This configuration of the 38mm Gerald Genta designed Yacht Club 2 in steel and gold is among the rarest due to the amount of gold needed for what could only be marketed as a mixed metal example. Complete with original papers stating it's sale to be from 1990, the watch is in incredible condition.

2010 was, for iwc, the year of the portuguese, when the company updated its vaunted seafaring line. the newest portuguese to make a splash is the portuguese yacht club chronograph (remember i gave you live reports from lisbon about this very launch ). the yacht club name is actually one that used to stand on its own for iwc and one that was hugely successful. introduced in the early '70s, the yacht club was part of a series of watches sold under the "sl" family name and designed by none other than gerald genta . genta, of course, is one of the most legendary watch designers, whose distinctive style was found in many 1970s swiss watches and in many ways was emblematic of that era. like pininfarina, the coachmaker, who designed the swooping bodies for so many classic ferraris and alfa romeos, genta was a hired pen, commissioned to put a drop-dead gorgeous case around different companies' movements. at a time when the quartz crisis was looming, iwc needed a new series of watches to defend its market share. this was the sl series. the ingeniuer sl was the best known of the bunch and the styling of that piece is still echoed in many of iwc's watches today, with the bracelet seamlessly integrated into the case and its angular lines. but also hot selling at the time were the polo club, the golf club and the yacht club that we're featuring today. the early yacht clubs were powered by excellent, sturdy iwc automatic movements but were soon replaced by a quartz calibre and most vintage examples that can be found are the quartz version. that's what we like about this 1970 yacht club for sale from matthew bain - it's in very good condition, has the classic genta styling and an automatic movement. this iwc would make for a great accompaniment to or everyday alternative to the much more expensive but similarly styled a-series royal oak from audemars piguet . check out all the details of this early 70s gerald genta-designed iwc by clicking here ..

The Yacht Club name is actually one that used to stand on its own for IWC and one that was hugely successful.

Introduced in the early '70s, the Yacht Club was part of a series of watches sold under the "SL" family name and designed by none other than Gerald Genta . Genta, of course, is one of the most legendary watch designers, whose distinctive style was found in many 1970s Swiss watches and in many ways was emblematic of that era. That's what we like about this 1970 Yacht Club for sale from Matthew Bain - it's in very good condition, has the classic Genta styling and an automatic movement. This IWC would make for a great accompaniment to or everyday alternative to the much more expensive but similarly styled A-Series Royal Oak from Audemars Piguet .

The Yacht Club II, penned by Gerald Genter, has been undervalued for most of its existence. Only in the last two years has the demand for the models with integrated steel bracelet exploded. From our point of view, there is still no end in sight. Especially the steel models are in high demand. An increase in value is still to be expected. This model is unworn and technically completely overhauled. There is still a protective sticker on the steel bracelet.

The rhodium gray dial has a unique patina. It reminds us a bit of a leo print. The black date disc emphasizes the cool character of the sporty yet luxurious design.

IWC Caliber 2250 The steel bracelet is full length and fits up to about 21cm wrist circumference.

The Portugieser Yacht Club Chronograph Edition "Orlebar Brown" was created in partnership with the British designer label.

As part of its partnership with the British designer fashion label Orlebar Brown, IWC is releasing the Portugieser Yacht Club Chronograph Edition "Orlebar Brown". The stainless steel case with a diameter of 44 millimetres is completed by a marine-blue dial, rhodium-plated hands and a red chronograph seconds hand. These colours are often used in Orlebar Brown’s product range. The nautical chronograph with elegant case proportions is fitted with a blue rubber strap with textile inlay and custom Orlebar Brown buckle. Thanks to its robust construction and water-resistance of 6 bar, it is ideally suited for use on water or on land. The IWC-manufactured 89361 calibre with flyback function displays the stopped hours and minutes combined on a subdial at "12 o'clock" and provides a power reserve of 68 hours.
