10 Day Cruisers Loaded With Downeast Personality

Find your next downeast runabout, perfect for boating in new england. .

This post was updated on January 14, 2021.

Written by, Ed McKnew, PowerBoat Guide Founder

The growing popularity across the country of Downeast-style cruisers has been enjoyable for many boating traditionalists to watch. Much of that popularity can be traced back to 1994 when Hinckley introduced the classic 36 Picnic Boat, a beautiful Downeast day cruiser with unique waterjet propulsion and open-air seating for a small crowd.

The Picnic Boat was a huge success for Hinckley , and it wasn’t long before other, mostly New-England builders followed with a variety of new Downeast runabouts under 30 feet that caught the attention of buyers across the country. The Downeast-style runabouts profiled below consist of eight-under 30-foot cruisers with a large cockpit and seating for six to eight people — often called “ Day Boats ” by boating enthusiasts. Half are from well-known builders with an entire line of Downeast models to choose from. The rest come from smaller builders, mostly in New England where the Downeast boats originated many generations ago. (Mainship, unfortunately, is out of business — the original Mainship, that is — but they once had the distinction of being the only high-volume manufacturer of Downeast boats in the business.)

All of the models featured here have single-diesel power, and all are built on seaworthy hulls with a deep keel offering at least partial protection to the rudder and prop. When it comes to construction, some brands are more high-tech than others. Downeast Runabouts are a niche segment of today’s express-boat market. In general, these are semi-custom boats meaning that customers have wide latitude in setting the boat up to meet their own needs. Locating a well-maintained used Downeast Runabout isn’t as easy as finding a used Sea Ray Sundowner — for those with patience, however, the wait is usually worth the effort.

1.  MJM 29z | Production Years 2007-Current

MJM 29 for sale

An extremely popular New England cruiser — roomy, fuel-efficient, and tons of character. Offered in three configurations; Down East with roll-up side windows, the Express with extended side windows (pictured above), and an outboard version of the Express able to hit 50 knots with 250 Yamahas. Kevlar/E-glass/epoxy construction with Corecell laminate is vacuum-bagged for exceptional strength and rigidity.

The perfect boat for cruising and weekending wraparound lounge seating in the cockpit for eight. Upscale cabin with cherry cabinets, convertible settee, galley, and the enclosed head is striking for its elegance and simplicity. Stidd helm chair, opening front windshield panels, bow thruster, teak-and-holly cabin sole are standard. Lightweight, easily driven hull burns just over 3 gallons per hour at 22–24 knots with single Volvo diesel — very impressive.

2. Hinckley Talaria 29R | Production Years 2003-Current

Hinckley-T29 for sale

Distinctive jet-driven runabout with varnished mahogany topsides is the perfect balance of beauty, craftsmanship, and performance. The cockpit — with its teak helm console, Nardi steering wheel — is reminiscent of an old-time sports car. Seating for ten includes a full-width transom seat, L-shaped lounge (with teak table) forward, aft-facing settee molded into the engine box. The varnished cherry cabin includes a V-berth forward and VacuFlush toilet.

A teak swim platform and bow thruster are standard. The engine box lifts at the touch of a button for access to the engine. A fully cored composite hull is Kevlar-reinforced for strength. The shallow draft is a plus in skinny water. Note transom tumblehome. Cruise at 25 knots (30+ top) with Yanmar 440hp engine with the Hamilton Jet drive and JetStick controls.

3. Back Cove 26 | Production Years 2005-2009

Back-Cove-26

Best-selling pocket cruiser combines traditional Downeast styling with versatile deck layout and single-diesel economy. A large aft cockpit with a storage lazaretto below offers plenty of space for socializing with friends and family. Below, the cherry interior boasts a forward dinette that converts to sleep two comfortably.

Aft of the dinette to starboard is an enclosed head with shower, and on the port side is a small galley with refrigerator, stove, and sink. Wide side decks and cockpit jump seats are a plus, and a bow thruster was standard. The entire helm deck lifts for engine access. The Back Cove 26 was available in an open bass boat style or with a pipe-supported hardtop for protection from the weather. Exceptional fit and finish throughout. Cruise at 22 knots (mid 20s top) with a single 260hp Yanmar diesel.

4. Fortier 26 | Production Years 1977-Current

Fortier-26 for sale

Classic Eldredge-McInnis design combines Downeast and bass boat styling elements in what the builder calls “an honest sea boat for fishing and cruising.” Full keel and skeg offer protection to the shaft and rudder; hull spray rails keep the deck dry. A wide 10-foot beam provides a spacious cockpit and space below for a small cabin with a V-berth, marine head, icebox, and butane stove. Note the distinctive teak windshield.

A hardtop and fish box have been popular options. Cockpit engine box can be used as seating. The Fortier’s hull is fully cored. Two 50-gallon fuel tanks below the cockpit deck provide a cruising range of 200–250 nautical miles. At 6,500 pounds, the Fortier 26 is no lightweight. Among several engines offered over the years, a single 200hp Volvo inboard diesel offers cruising speeds of 16–18 knots.

5. Albin 28 TE | Production Years 1993-2008

Albin 28 for sale

Mega-popular Downeast-style cruiser/ sportfishing boat with hardtop and flared bow was one of the most successful boats in her class. A cockpit engine box was standard until 2003 when a Flush Deck option moved the engine forward, opening up the cockpit in a big way. Wide side decks make getting around easy and safe.

Belowdecks, the 28’s roomy interior features a full-service galley with fridge and microwave, standup head with shower, mid-cabin berth aft, and a convertible U-shaped dinette forward. A teak-and-holly sole was standard, and six opening ports provide good cabin ventilation. Note wide side decks. Bow thruster was standard. Rugged, reasonably priced, fuel-efficient, and easily maintained — the Albin 28 is a terrific all-around boat with a strong following. Nearly 1,000 were built.

6. Hunt 29 Surfhunter | Production Years 2004-Current

Hunt-29 for sale

A beautifully finished 29-footer with classic Downeast lines — the Surfhunter draws a crowd everywhere she goes. Superb deck layout for entertaining features L-shaped settee with varnished wood cocktail table adjacent to the helm seat, aft-facing cockpit seat, removable stern seat. In spite of the engine box, the cockpit is big for a boat this size.

Belowdecks, the varnished teak interior comes complete with a convertible dinette, galley with stove and refrigerator, and enclosed head with sink and shower. Built in limited numbers, the Surfhunter 29 is available in express, convertible, or hardtop (pictured above) configurations. Most have been sold with a single sterndrive engine, gas or diesel, with a jackshaft connecting the lower unit. An outboard version became available in 2015.

7. Legacy 28 Express | Production Years 1998-2008

Legacy 28 for sale

One of the most graceful and popular pocket cruisers of recent years — over 100 were built. With a generous 9’6″ beam, the Legacy’s cockpit and helm deck combined offer seating for 8–10 passengers. Visibility from the elevated helm is excellent (note the high windshield). The side decks are on the narrow side, and a full-width bench seat aft precludes a transom door. Belowdecks, the interior is clean simple but extremely well finished.

A convertible dinette is forward, enclosed head with shower to starboard, and fully equipped galley to port — basic accommodations for a weekend getaway for two. The cabin has six feet of headroom and is finished in cherry joinery with a teak-and-holly sole. A teak swim platform was standard, and a bow thruster and teak transom was a popular option. Cruise at 22–23 knots with a single Yanmar 315hp diesel.

8. Mainship Pilot 30 Sedan | Production Years 1999-2008

Main-30-Pilot-Sedan for sale

The Hardtop version of the original Mainship 30 Pilot is known for distinctive retro styling, large cockpit, and fuel-efficient operation. Don’t look for much glitz in the Pilot—this is a basic boat with modest amenities and good-enough workmanship. The interior was originally set up with a V-berth/dinette forward, full-service galley, good-sized head, and a teak-and-holly cabin sole.

In 2003, the updated Series II Pilot featured an updated cherry interior and a revised cabin layout with a V-berth that folds in half when not in use. The Series II also incorporates a shortened keel, propeller tunnel, and larger five-blade prop. Cruise at 14–15 knots with 170hp Yanmar diesel. Series II models with a 315hp Yanmar cruise at a steady 17–18 knots (low 20s top). Mainship sold a ton of these boats.

9. Dyer 29 | Production Years 1957- 2 008

Dyer-29 for sale

Classic New England utility boat introduced in the 1950s. Offered in several variations over the years including hardtop, bass boat (above), and cuddy configurations. Durable semi-displacement hull with soft chines and prop-protecting keel offers legendary open-water handling.

Owners of these boats tolerate the tight cabin quarters and intrusive engine box while delighting in the fingertip control of the 29’s easily driven hull. (Newer models have the engine under the bridge deck which, by eliminating the engine box, results in a more open cockpit). Hull construction has remained largely unchanged over the years although the fiberglass covered plywood and solid fiberglass decks and deckhouses of early models have been replaced with modern fiberglass composites and balsa coring materials. A single 200hp diesel will cruise at 14–16 knots.

10. Eastern 27 Islander | Production Years 2013-Current

Eastern-27

From her classic Downeast lines to efficient use of deck space, the 27 Islander combines traditional styling with the popularity of outboard power. Ideal for coastal cruising, fishing, and family outings on the bay. Semi-enclosed pilothouse with sliding side windows features a two-person settee to port and open-air galley with sink and refrigerator abaft the helm.

A cushioned bench seat at the transom seats three comfortably (an aft-facing cooler seat is optional.) Cabin accommodations include a settee/V-berth with removable pedestal table forward, storage cabinet, enclosed head with shower and electric head. A mid-berth under the helm deck offers additional sleeping capacity or storage. Hull is cored above the waterline. Cruise at 20-22 knots with Yamaha 250hp bracket-mounted outboards.

Top 15 Trawlers for 2023

  • By Patrick Sciacca
  • October 13, 2023

For every shoe, there’s a foot, and for every boating enthusiast, there’s a yacht. For those individuals who like to cruise their yachts across blue water, spend months on board or voyage to remote beaches and quiet coves, a trawler yacht is the go-to vessel choice. But even within this yacht genre, there are many options. For example, there are some mighty midsize trawlers that are easily capable of transatlantic crossings for an adventurous couple, and then there are megayacht-size craft with next-level amenities that require extra crew. Some trawler-yacht builders offer significant customization and others work from a fixed options list. There are single-engine trawlers and twin-engine trawlers. One thing that is common is that these trawler yachts are designed from the ground up for yachtsmen with wanderlust in their hearts.

Top Trawlers

The following 15 trawlers are all vessels we’ve written about. They are listed in no particular order.

  • Nordhavn 96 : Built for an owner who desired to self-sufficiently while cruising the world, literally.
  • Beneteau Grand Trawler 62 : This trawler can travel nonstop for 1,000 nautical miles.
  • Kadey-Krogen 52 : This twin-engine-capable, all-oceans trawler is a solid fit for voyaging cruising couples.
  • Bering Yachts B76 : The B76 is the builder’s first fully custom trawler in this size range.
  • Ranger Tugs R-43 Command Bridge : This vessel is equally comfortable at a 7-knot stroll or an 18-knot jog.
  • Beneteau 48 Swift Trawler : Based on the builder’s Swift Trawler 47, this yacht has a resin-infused fiberglass hull.
  • Kadey-Krogen 50 Open : The 50 Open can cruise at 6 knots nonstop for 5,000 nautical miles.
  • Outer Reef 620 Trident : It has a three-stateroom layout and optional 600 hp Cummins diesels.
  • Grand Banks 60 Skylounge : This yacht is efficient across a variety of cruising speeds.
  • Krogen Express 52 : Headroom to spare, two staterooms, a chef-ready galley and long range define this trawler yacht.
  • Grand Banks 85 Skylounge : Grand Banks’ V-warp hull form makes for a level running attitude, seakindliness and long range.
  • Vicem Yachts 82 Classic : Construction is in cold-molded, strip-planked mahogany with epoxy.
  • Outer Reef 610 Motoryacht : Power on this Outer Reef is a pair of 500 hp John Deere 6090 diesels.
  • Nordhavn 59 Coastal Pilot : Did someone say this is a 20-knot Nordhavn?
  • Marlow 58E : A high level of customization and admirable performance are at the heart of the Marlow 58E.

Nordhavn 96

The Nordhavn 96 is the yacht builder’s second-largest yacht its 17-model fleet, which ranges from 41 to 120 feet length overall. (There is a new 112 on the drawing table.) The builder says the N96 is based on its earlier 86-footer with a 10-foot cockpit extension, which increases both main-deck, skylounge and below-deck volume. The N96 we reviewed was built by an owner who previously had an 86-foot Nordhavn, but with his plans for extended cruises to remote destinations, the 96 was the right size for his voyaging plans. In fact, since the owner took delivery of the boat, it has been on a continuous circumnavigation.

Quick Specifications

Beneteau Grand Trawler 62

Beneteau’s Grand Trawler 62 has 1,000-plus-mile range and 20-knot speed with twin 730 hp i6 MAN diesels . The Grand Trawler 62 is the builder’s flagship in its Trawler series, which also includes the Swift Trawler 35 , Swift Trawler 41 Sedan ,  Swift Trawler 41 Fly and Swift Trawler 48 . Small touches set the Beneteau Grand Trawler 62 apart. They include sea rails on all lockers to keep stowed food and gear in place, leather-wrapped interior handrails for security in a seaway, and leather drawer pulls like those found on larger yachts. Long-range cruising accommodations include a full-beam master stateroom aft, a forepeak VIP and twin-berth guest stateroom. A Quick X3 gyrostabilizer helps mitigate any potential rocking and rolling on rough days.

Beneteau Grand Trawler 62

Kadey-Krogen 52

The Kadey-Krogen 52 is the trawler-yacht builder’s smallest offering in its raised-pilothouse series, complete with a Portuguese Bridge. Owners can choose from either a two- or three-stateroom layout, and between a single-diesel engine or twin-diesel engines, for owners seeking redundancy. The standard engine is a 231 hp John Deere diesel. With the single-engine setup, draft is 5’5” and with twins it’s a shallower 4’6”. At 6 knots, range is an ocean-crossing 4,850 nautical miles. At 7 knots, it’s 3,300 nm. At 9 knots, it 1,700 nm. The builder states, “The entire Krogen 52 is built from only three molded pieces for maximized structural integrity. There are no additional secondary bonds or caulk joints that can inevitably cause issues. All deck and superstructures are cored and vacuum-bagged to maximize strength while minimizing weight.” Additionally, six longitudinal stringers enhance overall strength.

Kadey Krogen 52

Bering Yachts B76

Lemanja  is the first custom boat that Bering has built in this size range. The yacht is notable for its steel hull and aluminum superstructure, and for its 4,000-nautical-mile-plus range with its twin 404 hp Cummins QSL9 diesel engines. As rugged as the Bering 76 is built on the outside, it also offers homelike comforts in its skylounge inside, offering panoramic views out large windows surrounding the space. Sole-to-ceiling glass offers similar views in the open-plan salon. Accommodations are fox six guests in three staterooms with a master stateroom and two guest staterooms, plus crew accommodations. In addition to its traditional diesel engines, the B76 has a solar-rechargeable battery bank for hybrid propulsion.

Bering Yachts B76

Ranger Tugs R-43 Command Bridge

The Ranger Tugs R-43 Command Bridge is a long-distance cruiser with creature comforts. Our expert found the R-43 Command Bridge to be a solid candidate to cruise The Great Loop . We agree. Twin Volvo Penta IPS450 pod drives give the boat efficient low and high cruise speeds at 7 and 18 knots, respectively. For those that have work during their cruise, the R-43 Command bridge’s master stateroom is set up with an office with a desk. Long trips require extra stowage and a way to clean salty clothes, so on the R-43 Command Bridge there is a washer, dryer, auxiliary refrigerator/freezer and stowage under the dinette, which rises on electric rams. Voyagers who buy a R-43 Commander Bridge can opt for a Factory Delivery Experience, which is three days of instruction on Puget Sound, and includes in boat systems, handling and maintenance.

Ranger Tugs R-43 Command Bridge

Beneteau Swift Trawler 48

The Beneteau Swift Trawler 48 has a 1,300-nautical-mile range at 8 knots, but can also speed away at 26 knots if the weather goes south in a hurry. Based on the builder’s 47-footer , the three-stateroom, two-head Swift Trawler 48 has a resin-infused fiberglass hull. Power is a pair of 425 hp Cummins diesels. The main-deck layout includes a galley aft setup, which is accessible to the cockpit. There, the seating and dining area can be fully enclosed, with tracks in place for side curtains. The helmsman is kept comfortable on long passages with a bolstered, pedestal bucket-style seat with a flip-up footrest. The Swift Trawler 48 we reviewed had upgraded 12-inch Raymarine HybridTouch displays (9-inch screens are standard).

Beneteau Swift Trawler 48

Kadey-Krogen 50 Open

Designed for serious extended cruising,  Kadey-Krogen Yachts 50 Open provides owners with amenities that will enhance those longer passages. The galley is fitted with a Sub-Zero refrigerator and freezer, a four-burner Wolf range, a microwave and an optional dishwasher. Unlike in many trawlers and their traditional pilothouse design, the galley is located on the same level as the helm and salon. Belowdecks is the master stateroom amidships with two hanging lockers, 12 cabinets, additional drawers for stowage and an en suite head, shower and two sinks. Forward of the master is an office. The 50 Open’s hull has soft chines and a curved after end, much like the characteristics of a sailboat built for cruising. The result is an efficient hull form that provides a gentle landing into troughs when the sea gets a temper. This trawler can cruise at 6 knots for 5,000 nautical miles; 7 knots for 3,000 nautical miles; 8 knots for 2,100 nautical miles; and 9 knots for 1,200 nautical miles.

Kadey-Krogen 50 Open

Outer Reef 620 Trident

Outer Reef Yachts 620 Trident delivers a three-stateroom layout and optional 600 hp Cummins diesels that allow this vessel to approach a top hop of 21 knots. Cruising speed is a little over 16 knots, burning about 34 gallons of fuel per hour at 2,750 rpm. The amidships master stateroom has 6-foot-8-inch headroom, a walk-in closet and a shower enclosed in smoked glass. In the forepeak VIP stateroom, there are seven drawers, a hanging locker, a 31-inch Samsung TV and 7-foot headroom. The portside guest stateroom can convert to an office, too. The aft galley has a U-shape countertop, a three-burner electric cooktop, a Bosch microwave and a Vitrifrigo refrigerator and freezer. Cherry, walnut and oak are the available wood options.

Grand Banks 60 Skylounge

It’s obvious after a quick peek inside the Grand Banks 60 Skylounge that the  Grand Banks Yachts  trademark external DNA is retained. The deck, cabin house and skylounge are all composed of infused carbon fiber, reducing weight aloft and creating a lower center of gravity. With twin 900 hp Volvo Penta D13 diesels , the 60 Skylounge can accelerate to 31 knots and cruise at about 25 knots. The 60 Skylounge can also travel up to 2,000 nautical miles at 10 knots on a 1,530-gallon fuel tank. Twin 1,000 hp Volvo Penta IPS1200s are also available.

Grand Banks 60 Skylounge

Krogen Express 52

The Krogen Express 52 runs on twin 440 hp Yanmar diesels and can cruise at 8 knots for 1,680 nautical miles or at 16 knots for 500 nautical miles. Top hop:  22 knots. In the interior,  Krogen Express  has outfitted the 52 with a master stateroom and a guest stateroom. The former has a queen island berth, more than 7-foot headroom, hanging lockers and smaller cubbies to port and to starboard, and an en suite head with a molded fiberglass shower stall with a seat, a VacuFlush toilet and a granite countertop. A power lift elevates the berth and grants access to more stowage underneath. The Krogen Express 52’s salon has a 26-inch HD LED TV and a home-theater system, leather Stressless chairs to port and a built-in, L-shape settee to starboard. The galley boasts granite countertops, a three-burner Force 10 propane range with an oven, a refrigerator, a GE microwave oven, a deep Elkay sink and a pullout sprayer faucet. There is a Buff Ultraleather Stidd helm seat for extra comfort during long runs.

Krogen Express 52

Grand Banks 85 Skylounge

The Grand Banks 85 Skylounge comes in at more than 87 feet length overall and displaces 108,000 pounds, with a 22-plus-foot beam and an air draft of just under 26 feet. Owners can choose either a three- or four-stateroom layout. The standard motors are twin 1,000 hp Volvo Penta IPS diesels, twin 1,300 hp MAN straight-shaft diesels are optional. With the larger engines, owners can also choose an optional stern thruster, in addition to the standard bow thruster. With the IPS diesels, top speed is 26.5 knots and fuel burn is 100 gallons per hour, resulting in a range of 699 nautical miles. At a 21-knot cruise speed, fuel consumption drops to 57 gph, and range climbs to 972 nm. At a 9-knot jog, fuel burn falls to 9 gph, and the Grand Banks 85 Skylounge can cruise nonstop for about 2,500 nautical miles.

Grand Banks 85 Skylounge

Vicem 82 Classic Flybridge

The Vicem 82 Classic is a flybridge model built in cold-molded mahogany, which creates a stout hull form with reduced weight. The yacht is notable for its timeless Downeast lines and strong joiner work. For cruising enthusiasts, the Classic 82 Flybridge is powered with twin 900 hp Volvo Penta D13 diesels . The yacht has a top-end speed of 17.8 knots, and the cruising speed is 15 knots. At 9 knots, and considering a 10-percent fuel reserve, range is reportedly 1,100 nautical miles.  Accommodations three en-suite-equipped staterooms. The master stateroom is full-beam and amidships with a king-size berth is on centerline. The starboard-side guest stateroom and a forepeak VIP each have queen-size berths.

Vicem Classic 82 Flybridge

Outer Reef 610 Motoryacht

Built for an enthusiastic cruising couple after a three-year boat search, the Outer Reef Yachts 610 Motoryacht (part of the builder’s Classic series ), was customized with a fore-and-aft berth in the owners’ stateroom (as in, not athwartships), and berths rather than bunks in the smaller of two guest staterooms. This Outer Reef 610 was designed to be used as a liveaboard vessel, so the salon is not set up for dining (there are tables in the pilothouse, on the aft deck and on the bridge). A pair of swivel chairs in the salon face the built-in couch and the pop-up TV to port. The 610 is built with hand-laid fiberglass, PVC coring above the waterline, resin infusion and a vinylester barrier coat against osmosis. Power is twin 500 hp John Deere 6090 diesels turning ZF transmissions . The 610 tops out at about 13.5 knots with full tanks and 21 people aboard. The engines burn 20 gph at 1,800 rpm for 11 knots at 45 percent engine load. Those numbers should allow it to cross oceans without shortening engine life.

Nordhavn 59 Coastal Pilot

Nordhavn has long been known for its stout circumnavigation -capable craft, and the Nordhavn 59 Coastal Pilot carries on the the tradition of a beefy build with addition of…speed. Twenty-knots-plus, actually. Twin 715 hp Cummins diesel inboards and a new semidisplacement hull form  are said to be key to the performance equation. The Nordhavn 59CP has a 777-nautical-mile range at a 9.3-knot cruise, and a 255-nm range at its 20.3-knot top-end. Construction is a solid fiberglass hull bottom supported by full-length longitudinal stringers and a series of transversal supports for added backbone. High freeboard should keep the decks dry in a seaway, while rails keep the crew secure during transits. Nordhavn says the 59CP has a “CE category A unlimited offshore rating, ensuring the vessel has the seakeeping and strength capabilities to take on most serious coastal cruises up to 1,000 miles.”

Nordhavn 59 Coastal Pilot, Nordhavn

Marlow Yachts 58E

Following on the successful Marlow 57 , the Marlow 58E was started from scratch on a blank sheet of paper. The essence of the 58E is that it has better performance and more internal and external volume than her predecessor. The centerline length grew 10 inches over the 57, but the waterline length increased 16 inches and the beam widened 4 inches. If you were to examine the two boats out of the water, you would see more bell-shaped forward sections making for a soft impact with the vee’d portion. Power options start with twin 575 hp Caterpillar C9 diesels, but the 58E we got aboard had beefier twin 1,015 hp Caterpillar C18 diesels. Top speed: 27.9 knots. At 8 knots, the Marlow 58E can cruise nonstop for 1,400 nautical miles.

Frequently Asked Questions:

What is a trawler yacht?

A true trawler typically has a full-displacement hull form and robust construction to handle open-water operation, and it’s designed to operate self-sufficiently for long periods of time. They are slow-cruising vessels, but over the years, hybrid yachts called fast trawlers have emerged to offer displacement-speed operation as well as the ability to run at planing speeds when desired.

A displacement-hull form is known is for its rounded nature and deep draft. Full-displacement vessels do not plane on the water, but rather push through the water. This hull design makes displacement-hull vessels incredibly seakindly, but it also makes them relatively slow (think 5, 6, 7, 8 knots) when compared to semidisplacement- and planning-hull designs.

Is a long-range cruiser the same as a trawler?

While all trawlers are certainly long-range cruisers, not all long-range cruisers are trawlers. True trawlers will have full-displacement hull designs and not all long-range cruisers have them.

7 Small, Trailerable Pocket Trawlers for New Cruisers

small pocket trawlers

Pocket trawlers are one of the most affordable options around whether you want to embark on a major adventure like traveling the Great Loop , or you just want comfortable cruising accommodations for overnight or weekend getaways. Although far more compact in nature, they provide all the livability of larger motor yachts and cruisers . But their smaller size means they cost a lot less, and there are even some trailerable pocket cruisers out there on the market.

Which small trawlers will be the best for your needs? That’s up to you, but there’s a good chance that one of these seven small, affordable pocket trawlers will fit the bill.

Explore All Trawler Brands & Models

beneteau swift trawler 35

1. Beneteau Swift Trawler 35

The smallest trawler in Beneteau’s lineup, the Swift Trawler 35 straddles the boundaries between a full-sized trawler and what some will consider a true pocket-yacht. But with a 35’6” long hull, a 13’ beam, and a single 425 HP inboard providing the power, it’s easy for a couple to handle on their own, has minimal maintenance and operational needs, and remains relatively affordable compared to larger trawlers (base price starts at $480,200).

The benefits to going big in the world of small trawlers are obvious: more elbow room throughout the boat, better abilities to handle larger seas, and a higher level of luxury aboard. On the Beneteau Swift Trawler 35 you’ll enjoy a master stateroom with a queen berth, a second private stateroom with over-under berths, a full-sized flybridge with a settee and dinette, and a full galley, saloon, and lower helm station in the cabin.

Visit Beneteau to learn more.

cutwater c-24 couple

2. Cutwater C-24 Coupe

Starting at $136,937 the Cutwater C-24 Coupe is one of the most affordable offerings in this roundup. With a low profile, sporty looks, and zippy performance courtesy of a 250-horsepower outboard, it’s as much a pocket cruiser as a pocket trawler.

Yet it still has all the prerequisites to fit the bill: a private forward cabin, a separate mid-cabin berth under the dinette, a complete galley, and a fixed head with a holding tank. Plus, thanks to a svelte 8’6” beam, this boat is easily trailerable.

Visit Cutwater Boats to learn more.

cutwater c-28 pocket trawler

3. Cutwater C-28

Up the ante by about $50,000 and you can step into the Cutwater C-28 , which offers everything the C-24 has plus a lot more elbow room. Beam remains 8’6” and the mast can be folded down to reduce bridge clearance to 9’1” so this boat is still trailerable, too.

Power comes via a single 270 horsepower Volvo Penta D4 diesel inboard, providing a range of over 200 miles at a 25 MPH cruising speed or over 450 miles at a six-mph slow cruise. And along with the additional interior volume, this model also benefits from a large cockpit that’s perfect for casting a line or setting out deck chairs plus a transom swim platform with a boarding ladder.

marlow pilot 31 pocket trawler

4. Marlow Pilot 31

Classic looks and style are prominent on the Marlow Pilot 31 , and one glance at this pocket yacht will bring images of downeast lobster yachts and fishing trawlers to mind. But this boat has a very modern level of luxury, from the forward cabin with V-berth, settee, enclosed head compartment, and galley, to the bridgedeck and open cockpit.

A specific price is difficult to nail down since the Marlow Pilot 31 is quite customizable with options like powerplants ranging from 220 to 320 horsepower and wood-trimmed interior choices, but you can expect it to be in a competitive range with other boats of this size and nature.

Visit Marlow Pilot to learn more.

nordic tug 26 pocket trawler

5. Nordic Tug 26

Many pocket trawlers have good looks, but few can trigger the nostalgic appeal of a Nordic Tug 26 . These boats look like mini-tugs, with trawler accommodations and performance. Powered by a single 110 horsepower inboard diesel and stretching the tape to a 28’9” length overall with a 9’6” beam, the Nordic Tugs 26 features a private forward stateroom, an enclosed head compartment, a compact but complete galley, and a dinette that converts into a second berth.

It also enjoys some unique perks, like hydronic heating via the engine, Sapele-faced cabinetry, and a radar reflector located in the stack. Again, in this case pricing is variable, but you can expect to see numbers starting around the $200,000 range for new models.

Visit Nordic Tugs to learn more.

ranger tugs r-23 pocket trawler

6. Ranger Tugs R-23

While there may not be such a thing as a cheap trawler, the Ranger Tugs R-23 is the most affordable in this roundup at a list of $130,937. But it still has each and every accommodation needed for weekending aboard or even more extended stays. There’s a private forward cabin with a berth and head with shower, plus a second sleeping area incorporated underneath the dinette. The galley sits aft of the helm and has a refrigerator, sink, stove top, and microwave.

Power comes courtesy of a 200-horsepower outboard, which runs the boat up to a 22 MPH cruising speed and a top-end in the upper-30s. Plus, with an 8’6” beam this is another trailerable trawler.

Visit Ranger Tugs to learn more.

ranger tugs r-25 pocket trawler

7. Ranger Tugs R-25

The Ranger Tugs R-25 has everything found on the R-23 but in a bigger version. Pricing starts at $167,937, and the powerplant jumps up to a 250 HP outboard. This model is available in Northwest and Luxury editions; the Northwest version is appropriate for cooler climates and has a diesel forced-air furnace plus downrigger plugs and pads for chasing those salmon, while the Luxury edition features dockside air conditioning with reverse-cycle heat.

Although length is stretched to 28’5” (including the outboard) beam remains 8’6” so again, this model can be hauled down the highway to distant destinations on a trailer.

Is a Pocket Trailer Right for You?

Pocket trawlers and trailerable pocket cruisers are great choices for couples and families looking to add some adventure to their lives, and any of these seven top picks would be a good one. Where will your next cruise take you? On one of these small, affordable trawlers, the answer is just about anywhere you want to go.

Comparing Cruisers

  • By Jeff Hemmel
  • Updated: October 20, 2017

Day boating may be fun, but cruising overflows with potential. If you love it, pretty soon you’ll get what boaters call “two-foot-itis ”; it’s the need for just a little bigger boat. In fact, boat sellers love this little bug and often count on it for their next sale. Here is what three to five more feet get you, so just maybe you can buy the boat of your dreams the first time.

Comparing Cruisers

28 Feet: Bayliner 285 SB Cruising really begins with boats in the 28-foot range. They’re still small enough to be towed or stored on your property, yet big enough to overnight aboard. Bayliner’s 285 pairs a slimmed-down forward berth with a convertible Corian-tabled dinette and makes the midcabin berth an actual stateroom, meaning a real bulkhead and door, not just a curtain. That brings sleeping capacity to six, although in this size range, a couple (and maybe the kids) would truly be most comfortable for a weekend. The same holds true for living amenities, such as freshwater capacity. Cruisers in the 28-foot range offer adequate capacity for short trips, but generally not extended stays. The Bayliner 285 SB will tote 28 gallons of water.

Contact: Bayliner Knoxville, Tennessee; 360- 435-8957; bayliner.com

Class Advantage: Many stay within a beam of 8 feet 6 inches, and a 28-foot cruiser is still small enough to tow with a full-size vehicle.

Specs LOA: 28’7″ Beam: 9’11” Displacement (lb.): 8,056 Fuel Capacity: 89 gal. Max Horsepower: 380 Range at Cruising Speed: 142 nm Berths: 6

Price: $96,305 (with MerCruiser 350 Mag)

Gotta Have: Swim platform extension adds welcomed socializing space.

Comparing Cruisers

Another Option…Larson Cabrio 274 Larson opts for a more traditional V-berth, and the cozier midcabin berth is best left to the kids. The adults will likely enjoy a more comfortable night’s sleep forward. larsonboats.com

Comparing Cruisers

32 Feet: Cobalt 323 Boats in the 32-foot range, like the Cobalt 323, step up to twin engines, but they’re still mostly the familiar gasoline stern-drives, which allow you to navigate shallower waters. Twin engines make for easier docking, which is good, since a 32-footer is beyond reasonable towing size. Additional footage provides real space. Some manufacturers use it to allow a small family to weekend. Cobalt chose to make the ultimate day boat. Its expansive, single-level cockpit — featuring plush wraparound seating and a six-speaker stereo system — is complemented by a couple-friendly double berth, head and minimal galley below. Step aft and you’ve got a large swim platform, perfect for hot summer days. The 32-foot cruiser class offers excellent levels of versatility.

Contact: Cobalt Boats Neodesha, Kansas; 800-468-5764; cobaltboats.com

Class Advantage: While actual sleeping capacity isn’t much more than on a 28-footer, a larger cockpit and cabin provide more daytime fun for a larger crew.

Specs LOA: 32’10” (w/o swim platform) Beam: 10’7″ Displacement (lb.): 12,300 Fuel Capacity: 174 gal. Max Horsepower: 860 Range at Cruising Speed: 217 nm Berths: 2

Price: $266,577 (with twin MerCruiser 496 Mag MPI)

Gotta Have: Bimini enclosure provides comfort and protection, rain or shine.

Comparing Cruisers

Another Option…Rinker 310 Express Cruiser Offers some nice touches, including an aft cockpit lounge that converts to a sun pad, an optional cockpit grill and a skylight that opens up the cabin. rinkerboats.com

Comparing Cruisers

37 Feet: Four Winns V375 Cast off in a 37-foot boat, like the Four Winns V375, and you’ll be less subject to rough seas, thanks to 15,000-plus pounds of displacement and a deep-V hull, which smooths the ride. You can still get the familiar stern-drives in this size range, although it is on the cusp of the size for which pod-drives and joystick controls become common. Roominess continues to increase in the 37-foot class. Check out the expansive helm area and the adjacent cockpit in the V375. It is equipped with a refreshment center that includes a sink and a choice of either a refrigerator or ice maker and is housed under a cabana hardtop with full enclosure. The V375’s standard deck plan offers curtained enclosures. Step up to optional bulkheaded staterooms for added privacy.

Contact: Four Winns Cadillac, Michigan; 231- 775-1351; fourwinns.com

Class Advantage: Say goodbye to cramped berths. In this size range, the midcabin berth becomes a true second cabin.

Specs: LOA: 37’0″ Beam: 12’0″ Displacement (lb.): 16,500 Fuel Capacity: 230 gal. Max Horsepower: 640 Range at Cruising Speed: 210 nm Berths: 6

Price: $336,476 (with twin Volvo Penta 5.7 GXi)

Gotta Have: MerCruiser Axius or Volvo Penta sterndrive joystick for docking ease.

Comparing Cruisers

Another Option…Monterey 360SY From its racy, low-slung profile to its almost sportscarlike helm station with chrome-on-black wheel, the 360 oozes performance — and backs it up with as much as 860 hp. montereyboats.com

Comparing Cruisers

42 Feet: Regal 42 Sport Coupe This 42-foot Regal and similar cruisers in its class are your entries into the world of “big boats.” Fully enclosed helm decks become the norm, and many are diesel pod-powered boats. Generators and air-conditioners are mandatory, if not standard. Regal’s 42 also offers goodies like an electric sunroof and a walk-through from helm to foredeck. Belowdecks, Regal focuses on generously sized sleeping areas, twin heads, a separate shower stall and plenty of room in the galley. In Boating tests when equipped with twin 300 hp Volvo Penta IPS pods, it achieved a cruising speed of 28.7 mph with excellent 1.36 mpg fuel economy. The trade-off? Long gone are the days of nosing onto a beach. Of course, there’s room to carry a dinghy for that purpose.

Contact: Regal Marine Industries Orlando, Florida; 407-851-4360; regalboats.com

Class Advantage: True privacy belowdecks, thanks to twin, bulkhead-and-door staterooms and possibly even separate heads.

Specs LOA: 42’4″ Beam: 13’0″ Displacement (lb.): 19,500 Fuel Capacity: 280 gal. Max Horsepower: 700 Range at Cruising Speed: 298 nm Berths: 6

Price: $665,000 (with twin 300 hp Volvo Penta D4 turbodiesels)

Gotta Have: Electric grill in the wet bar makes your boat party central.

Comparing Cruisers

Another Option…Tiara 3900 Sovran Tiara realizes cruising is often for one couple only and responds with the single-stateroom Sovran. The added space allows for a generous galley and home-theater-style lounge. tiarayachts.com

Comparing Cruisers

45 Feet: Sea Ray 450 Sundancer Set up primarily for entertaining, the 450 Sundancer offers a master stateroom forward in an otherwise open plan that features a media room aft, which can sleep two. No doubt, cruisers in this size category begin incorporating some seriously luxurious characteristics. Take, for instance, the Japanese Shoji doors and solid-wood cabinetry throughout the 450 Sundancer. Occasional guests can draw the curtain and sleep on the convertible queen lounge. And when the party’s over, a couple heading off for the weekend will enjoy the boat’s climate-controlled, three-sided hardtop and its 70-gallon freshwater capacity. Most of all, they’ll find that an open layout like the Sundancer’s makes the boat more livable than one that has been cut up into separate cabins.

Contact: Sea Ray Knoxville, Tennessee; 800-772-6287; searay.com

Class Advantage: Many boats that are big enough to go even with the wind blowing do double duty as entertaining platforms. Open floor plans allow a party of 20 at the dock, and a cruising couple can stretch out.

Specs LOA: 45’4″ Beam: 13’2″ Displacement (lb.): 27,205 Fuel Capacity: 285 gal. Max Horsepower: 850 Range at Cruising Speed: 213 nm Berths: 6

Price: $836,029 (with twin 364 hp Cummins-MerCruiser QSB 380 Zeus)

Gotta Have: Cockpit heat/air makes helm deck a climate-controlled second salon.

Comparing Cruisers

Another Option…Formula 45 Yacht Two boats are better than one. Formula’s optional remote-controlled, hydraulic swim platform can carry a PWC for quick trips to shore — or when your crew is longing for a little playtime. formulaboats.com

Comparing Cruisers

48 Feet: Cruisers Yachts 48 Cantius At nearly 50 feet, the Cruisers 48 Cantius, and boats like it, can comfortably cruise a family for a week or a snowbirding couple for an entire season. With large staterooms (the master featuring a queen-size bed), a flatscreen-equipped salon that’s big enough to dance in, a galley that includes an upright refrigerator/ freezer and even an optional washer/dryer, the Cantius is equipped for life aboard. Heck, even this boat’s swim platform is large enough for entertaining. The engine compartment is similarly spacious, as it is in most cruisers in this size class, and it offers easy access to vital systems, with plenty of storage capacity to boot. Finally, the Cantius is a performer, attaining a top speed above 37 mph.

Contact: Cruisers Yachts Oconto, Wisconsin; 920-834-2211; cruisersyachts.com

Class Advantage: This class offers the size, interior space and amenities to hit the spot for two couples on extended cruises.

Specs LOA: 46’6″ Beam: 14’6″ Displacement (lb.): 32,000 Fuel Capacity: 400 gal. Max Horsepower: 870 Range at Cruising Speed: 315 nm Berths: 6

Price: $916,820 (with twin 435 hp Volvo Penta IPS 500)

Gotta Have: Optional hydraulic swim platform makes launching your RIB or PWC easy.

Comparing Cruisers

Another Option…Sunseeker Portofino 48 Sunseeker mixes it up, offering a double bed in the forward “VIP suite” that swings apart to form two separate, single berths. The Portofino is also offered in either open or hardtop versions. sunseeker.com

40 Best Sailboats

  • By Cruising World Editors
  • Updated: April 18, 2019

the 40 best sailboats

Sailors are certainly passionate about their boats, and if you doubt that bold statement, try posting an article dubbed “ 40 Best Sailboats ” and see what happens.

Barely had the list gone live, when one reader responded, “Where do I begin? So many glaring omissions!” Like scores of others, he listed a number of sailboats and brands that we were too stupid to think of, but unlike some, he did sign off on a somewhat upbeat note: “If it weren’t for the presence of the Bermuda 40 in Cruising World’s list, I wouldn’t even have bothered to vote.”

By vote, he means that he, like hundreds of other readers, took the time to click through to an accompanying page where we asked you to help us reshuffle our alphabetical listing of noteworthy production sailboats so that we could rank them instead by popularity. So we ask you to keep in mind that this list of the best sailboats was created by our readers.

The quest to building this list all began with such a simple question, one that’s probably been posed at one time or another in any bar where sailors meet to raise a glass or two: If you had to pick, what’re the best sailboats ever built?

In no time, a dozen or more from a variety of sailboat manufacturers were on the table and the debate was on. And so, having fun with it, we decided to put the same question to a handful of CW ‘s friends: writers and sailors and designers and builders whose opinions we value. Their favorites poured in and soon an inkling of a list began to take shape. To corral things a bit and avoid going all the way back to Joshua Slocum and his venerable Spray —Hell, to Noah and his infamous Ark —we decided to focus our concentration on production monohull sailboats, which literally opened up the sport to anyone who wanted to get out on the water. And since CW is on the verge or turning 40, we decided that would be a nice round number at which to draw the line and usher in our coming ruby anniversary.

If you enjoy scrolling through this list, which includes all types of sailboats, then perhaps you would also be interested in browsing our list of the Best Cruising Sailboats . Check it out and, of course, feel free to add your favorite boat, too. Here at Cruising World , we like nothing better than talking about boats, and it turns out, so do you.

7 Eco-Conscious Yachts That Are Changing the Future of Boating, From Zero-Carbon Catamarans to Hybrids

Pure-electric trawlers and hydrogen-powered sailing vessels sound like sci fi, but they'll be on the water soon..

Black Pearl is an eco-conscious sailing vessel signaling a new trend in yachting.

Yachting and sustainability may sound like a paradox, but we’re steadily seeing the marine world embrace eco-change. For the yachting world, there are an increasing number of ways to boat with a lower carbon imprint. From electric-diesel hybrids to zero-carbon catamarans powered by alternative fuel sources, here is a closer look at the newest eco-conscious yachts on the water—as well as several concepts that will be on the market in the next year, and a sailing vessel that helped start the emissions-reduction trend among superyachts.

Azimut Seadeck

boats like yachts

Having the world’s largest yacht builder embrace sustainability promises to exert pressure on hundreds of smaller builders around the world. When the three-model Azimut Seadeck  series is launched, the combination of complementary emissions-reducing technologies promises to be a major milestone for yachting.

“This is the most efficient yacht ever designed by Azimut,” said Federico Lantero, head of Product Design at Azimut/Benetti, at an event announcing the series. “We’ve identified the most recent technologies over the years, so we sat together said let’s raise the bar once again. Let’s push these technologies to the limits. It’s been like assembling a big puzzle.”

The Italian shipyard promises above-average efficiency at a wide range of speeds: The official estimates predict an emission reduction of 40 percent, thanks to Seadeck’s diesel-electric hybrid systems, lightweight carbon-fiber superstructure, solar panels, and other energy-absorption solutions.

Monaco-based designer Alberto Mancini, who penned the exterior, teamed up with other Italian designers Matteo Thun and Antonio Rodriguez, who completed the sleek interior design. Thun and Rodriquez infused the interior with the newest sustainable materials, including cork, which they describe as the “best alternative to teak.”

The concept of Seadeck’s large open aft section—dubbed “Fun Island,” follows the success of the extended deck of sister builder’s Benetti Oasis. That design was a game-changer in its wellness-outdoor living approach. Azimut will release the Seadeck models in the next 20 months, starting with the Seadeck 6 in early 2024.

Alva Yachts Ocean Eco 90 H2

boats like yachts

In the past couple of years, German catamaran and sailboat builder Alva Yachts has turned heads with its innovative solar catamarans.  But now it’s pushing boundaries farther with the announcement of what it’s calling “the first zero-emissions superyacht catamaran to run without fossil fuels.”

The Ocean Eco 90 H2 is a special 90-foot version of the Ocean Eco 90 series, the shipyard’s flagship model. It comes in two versions: full electric and hybrid diesel-electric. The new model is the company’s first venture into hydrogen. Dubbed a “fuel-less superyacht catamaran with wings,” the H2 was requested by an existing Alva owner. It is powered only by sustainable sources, including the sun, wind, electric energy, and hydrogen fuel cells. The company’s signature solar cells generate up to 40kWp of power while twin performance electric motors give power, with the aid of the Ayro Oceanwings wind-propulsion system.

Oceanco ‘Black Pearl’

boats like yachts

The world’s biggest sailing superyacht— Black Pearl —is also the most sustainable boat on water. Energy is saved at every turn on board the 350-foot yacht, from the HVAC system to three carbon-fiber masts, striking black DynaRig sails and aluminum superstructure that combine to make the Oceanco yacht lightweight and efficient. Controllable pitch propellers feed power back into the yacht via a pair of shaft generators providing enough power to support the yacht’s hotel load. Equipped with battery banks and a waste-heat recovery system, the gigayacht is capable of sailing across the Atlantic using only renewable energy.

Sunreef 80 Eco Marie-Joseph

boats like yachts

Formula One champion Fernando Alonso so enjoyed his Greek charter aboard the Sunreef 80 Eco Marie-Joseph last summer that he now has a Sunreef 60 Eco in build. Equipped with electric engines, Marie-Joseph is fitted with nearly 1,800 square feet of solar panels integrated into the yacht’s composite structures, including the mast, boom, superstructure and hull sides. It’s enough to generate up to 45.5kWh, which leaves the deck areas free for guest enjoyment. In addition to the yacht’s “solar skin,” the vessel also has a hydro-generation system, which recovers energy from the propellers as well as high-efficiency batteries.

Steeler 61S Electric

Designed by Vripack and built by Steeler, the 61-foot Steeler 61S Electric is a full custom electric trawler built for a liveaboard owner. Sustainable materials, such as steel, wood, leather and Flexiteek decking, give a nod to the owner’s determination to have a lighter carbon footprint—though the biggest sustainability breakthrough lies with the boat’s propulsion and slow-boating efficiency. Though equipped to run a 75kW diesel generator, the Steeler 61S Electric is also equipped with a 90kW electric motor and can run on shore power. In true Dutch style, solar panels and windmills mounted on the roof help feed the 184kWh battery pack.

Newcastle Marine ‘Safira’

When it comes to sustainability, every little bit helps. Powered by azipod drives, which provide 20 percent more efficiency than conventional shafts, the 129-foot Safira can also run on 15-percent biodiesel. The boat is fitted with LED lighting and good insulation, which allows for smaller generators and reduced fuel consumption. Environmental considerations extend to the choice of materials as well, with reclaimed oak, remnant stone and Esthec—a synthetic replacement for teak—being used for both cabinetry and exterior decks.

Rossinavi ‘No Stress’

boats like yachts

Italian designer Enrico Gobbi’s latest project comes in the form of Rossinavi’s first hybrid yacht. Delivered earlier this month, the 169-foot, full-aluminum sports yacht, No Stress , is powered by two MTU 16V diesel engines and two electric motors. In electric mode, the dual power system is managed by an artificial intelligence (AI) system that monitors fuel consumption. No Stress forms part of the Italian shipyard’s aim to develop boats with BluE technology. In addition to more environmentally-friendly cruising, the inclusion of AI means the owners “can enjoy the electric experience on board to the fullest,” said Rossinavi’s COO Federico Rossi, in a statement.

The Italian yard recently launched another hybrid-electric “BluE” concept called Infinity , a sailing yacht with an exterior by Fulvio de Simoni. The 138-footer has solar panels that can be stored so that yacht can navigate in full-electric mode for 90 percent of an average day. De Simoni also penned Rossinavi’s Sea Cat hybrid cat, which is currently under construction.

15 Boats Similar to Hinckley

Posted on Published: August 31, 2022  - Last updated: September 3, 2022

A Hincley yacht is anchored near the bay with it's owner standing near.

Over the years the Hinckley Company has developed a wonderful brand and clearly distinguished itself within the boating community. Their power line consists of multiple boats that are between 44 and 55 feet in length. Many of the Hinckleys that are now being sold on the brokerage market may be purchased at rates that are currently more cost-effective when compared to when they were brand new.

The product’s name brand, its attractiveness to a certain level of consumer, the quality of construction, and the overall classic look have all retained their appeal to a certain sector of the market. Because of this, these boats are seldom offered for sale at low costs, however, instances of this brand do sometimes come up for trading at prices that put them within reach of the value buyer.

Typically, the reason for this is the circumstances under which the seller is selling the item. Nevertheless, if you’re interested in boats that are similar to the Hinckley, the following is a list of possibilities for you to take into consideration.

1. Back Cove 34O

A brand new Back Cove 340 with it's owner onboard.

The Back Cove 34O has award-winning standards that were designed with cruising in mind. This boat combines traditional Downeast style with contemporary outboard power. The 34O, which won the award for Best Powerboat Under 35 Feet at the 2018 Newport International Boat Show, is powered by two Yamaha outboards with 300 horsepower each. These engines allow the boat to reach speeds of up to 24 knots and can go up to 214 nautical miles on a single tank of gasoline.

Belowdecks, the 34O features a split head configuration with the toilet located to the port and the separate shower stall located to the starboard. Additionally, it contains an island double cabin. On the Back Cove Yachts yacht, the main deck has a U-shaped dinette to port that provides seating for four or more guests.

The galley of the 34O has a microwave manufactured by Cuisinart, an electric cooktop by Kenyon with two burners, and a refrigerator and freezer manufactured by Vitrifrigo.

2. Picnic Boat 40

A picnic boat on the sea with beautiful sunset on the background.

Hinckley Yachts presented their first Picnic Boat more than twenty years ago. Now, after releasing two earlier versions that were both shorter than 40 feet, the boatbuilder located in Maine has built its biggest and most innovative model to yet, which is known as the Picnic Boat 40.

The yacht is propelled at a cruising speed of 30 knots by a set of twin 480-horsepower Cummins diesel engines that are linked with twin Hamilton 322 jet motors. The pins speed is 34 knots. Both the cruising speed and the peak speed may be increased to 38 knots with the addition of optional dual 550 horsepower Cummins diesels.

On the main deck on the port side, there is an L-shaped couch that has a table and a wet bar attached to it. The steering station can accommodate two people and is located up front and to the starboard. In addition, there is a companion seat that is located on the opposite side of the helm. Belowdecks, there has headroom of 6 feet 2 inches, and the dinette table slides down to make a California king berth that may be used for weekend stays or overnight stays.

3. Aquila 36

Aquila Power Catamarans launched their line with 44- and 48-footers, and now the builder’s Aquila 36 moves the brand into the midrange market for power catamaran yachts.

The 36 has a single main living space that spans from bow to stern, which is made possible in part by the boat’s beam of 14 feet and 7 inches. Up to 20 people may have a good time on the water thanks to the boat’s comfortable seating. The Aquila 36 may be equipped with any one of a number of different Mercury Verado engines, including twin four-strokes with 250, 300, or 350 horsepower. The Aquila can reach its maximum speed of 37 knots when equipped with the 350s.

Other amenities of note include a smokeless grill, a dinette, a stove, a refrigerator, and a sink. The roof is made of fiberglass and has a hardtop. Belowdecks, there are two bedrooms, each of which has almost queen-size beds, en suite heads, with headroom that is 6 feet, 6 inches tall.

A front view MJM 43z yacht going full speed in the sea,

The MJM 43z is an outboard-powered express cruiser that measures 40 feet or more and was developed by MJM Yachts in response to client demand for such a vessel.

The Mercury Verado outboards on the 43z each provide 350 horsepower, which allows the boat to attain a peak speed of approximately 43 knots. The vessel has motorized trim tabs by Lectrotab, an entertainment system by Fusion, a toilet by VacuFlush, a freezer by Indel Webasto, and a mattress made of memory foam as standard equipment.

The 43z only has a single cabin, but it has headroom of 6 feet and 6 inches. The table in the salon, together with the sofas, may be converted into a double bed for overnight visitors.

5. Back Cove 32

A Back Cove 32 motor yacht sailing in the Elizabeth river in the North Virginia.

The Back Cove 32 may be powered by either a 370-horsepower Volvo Penta D6 or an optional 375-horsepower Cummins QSB diesel (standard). When equipped with Cummins, the 32 is capable of reaching high speeds of over 25 knots. The Stazo wood-grain steering wheel and the Stidd helm seat will be awaiting the arrival of the ship’s helmsmen on the starboard side of the vessel.

This Back Cove Yachts yacht has a stateroom that is paneled in American cherry and has a separate head and shower in addition to a queen-size bed located belowdecks.

6. X40 Express

A luxury X40 Express drifting on the sea at full speed.

The X40 Express , which Reliant Yachts refers to as the “contemporary version of an express cruiser,” has an axe bow, a sheerline with a straight edge, diesel propulsion, and is versatile enough to perform well either as a pocket cruiser or as a megayacht tender.

The X40 Express is capable of reaching a peak speed of 43 knots thanks to its two Cummins QSB 6.7 diesel engines, each of which produces 480 horsepower and is mated to Konrad 660B sterndrives. There is a toilet and a shower that are located belowdecks, in addition to a bunk that may be used for overnight stays.

7. 45 Divergence

Side view angle of the luxurious 45 divergence yacht sailing at the sea.

Ocean Alexander Yachts, a constructor of motor yachts and megayachts, has entered the market for dayboats with the introduction of the 45 Divergence .

The beam of the boat is increased from 13 feet 9 inches to 19 feet 1-inch thanks to the foldout balconies that are installed in the cockpit of the 45 model. In the end, the 45 has enough room for eight people to sit comfortably: three on the fold-down transom seat, three more aft-facing chairs crosswise, and two extra loose seats. The 45 is driven by four Verado outboards, each rated at 350 horsepower.

8. 350 Realm

A group of friends on a vacation with their 2020 model Boston Whaler 350 Realm.

The Boston Whaler 350 Realm is a boat that can do a variety of tasks, including fishing, entertaining guests, diving, and overnight cruise. In addition to that, it is quick. It is driven by either triple Mercury Verados with 300 horsepower or triple Mercury Verados with 350 horsepower. The maximum speed that the 350 Realm is capable of reaching is 46 knots.

Two Raymarine screens give crucial navigational information to the captain when he is at the helm. From a helm seat that is double-wide, the skipper is able to take in the view of the screens. When it’s necessary to stand, there’s a platform that can be lowered, and when it’s not, it may be used as a footrest.

A brand new luxurious MJM 35z being anchored in a calm sea.

The MJM 35z , which is manufactured by MJM Yachts, is equipped with twin outboard motors that each have a maximum power output of 300 horsepower. These outboards allow the boat to attain a peak speed of 44 knots and a cruising speed of 33 knots. In addition, the fuel tank of the 35z, which holds 250 gallons, allows it to cruise up to 304 nautical miles.

The configuration of the deck of the 35z is flush, and there is room to port for a baitwell, an electric grill, a sink, an ice maker, and a refrigerator. There are two Stidd helm seats, one of which is designed for the helmsman and the other of which is designed for a copilot. Both of these chairs may swivel to face the rest of the seating located at the rear of the vessel.

There is V-shaped seating at the front of the cabin that may be made into a bed for passengers. In addition, owners have the option of installing a Seakeeper 3 gyrostabilizer and a full-length Bimini top to cover the cockpit and provide shade.

10. E26 Classic

A brand new Cranchi E26 classic in display at Nautic show and boat exibition in Belgrade, Serbia.

Cranchi Yachts has successfully combined a classic appearance with a contemporary and athletic one in their E26 Classic model. The design of the E26 was influenced in part by yacht designer Christian Grande, who has previously held positions at Sacs Marine, Sanlorenzo Yachts, and Invictus Yachts.

The contrast between the traditional look of the teak foredeck and the modern appearance of the wraparound windscreen, which can be opened to provide access to the foredeck, is striking. The decor of the ship, which includes the furnishings, has a lively red hue that contributes to its athletic appearance.

The captain’s seat and the companion seat both rotate so that they may face the guests who are sitting on the L-shaped sofa in the aft cabin. There is a folding table in the port area, and there is also a Bimini top that can be folded away. One of the staterooms below decks is a forepeak cabin. It has a partial head, a sunroof, and side windows that let in natural light and make the area seem brighter.

Back sideview angle of a Greenline Yachts Neo sailing in the sea.

The Greenline Yachts Neo , which is 36 feet long and powered by solar energy, is designed with the utmost attention to comfort and relaxation in mind. The Neo can reach a maximum speed of 16 knots thanks to its standard twin electric Torqeedo outboards.

This maximum speed, however, may be increased to 45 knots with the addition of two optional Mercury engines that each have 300 horsepower. The boat is equipped with a range extender that enables it to go around 5 knots for approximately 180 nautical miles.

The Neo, which was created with assistance from J&J Design, has space for a maximum of 14 people. A lounge with a table/ sun pad can be found on the bow of the main deck, and there is a wet bar in the cockpit of the vessel.

12. Titian Tender

A classy and luxurious Titian Tender by Cockwell yacht spotted anchored in a clear seawater.

Cockwells created the Titian Tender based on an idea that was first conceived by RWD. Cullum Bespoke was responsible for designing her decor. The Titian Tender may have beautiful joinery, but she is about much more than simply her good looks.

One of the most recent models produced by Cockwells is capable of reaching a high speed of 38 knots thanks to its pair of 370 hp Yanmar 8LV engines. In addition, the vessel can accommodate up to eight guests in a relaxed manner when traveling.

Raymarine electronics and a double-wide helm seat may be found at the control station of the vessel. Seating for two additional may be found just next to this area. A retractable electric Bimini top is also included with the purchase of a Titian Tender.

Passengers will find a U-shaped sofa, a dedicated compartment for a toilet, a sink, a single electric burner, and storage upon entering the climate-controlled cabin. In addition, there will be storage.

13. Greenline 39

The backview of the luxurious Greenline 39 yacht with it's classic modern interior.

Greenline Yachts’ boats are well called since they provide an ecologically friendly mode of transportation, and the Greenline 39 is not an exception to this rule. The Slovenian yacht maker creates two variations of this boat, one that uses solar power and another that uses hybrid power.

If the owners choose the second option, the vessel’s four solar panels, which are located on top of the salon, are able to power all of the vessel’s systems for a period of three hours. The 39 is capable of reaching a maximum speed of 6.5 knots as well as a cruising speed of 4 knots when it is propelled by the power of the sun.

The hybrid version makes use of the very same solar panels to assist in the powering of a 220-horsepower Volvo Penta D3 that is equipped with a Mahle electric-drive system. The owner has the option of upgrading to a Yanmar 8LV diesel with 370 horsepower in place of the base engine.

14. Sabre 40 Sedan; 42 Salon

A front view angle of the Sabre 40 Sedan with a couple driving the yacht.

One of the most popular yachts produced by Sabre, the 40 Sedan combines traditional Downeast design with cutting-edge building techniques to create one of the company’s most successful models. Sabre was one of the first Downeast manufacturers to make use of efficient pod drive technology.

This is a characteristic that has a lot to do with the yacht’s lasting appeal, and it was one of the reasons why Sabre was one of the first. The 42 Salon is the ideal boat for traveling and entertaining guests due to its big cockpit, enclosed pilothouse that doubles as a salon, and layout that has two roomy staterooms.

In the salon, there is a dinette, a step-down galley that is open to the salon, a side-by-side pair of Stidd chairs, and an L-shaped sofa with an inlaid table. It’s a great touch that the door at the steering wheel can open. A complete head and shower are located to port, while a guest stateroom that may double as an office is located to starboard.

Diesel with 380 horsepower from Cummins and Zeus pod drives allow for a cruising speed of 24–25 knots. This boat is also available with a flybridge and is called the Sabre 42 FB Sedan.

15. Grand Banks 43 Eastbay SX/HX (Single and Double)

Front view of the Grand Banks 43 sailing on the sea.

An evergreen design that is without a doubt among the most well-liked Downeast boats in this particular class. The 43 Eastbay is more than simply a gorgeous yacht; her gleaming beauty makes her stand out in each port you visit. She is supported by a Hunt-designed modified deep-V hull, which enables her to travel at high speeds while offering an extraordinary level of open-water comfort.

The magnificent teak workmanship seen throughout her cabin is unrivaled. The Eastbay’s almost ideal use of space results in a sizable cockpit, a roomy helm deck, a sizable salon (in the SX version), and a galley below, along with two cabins and a big head with a stall shower. All of these areas are accessible from the cockpit. Because of her adaptability, she is well suited for day sailing, weekend getaways, or long cruising with a family or a couple.

Because there is no hatch, the salon and the helm are both exposed to the lower deck as of the year 2006. Yanmar 440hp diesels travel at 24–25 knots (high 20s top). The addition of a fish box and a hardtop has been a popular choice. The engine box in the cockpit may be utilized as a seating area., and the hull of the Fortier is completely cored.

Alaska Boats & Their Captains

Alaska and its boats are inseparable. When I visit and work in small villages in Alaska, I often associate the people I meet with their dogs and boats. Alaska Boats

Alaska is defined as much by its pristine lands as by its seas.  While many visitors arrive via plane in Anchorage, many more reach Alaska on its ferry system from Washington, on one of the countless cruise ships, or working onboard the massive fleet of commercial fishing vessels and tenders.  Alaska and its boats are as inseparable as Alaskans and their Xtratuff boots.

I’ve spent years working on board commercial fishing boats and science research vessels worldwide, but most of my sea time has been on Alaska’s boats.  I am fond of the older wood-hulled trollers , but I’ve spent a reasonable amount of time just kicking around the southeast in a simple skiff.

When it comes to Alaska and its boats, Alaska truly has everything , commercial gill netters, large fishing tenders, trawlers, cruise ships, science research vessels, yachts, skiffs, sailboats, and kayaks.  Alaska and many of its people are culturally, economically, and geographically bonded to its waters and the boats needed to access them.  Alaskans and their boats are similar to most people in the lower 48 with their vehicles.

This article will explore the varieties of boats you can see in Alaska, the history of boating in Alaska, what it means to the local economy, and what kind of access you can have to these remarkable vessels.

Not all boats are created equal. Like any nautical community, many boat types exist in any Alaska harbor. We will look at the three major types of boats you’ll see in Alaska and then dive deeper into the subcategories of those ships. The three main types of boats you will find in Alaska are commercial fishing boats , yachts , and cruise ships .

Alaskan Commercial Fishing Boats

The Alaska fishing fleet is one of America’s great treasures , and their salmon fishery is one of the world’s most incredible resources and should be protected, cherished, and respected . The small independent fishermen working their asses off in hundred-year-old wooden boats keeping these traditions alive are truly amazing. They have become one of the iconic elements of the Last Frontier.

There are many different types of fishing boats in Alaska. Here is a list of the most common fishing boats in Alaska. Learn the different styles of commercial fishing and what their boats look like, so you can sound like a local next time you’re on the dock.

Trawlers / Seiners

Fishing trawlers are designed to drag a trawl, or large net, through the water, usually in deep water, catching bottom-dwelling species like shrimp and groundfish. Not to be confused with trolling, which is done with poles. Seiners also deploy a net, called a purse seine, to scoop up a large area of fish within the net, tightening it and enclosing the fish in the net before hauling it back on board.

I haven’t seen many longliners operating in the parts of Alaska I work, but most are larger vessels, usually 50-100 feet, with a covered stern area.

Longliners are designed to deploy a fishing line, frequently miles long, with numerous baited hooks attached at regular intervals. The baited hooks typically target deep-sea species such as halibut, blackcod, lingcod, and rockfish . The line has a bouy attached to both ends and is usually left to soak for 24 hours. When it’s time to retrieve the line, a power wench brings it in on side rollers.

Gillnetters

I spent a month on a gillnet boat in Bristol Bay a few summers back while filming a show documenting the salmon fishery. The experience was eye-opening, for sure. The small crew often worked 18 hours straight, catching an insane amount of sockeye. It’s one of the most impressive things I’ve ever seen. While the boat was rather small for the five of us onboard, we ate well and had plenty of good times.

A gillnet boat traditionally has a hydraulic-powered drum on the back deck (there are bow-pickers with drums on the bow). The drum is used to deploy and retrieve a gillnet, a net designed to capture fish by ensnaring them by the gills. These boats are usually crewed by two or more people, a captain, and at least one picker on the back deck.

These boats can be seen all over Alaska fishing for salmon but have been made famous by the Bristol Bay fishery. The month in Bristol Bay was a wild ride involving fishermen shooting shotguns at each other and captains purposely running over their competitor’s nets, destroying them and inevitably leading to a confrontation.

Trolling boats are pretty iconic in Southeast Alaska . They’re very identifiable when their trolling polls are out, creating a unique silhouette on the ocean. These slow-moving boats drag their fishing lines with baited hooks or lures through the water while powering through it, drawing the fish’s attention to bite, typically targeting salmon.

The boats are slow, usually cramped, and old, but god damn, are they majestic. The trollers are a unique breed of devoted anglers, the quintessential Alaskan commercial fisherman.

Most of America is familiar with crab boats, made infamous by the Discovery show Deadliest Catch. These steel-hulled work boats, outfitted with hydraulic pot haulers, are docked at many Alaska harbors. Most famously in Dutch Harbor. These boats are large vessels outfitted with a sizable crew compared to trollers and gillnetters.

I’ve spent a fair amount of time on these boats. On board a retired retrofitted crab boat, I did multiple expeditions researching great white sharks. These boats are workhorses capable of traversing the earth at slow reliable speeds. Their design typically has the wheelhouse on the stern with a large open deck, starboard, and port side cranes.

I’ve spent many nights sitting on my porch in Southeast Alaska, watching the yachts go by. These pleasure crafts come in all shapes and sizes, some are practical, and others are obscenely luxurious. Most are personal yachts owned and operated by individuals, while others are fully crewed private cruise ships. Believe it or not you can acutally charter many of these gems if you have the cash .

Alaskan Cruise Ship Boats

Disclaimer: I HAVE NEVER TRAVELLED ON A CRUISE SHIP

I’m not opposed to the idea. I’ve just never had the opportunity. That could change someday, and I’m open to trying new things. The only time I’ve ever been on board a cruise ship was when I was documenting people fleeing Beirut during the 2006 war, I spent half an hour on board photographing the chaos of a mass evacuation during aerial bombings for a news agency.

So, not your typical cruise experience. What I did learn during my brief visit was that these boats are incredible , the size and function of them are indeed an astonishing human feat, and my curiosity makes me hope to board more of them in the future.

Pacific Coast Steamship Co. of San Francisco began offering cruises from San Francisco to Alaska in the 1880s , so cruise line culture has been part of Alaska for over a century. Most tourists visiting the great state of Alaska will do so on a cruise ship. Countless cruises are going up and down the Alaska coastline at any given moment. Some of these ships boast having as many as 20,000 passengers . The giant boats are floating cities, creeping past small Alaskan villages that often have populations under 100.

Large Cruise Ship Operators

There are dozens of large cruise companies offering a variety of vessels to make your Alaska cruise ship experience a reality. Someday we will write an in-depth article on Alaska cruises, but until we have the opportunity to have that experience, we will hold off on writing that article. Here is a list of three major Cruise operators in Alaska.

The superyacht world is speculating that Mark Zuckerberg just bought this 118-meter boat

  • The 118-meter superyacht Launchpad made her maiden voyage last week.
  • The yacht world is speculating that her owner is Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg.
  • Here's what we know about the luxury vessel.

Insider Today

In the world of superyachts , privacy is the most valuable asset. It can be next to impossible to discern the details of a superyacht transaction — and that's particularly true if the vessel in question is worth nine figures.

Yet some in the boat blogging world are speculating that Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg is the new owner of Launchpad, a megayacht currently moored in Fort Lauderdale, Florida after she made her maiden voyage from Gibraltar to St Maarten last week. Launchpad clocks in at 118 meters long, about nine meters shorter than Jeff Bezos' superyacht Koru .

The transaction could not be confirmed, with yacht world insiders declining to share what they know and representatives for Zuckerberg not responding to a request for comment from Business Insider. In the past, reports about Zuckerberg owning superyacht Ulysses have proven false.

Related stories

"It is Feadship's standard policy to never divulge any information about our yachts with reference to ownership, costs, or delivery, etc," Feadship, the ship's builder, wrote to BI. "Whether it is an 18-meter Feadship from the 1960s or a 118-meter Feadship from the 21st century, we do not share private information."

But Zuckerberg's name has been connected to Launchpad for a few months now, beginning in December when reports swirled that he visited Feadship's shipyard in the Netherlands.

Then, earlier in March, yachting bloggers like eSysman SuperYachts and Autoevolution started speculating that he officially snagged the boat, originally built for a sanctioned Russian businessman, at a $300 million price tag. (While that's a seemingly huge amount, it's still less than 0.2% of Zuckerberg's $177 billion net worth.)

Another clue that might point to US ownership is that the yacht bears the flag of the Marshall Islands, a US territory and commonplace for American buyers to register their ships, according to public marine tracking.

If Zuckerberg were to have bought Launchpad, he would join a cohort of superyacht-owning tech billionaires . Along with Bezos, the likes of Oracle cofounder Larry Ellison and Google cofounders Sergey Brin and Larry Page have purchased impressive boats with even more impressive amenities.

SuperYacht Times , an industry publication and intelligence platform, has some of the best images of the yacht. Photos show a swimming pool on her main deck and a large helipad.

While less is known of the interior, a vessel of her size can likely sleep dozens of guests and crew and may have amenities like an expansive gym where Zuckerberg could practice his jiu-jitsu or a spa with a massage area. We suspect there's also space for plenty of toys — which could include his viral hydrofoil foil .

South Africa: boat captain missing , search begins

South Africa: boat captain missing , search begins

South Africa

South African authorities searching for a missing charter boat captain are concerned about possible foul play after they discovered his vessel burned and abandoned on a beach in neighbouring Mozambique, but no sign of him or the unknown man who hired him.

The National Sea Rescue Institute raised the alarm over captain John Matambu and his passenger after they didn't return to Sodwana Bay on South Africa's northeastern coast on Saturday evening having gone out early that morning.

The charred wreck of Matambu's speed boat, Magnum Too, was discovered by a search plane on Sunday in the Dobela area of Mozambique, some 170 kilometers (105 miles) up the coast.

"Both men remain missing in unknown circumstances," the National Sea Rescue Institute said.

Matambu's cousin told local media that a petrol canister and a medical kit were found near the boat.

The NSRI said some of the circumstances "appear to indicate that foul play may be involved."

The man who hired Matambu to take him out on the 21-foot (6.4-meter) boat apparently gave false contact details, NSRI spokesperson Craig Lambinon said. The booking was made for a man, his wife and a child, but only the man boarded the boat, Lambinon said.

"Hopes are that this has all been a misunderstanding, and foul play was not involved, but at this stage all possibilities are being examined," Lambinon told national broadcaster SABC. "The fact that the boat has been found across the border is obviously the difficulty now."

The NSRI received a report that the boat was spotted at 10 p.m. Saturday night heading north toward Mozambican waters, it said, the last sighting before its charred hull was discovered the following day.

The Police Sea Borderline Control agency and the Police Search and Rescue unit are also involved in the search. Authorities described Matambu as a well-known, experienced and respected boat captain in Sodwana Bay.

8 Yacht Clubs and Marinas in the Philippines to Moor Your Boat In

Yacht Clubs and Marinas

FoodfindsAsia.com | 8 Yacht Clubs and Marinas in the Philippines to Moor Your Boat In | Filipinos’ history as a maritime people date back to prehistoric times. In fact, the Philippines’ basic sociopolitical unit today, the barangay, traces its etymological origins to the balangay , the ancient outrigger boats that were used by precolonial Filipino communities to explore and conquer islands this side of the Pacific. As a people belonging to a seafaring culture, it’s no wonder that modern Filipinos are taking a retrospective look at their glorious past as Austronesian mariners and are developing a renewed love for the ocean and marinas as present-day yachtsmen.

Today, Philippine marinas look to accommodate more and more yachts and other pleasure watercrafts as the years go by. In 2017, an ASEAN Briefing op-ed piece named the Philippines as a country with high potential in yacht industry growth. The natural beauty of the Philippine islands and its fantastic bays, combined with a growing interest in leisurely sea travel, can explain the spike in yachting activities throughout the country.

Are you part of the demographic that’s become enamored of the yachting lifestyle? Do you want to know where in the country you can berth your watercraft? Leading sailboat and motorboat authority Europa Yachts is happy to enter the conversation, and recommends the following locations for discovering the Philippines through yachting. Here is a short list of clubs and marinas in the country, organized by island region.

Manila Yacht Club and Marina, Manila, Metro Manila

Established in 1927, the Manila Yacht Club and Marina is one of the oldest yacht clubs in all of Asia, and is nestled in the scenic Manila Bay. It is also near other well-known landmarks in the city, such as the Cultural Center of the Philippines (CCP), the headquarters of the Philippine Navy, and the US Embassy. Facilities in the marina include a launching ramp and a fueling center, and the club itself is host to a restaurant and gorgeous function rooms. The Manila Yacht Club only welcomes visitors who arrive by boat, and it charges an initial security deposit of USD 750 upon arrival. Club membership is mandatory for medium and long-term mooring of boats.

Subic Bay Yacht Club, Zambales

The Subic Bay Yacht Club, which was founded in 1998, upholds itself as the country’s premier yacht club. It operates in the deepest bay in the country, and can host vessels well beyond 50 meters in length. Already benefitting from the innate beauty of the Zambales mountains surrounding it, the club hosts a number of other attractions, including its luxury accommodations, swimming pools, and its own movie theater, bowling alley, and nightclub. Those who venture outside of the club’s premises can also shop for well-priced imported goods at the Subic Freeport Zone, engage in water sports , or sign up for diving excursions.

Punta Fuego Yacht Club, Batangas

Peaceful Punta Fuego is a mecca for those who love the sport of sailing. As per its official website, the Punta Fuego Yacht Club aims to serve “a dynamic and vibrant community of boat enthusiasts and yacht owners.” This it does by playing host to a diverse population of watercrafts, from large catamarans and mono-hull yachts to small boats. Non-members of the club may use the berths for up to 3 weeks, and can refuel at the marina’s fueling station. The yacht club offers other amenities such as locker rooms, shower rooms, Internet facilities, a chart room, and a restaurant called Barracuda Bar, which serves delicious fares. Outside of the yachting crowd, Punta Fuego Yacht Club also caters to those wishing to celebrate weddings, conferences, and corporate events in their opulent quarters.

Puerto Galera Yacht Club, Oriental Mindoro

Further south, yachtsmen may moor at the Puerto Galera Yacht Club in Oriental Mindoro, an island location that’s home to tourist attractions like the Sabang Wreck dive site, lively beachfront resorts, and the Malasimbo Music Festival. Puerto Galera Yacht Club has been in operation for almost thirty years and lends services such as refueling provisions and yacht repairs from its marina. Boat owners also enjoy optimal convenience if mooring here, as they can also shop for spare parts in the nearby Batangas port.

Busuanga Yacht Club, Puerta del Sol Bay Marina, Palawan

Beautiful Palawan is a bucket-list destination for many, especially those who dream of cruising its crystalline waters. Accommodating the yachting community in this island province is the Busuanga Yacht Club, which promises secure mooring amidst breathtaking white-sand beaches. Here, each vessel will benefit from a typhoon-safe harbor, easy refueling, and direct access to transportation hubs like the New Busuanga Airport. Adjoining this marina is the Puerta del Sol Bay Resort, which offers luxurious accommodations to visitors. When not atop the deck of a boat, travelers can also explore the lagoons and freshwater lakes of Coron, go shipwreck diving, or relax in the hot springs of Maquinit.

Iloilo Sailing Club, Arevelo, Iloilo City, Iloilo

Iloilo Province is home to some of the country’s most beautiful old-world architecture, a flourishing ecotourism industry, and delectably fresh seafood cuisine. What will round off an unforgettable visit to Iloilo, however, is an excursion to the Iloilo Sailing Club on a leisure watercraft. The club accepts visitors and encourages membership in the case of medium and long-stay mooring. It also hosts a number of amenities and activities, including a dinghy storage, a beach bar and restaurant, and classes for those who want to learn about sailing. In recent months, the Iloilo Sailing Club has also been a convenient meet-up point for big maritime events, such as the Iloilo-Guimaras Paraw Regatta and the Seafarers’ Job Fair.

Cebu Yacht Club, Mactan Island, Cebu

The historic Mactan Island in Cebu was the site of Portuguese explorer Ferdinand Magellan’s arrival in the Philippines. Now known as a commercial hub that hosts a prolific furniture and musical instruments industries, Mactan is also the location of the Cebu Yacht Club, an institution that is beloved by the locals. Aside from being an ideal spot to restock on much-needed fuel and supplies, the Cebu Yacht Club is also a trusted club to commission for boat repairs. There’s a good vibe in this club for everybody, as it sports both luxury accommodations and a waterfront strip of restaurants that laid-back diners can frequent. MINDANAO

Holiday Oceanview Marina, Samal Island, Davao del Norte

The Holiday Oceanview Marina is a major attraction of Samal Island in Davao del Norte Province, one that welcomes Filipino and foreign yachtsmen alike to moor within its premises. The space is quite roomy, in fact, with 56 berths that can fit vessels up to 15 meters in length. The club also has a boat ramp that can accommodate boats up to 18 meters in length. The well-guarded and weather-safe marina is a gateway to some of Mindanao’s finest attractions, such as the Pearl Farm, Hagimit Falls, and Giant Clam Sanctuary.

There’s no better way to discover the Philippines from end to end than getting onboard a seaworthy vessel and going on a long cruise, with stops in some of the most beautiful places in the country. Find a safe harbor in any of these major clubs and marinas, and participate in the renaissance of sailing in the Philippines.

River Cruise on Luxurious Radisson Boat

Equipped with ice-breaking technology, these huge fancy yachts are the only river cruisers running all year around. The round trip journey takes two and a half hours and floats past all the big sights like the White House, Novodevichy monastery and the Kremlin. There’s a large open air observation deck up top, while the main body of the ship houses a restaurant with a dance floor for a romantic post dinner dance. For a particularly romantic experience take one of the evening boats and admire the bright lights of the city skyline at night.

The most relaxing and picturesque tour that Moscow can offer: a great way to see the city center and its main attractions. This is a perfect alternative to exploring the city by car, if you only have time to do sightseeing during weekday rush hours.

Your English-speaking guide is eager to share every bit of their knowledge about the surrounding landscape, the architecture and historical details.

We conduct Moscow river tour on Radisson Flotilla boats all year around!  It’s warm inside during winter months, while there’s air conditioning during hot summer days. You may also treat yourself to drinks, lunch or dinner on board (drinks and food are not included in tour price).
