Description.

This Richard Woods design is a well known performance cruiser and is very popular with the cruiser racers. The model is available with either dagger boards or fixed keels. Although designed for home completion, many were built by production builders and were finished to a good standard. With easily driven hulls the sailing performance is above average and yet the hull "knuckle" just above the water line provides more "living" accommodation than one might expect from a 30ft catamaran.

Woods Strider Club Catamaran

Woods Strider Club by Palamos, built 1989, low aspect ratio keels, all in very good condition and ready to sail. Four berths, two berths using the forward half of the two hulls plus room for two more adults on the bridge deck. Galley installed in aft port hull and chemiloo in starboard hull. Solar panel to port cabin sliding hatch charges single battery for instruments, cabin lights, navigation and steaming lights and autohelm. Sails are elderly but good condition and comprise of a main with fully battened head and a single slab reefing points, two jibs both fit the roller reefing foil, and an asymmetric spinnaker.

Instruments, Helix GPS and fish finder, Nasa log and compass, plus hand bearing compass. The Tohatsu ultra long shaft 6bhp sailpro outboard has less than 20 hours running and seems to use about 1Ltr hour cruising at 5kts. Under sail she cruises between 6 and 8kts in a BF4 and on the last trip the GPS recorded 10.3kts.Also included, full boom tent which covers the bridge deck and hull hatches, plus a boom mounted sun shade. An A frame has been installed to ease the raising and lowering of the mast which also facilitates access to the fore stay for sail changing.She is currently moored in Suffolk so delivery to the East Coast would be very easy, she can also be dismantled to be transported on a flat bed trailer (transport beams included). Hulls and decks compound polished, antifouled six weeks ago (all original gel coat).Being offered for sale due to the owners advancing years, a real shame as she is an absolute joy to sail and I will miss her.

Busca – Prout Quest 33CS

Busca is understood to have been a prototype circa 83-84. The boat was built by Prout Bros and the original owner between 1983 and 1987, when she was finished and launched by the first owner.

Busca has had extensive upgrades and servicing in 2021 – 22. It has a good sailing performance and is a very well-equipped family cruising boat.

Strike 18 in Florida

Living in Florida, I chose to build the open deck version of the Strike 18.

As advertised, this boat is light and nimble, making it a joy for single handed sailing. The boat has seen three sailing seasons only on fresh water. With low aspect ratio keels, sailing where dagger boards fear to go is not a problem, as well as easy beaching.

The boat has plenty of room for you and a few of your friends. An extra storage compartment was built into the rear of the main hull.

The outriggers are Quattro 16 amas built for this boat. The entire boat was built new using Okoume marine plywood, Douglas fir solid framing. All plywood surfaces covered with 7 oz. Fibre Glast fiberglass and epoxy.

The spars and rigging were designed and built by US Spars. The sails, supplied by UK Sailmakers have standard rigging. The main sail 150 S.F., the jib 50 S.F.

The boat includes a Suzuki 2.5 H.P. four stroke outboard motor. The boat is trailered on a Magic Tilt aluminum trailer.

Swingcat an Eclipse 32

Swing Cat is a performance cruising catamaran with a bridgedeck. It is a Richard Woods Eclipse design measuring  9.9m in length and 5.9m on the beam.  It is built of solid wood and marine plywood and sheathed in biaxial glass fibre cloth impregnated with West-system epoxy resin.  The performance aspect of the boat comes from having daggerboards (rather than low aspect ratio keels), outboard motors for auxiliary power (rather than two inboard engines) and laminated tri-radial sails including a drifter (on a bowsprit) and a spinnaker.

Swing Cat has beaching keels and kick-up rudders so is happy drying out in tidal creeks.  Its wind generator and 6 solar panels charge 500Ah of battery storage which provides electrical energy via 12V DC and 240V AC distribution.  One can live off the grid with a high level of creature comforts while remaining connected to the shore via computers and mobile phones (if desired!). 

When on shore power in a marina, full use can be made of a microwave, toaster, electric kettle and electric heating.

The interior accommodation consists of a double cabin in the stern of each hull and single cabins in the bow of each hull, giving sleeping accommodation for 6.  The bridgedeck cabin provides comfortable seating around a large table and access to both hulls.  A cockpit awning, together with cockpit cushions, provide further shady seating in the cockpit as well as shelter from any shower.  The trampoline forward of the bridgedeck, between the hulls, is a favourite place for sunbathing, watching the sun go down, or for watching dolphins on passage.

The hulls and cabins are fully lined and insulated ensuring a cool interior on hot days and a cosy interior on cool days.  When at anchor on cold evenings a wood burning stove is available.  

Swing Cat is designed to have minimal impact on the environment.  The sources of renewable energy means there is no need to have a fossil fuel generator.  There is an electric motor for the tender.  

There is no discharge of sewerage from the boat and no conventional holding tank.  An ecological toilet ensures the separation of liquids from solids with both being captured, and disposed of, separately.  The absence of urine in the solids tank, together with the use of mechanical ventilation, ensures that using the heads is a pleasant experience!  

Swing Cat also has a grey water tank for cruising in environmentally sensitive areas. This tank retains washing-up and shower water until it is OK to discharge it – for example when dried out on a beach, grey water can be discharged only when the tide is in and the boat is afloat.

With forward-looking sonar, broadband radar, AIS Tx & Rx, VHF radio, Echomax radar reflector, electronic chart plotter, full size chart table and safety equipment, including lightning protection, Swing Cat is fully equipped for creek crawling or bluewater sailing.

Swing Cat was built by its owner starting in 2011 and was launched in 2016.  The website documenting the build and its sea trials can be found at  www.swingcat.co.uk  .  The reason for the sale is that the owner and his family no longer have as much time for sailing as they did previously.

Strider 25R - Sirius

Fantastic fun and capable catamaran. This is the extended version of original Woods Strider. It’s hull is based on the Club version with a solid cockpit floor and inward facing hatches to the hulls as well as having the LAR keels but has a much larger rig.

Sirius has the extended sloping transoms with scoop, forward cross beam and retractable asymmetric spinnaker pole.

The majority of the Striders were built in the 80’s but Sirius was a professional build in 2007. As you can see from the photos she’s in great condition and you will struggle to find a tidier example. We have used her for 3 years as a family boat with enough accommodation for 4 of us to stay onboard for short trips and week holidays.

The accommodation is surprisingly good and there’s space for 4 adults to sleep although little space for much else. We have added a fully enclosed cockpit tent which makes the most of the solid cockpit floor giving much more living space.

She’s well set up for short handed sailing. I’ve added a couple of smaller asymmetric spinnakers which are very easy to handle even single handed. Good turn of speed. We’ve had 13kts out of her in flat water and 18kts breeze. She gets to 7-10kts very easily.

Each hull has a single forward and single ft berth all very long around 2.5m with comfortable vinyl covered cushions. She is minimalist inside, so we added a fully enclosed boom tent. This greatly improves living space whilst maintaining access forward and aft. There is space for a portable toilet under the panel in the aft end of each hull if needed. The hulls have storage under the berths in each hull

GRP cockpit tray makes sailing much drier and more comfortable than the original Striders. Hulls are epoxy coated and regularly antifouled. Trampolines replaced 2021.

Engine Tohatsu 6HP long shaft. New in 2021. Only 8hrs run time. Stored inside hull for security - not heavy. Lies on flat fenders in the dry cabin. External and internal fuel tanks. Internal not used. Very economical yet pushes Sirius along at around 6kts.

Built 1980 Number 23 of production Series of 25 boats in Denmark. Solid GRP layup beneath the waterline, foam sandwich GRP elsewhere. Anti-fouling is a copper system. She had a full interior refit in 1995/96 including new floors, cupboards, light fittings, wiring, plumbing and deck cleats. New polycarbonate sliding main hatches and new marine ply washboards were fitted for 1999 season. The boat has been continuously maintained and improved by present owner.

Owned by a friend since 1989, and present owner since 2000. Previous owner sailed the boat from Kiel to Swansea, stopping at Ramsgate Harbour to pay UK VAT.

In 2001 present owner sailed her to Spain, wintered afloat for two winters in Mar Menor, Murcia, then ashore at Almerimar Marina. In 2004 she was sailed to Balearic Islands, Sardinia and on to Malta where she has wintered ashore each year until June 2017. For winter 2017/2018 she was in the very sheltered Porto Turistico Marina di Ragusa, Sicily and cruised Ionian Islands of Greece in summer 2018. She is now ashore at Preveza, Greece.

Port hull has navigation room with large chart table and electrics control panel Also a storage place for an outboard motor for dinghy (there is no motor), heads / toilet with sink and vanity unit., sail locker and stowage, plus quarter berth.  Standing headroom in the hulls. Galley has two burner SMEV stove and grill. Galley was professionally rebuilt in 1995/96 including stainless steel sink with hand pumped water tap, and storage cupboards and spaces. New galley floor (2017). Each hull has a flexible water tank.

Fully battened main, 1998 Ratsey sets well, Jeckells genoa, 2004 (UV protection strip replaced 2018) – good condition, No.1 (very good condition), inner staysail, spinnaker. Approximate sizes main 18 sq m, genoa 23 sq m, jib 15 sq m, staysail 10 sq m.

Sailspar genoa continuous line roller reefing system – 1996 Standing rigging was replaced in 2005. MOTOR - NEW 2018 YAMAHA HIGH THRUST 9.9 hp longshaft, electric start, tiller steering / controls kit, alternator (cost about 3700 euros). New 2.5 m RIB (2016) 2 x 105 amp hour leisure batteries (2017). Charging by two solar panels. Isolator switch allows one, other or both to charge and be used. One panel is fixed, one can be angled to the sun. New Garmin Chart plotter / gps (2016), new Lowrance VHF radio (2016) Autohelm, Davits, various equipment. Construction - Professionally built at Foss Quay, Millbrook, 1997 in Western Red Cedar Strip/Epoxy hulls with Marine Ply decks and superstructure, all coated in epoxy and glass fibre as per Woods Designs. Strider 25 (a Mk 11 Strider Club) SOLD from this advert!!!!

2008 Strider 25 for sale with asymmetric spinnaker. Hardly used, kept out of the water most of the last 3 years. In beautiful condition as it's only been sailed a handful of times. It's a 2008 boat where as most Striders are 1985-89, it has the big rig and the grp deck (like the Club) which makes it much nicer to sail or stay on than the original Strider.

I have to sell the boat on health grounds and dearth of crew. I bought the hulls from Palamos Boatbuild in 1989 then fitted them out as a Turbo and launched 1990. The sails are from the Gwahir "Rush Rush" and are still serviceable for cruising. There is a 4 horse Yamaha in excellent condition. New Z spar cruising mast fitted 1996. Net & trampoline need replacing.

The boat has never been raced but cruised, gently and comfortably, in the Irish Sea, Howth, IoM, Barmouth, and round the coast of Anglesey. The boat is tidy and presently laid up at Gallows Point, North Wales . My mooring License is paid up for the year.

Built by Palamos in 1988 Vixen is a standard Strider, that is to say she has daggerboards and a narrow deck (not up to the mast like the Club Strider.) There are also running backstays. She has had Bowmar hatches fitted to the coachroofs making the hulls much lighter inside.

Since 2000 when I bought the boat she has had new sails (the headsail is only 2years old) new standing rigging, new tramps, new rudders and a new 4hp Mercury four stroke outboard. There are two GPS one built in and working with the digital VHF. The other hand held GPS has fittings on the cabin so that it can be moved to whichever side the helmsman is sitting. Vixen was raced seriously in her earlier life, I have been gradually developing her as a cruising boat.

The price includes an excellent purpose built road trailer which has had new springs and brakes fitted and is ready to tow anywhere. The boat can be delivered anywhere in the UK within reason.

The WIZARD is a revolutionary design that offers 5 – 6 berths in 3 cabins, standing headroom, easy trailing, stability AND performance. The lifting hatch combined with the ‘pop-bottom’ gives standing headroom in the bridgedeck. The latter is raised when sailing. For the first time in a trailable catamaran there is a genuine double bunk.

It is legally trailable world-wide behind a family car. One person can assemble and rig it in under an hour ready for launching with no heavy lifting (e.g. the mast is raised using the trailer winch).

The Wizard is roomy. In its 22′ length there are 5 berths in 3 cabins for privacy (3 singles in the hulls and one double on the bridge deck), a separate toilet compartment. Galley and a dinette seating 5. There is standing headroom in the galley using a “pop bottom” in the bridge deck. For an interior drawing see Sango which has a similar layout.

It is fast, the computer predicts speeds of 10 knots under power (with a 15hp outboard) and 16-18 knots under sail (with the racing rig). These prediction have been well proven many times in practice. Yet it remains maneuverable and easy to sail single-handed. It has shallow draft and is beachable.
