated in the English style, the second - in the French-Italian eclecticism, the third - in pseudo-Gothic.

The founder of the Stroygazconsulting holding, one of the largest contractors of Gazprom, built a house specifically for his family and spent huge sums on interior decoration. Why the businessman decided to sell it is not reported.

“The owner obviously invested a lot of money in this finish and would like to exit the project without a loss for himself. There is no such thing as “overpriced” in the suburban elite market. Each mansion is absolutely unique and inimitable,” said an expert in luxury real estate Elena Yurgeneva, but noted that other mansions in this village for sale cost no more than $ 5 million, so it would not be easy to sell a huge estate.

History of stary oskol.

In 1300, there was a village called Ugly on the the territory of the present city. Today, it is one of the districts of Stary Oskol. At that time, the village was part of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania and was a border crossing point on the border with the Golden Horde.

The settlement of Oskol was founded by Russian Tsar Fyodor Ioanovich’s order (Ivan’s the Terrible son) to protect the southern borders of the Russian kingdom in 1593. The bulk of the population were peasants and the military.

In 1617, the town was burned by the Poles. In 1625, 1642 and 1677, the Crimean Tatars approached Stary Oskol, but could not capture it. The town was renamed Stary Oskol (meaning Old Oskol) in 1655, when the town of Tsaryov-Alexeyev, located down the river, was renamed Novy Oskol (New Oskol). Fortifications of the town existed until the 18th century.

More Historical Facts…

Gradually, Stary Oskol turned into peaceful, commercial and merchant town - the center of an agricultural district. Industrial production was represented mainly by enterprises on processing agricultural products.

In 1780, the town got its coat of arms. In 1784, Stary Oskol like most Russian towns of that time was rebuilt according to a new plan signed by Empress Catherine II. A large number of brick houses were built, mostly two-story buildings. The historic center of Stary Oskol has been preserved to our time.

In the second half of the 19th century, the town had a wide network of schools, libraries, reading rooms, printing, secondary schools. In 1894, construction of the railway began, trade and industry began to develop rapidly.

Until the 1930s, there were eleven Orthodox churches in Stary Oskol. During the Second World War, Stary Oskol was occupied by the Germans from July 2, 1942 to February 5, 1943. In 1954, the city became part of the newly formed Belgorod region.

In the late 1960s - early 1970s, in connection with the active development of the Kursk Magnetic Anomaly (the most powerful iron ore basin in the world), Stary Oskol became a major center of iron and steel industry.

Stary Oskol was declared a city of three top-priority Komsomol construction projects. The largest enterprises: Lebedinsky Mining and Processing Plant, Stoilensky Mining and Processing Plant, Oskolsky Electrometallurgical Plant became not only the city-forming enterprises, but also the largest industrial enterprises of the country. Stary Oskol experienced a new birth.

Today, Stary Oskol is a rapidly developing city, one of the leading mining and metallurgical centers of Russia.
