In early June 2022, an online advertisement claimed, " Tom Brady 's New Yacht Is Bigger Than the Titanic ." However, this was little more than misleading clickbait.

An online advertisement said that Tom Brady's New Yacht Is Bigger Than the Titanic.

At the time that we reviewed this ad, Brady , a seven-time Super Bowl champion , was the quarterback for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in the National Football League ( NFL ).

We clicked the ad about Brady owning a yacht bigger than the Titanic . It led to a 43-page slideshow article on YourDIY.com. Brady appeared on page 35 . However, the page said nothing of Brady owning a yacht bigger than the Titanic . It simply said that Brady owned a Wajer 55 S yacht, which he named Viva a Viva . It measured 55 feet (17 meters) long.

Brady later upgraded to a Wajer 77 model yacht that measured 77 feet (23 meters) long.

By comparison, the Titanic measured more than 882 feet (269 meters) long. The Titanic was more than eleven times larger in length than Brady's Wajer 77, and that's before getting into the obvious disparities in width and height. (The voyage of the Titanic ended in April 1912. Its sinking led to the deaths of around 1,500 people.)

Had Brady purchased a boat that truly was bigger than the Titanic , it would have been major news across the world. We're not ship experts, but one can only imagine the cost of building, delivering, and managing a yacht that's larger than the Titanic . According to a few articles that we found online that provided the estimated cost of building large cruise ships (potentially more than $1 billion), even someone as famous and successful as Brady didn't appear to have enough money to build one. Several websites that showed up in Google search results provided an unofficial and unverified estimate of Brady's net worth (supposedly around $250 to $400 million), which is far less than large cruise ship construction estimates.

This wasn't the first time that Brady was featured in a misleading online ad about owning an expensive mode of transportation. In 2021, we looked at an ad that claimed , "Tom Brady's Private Jet Was a Gift from Whom?" While it's true that Brady has traveled on private jets, there's no evidence that he ever received one as a gift. The clickbait ad led to a story that never mentioned anything of anyone buying one for Brady's family.

In sum, no, Brady did not own a yacht that was bigger than the Titanic . Our explanation below details why these kinds of ads lead to lengthy slideshow articles.

Tom Brady is arguably one of the greatest quarterbacks in NFL history. He cemented his legacy by playing for 20 years with the New England Patriots before joining the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in 2020. And as a Buccaneer, shouldn’t the man have a suitable yacht ? Of course! Let’s take a look at the details about Tom’s yacht, a Wajer 77 model that he named Viva La Vida, to see how much it cost and what makes it so interesting. 

How Big is Tom Brady’s Yacht?

Brady’s yacht clocks in at 77-feet which does make it on the smaller end of some of the luxury yachts that other celebrities and millionaires own. Consider that Jess Bezos’s high-priced yacht Y721 cost $500 million and it is over 400 feet long. That dwarfs Brady’s clearly, but this boat is no joke. The vessel has a maximum capacity of 20 passengers, with sleeping space for 9, so it’s well equipped for being a party boat assuming Tom’s down for taking friends out on the water.

Is Tom Brady’s Yacht Bigger Than the Titanic?

Yes, this is a weird question but if you know why someone might ask it, it gets a little less weird. Still weird, but less weird. 

For reasons unknown there was an online ad/clickbait post that was going around in the summer of 2022 that showed a picture of a really exotic looking yacht with the title “Tom Brady’s New Yacht is Bigger Than the Titanic.”

For the record, the Titanic was 269 meters long or just over 882 feet. There is no yacht in the world that big and, to be fair, the Titanic was no yacht. The RMS Titanic was a luxury steamship, what most people would call an ocean liner or cruise ship today. It was completely different from a yacht.

The biggest yacht in the world today is called the Azzam and it is just under 600 feet long. As you can see, Brady’s 77 foot yacht is decidedly smaller than the Titanic in pretty much every way.

The ad was just weird clickbait and Brady appeared to have never made such a silly claim. But the ad seems to have worked enough that a number of people now search for the details. In fact, if you Google “Tom Brady” plus “yacht” plus “Titanic” you get a whopping 138,000 results. So set your mind at ease, his boat is nothing like the Titanic.

Who Made Tom Brady’s Yacht?

Brady’s yacht is a Wajer 77 yacht made by Wajer yachts. Based out of the Netherlands, Wajer is known for its luxury yachts and they take an approach that is more what you’d expect from a luxury car maker like Ferrari or Lamborghini than a boatmaker. 

The company is a family owned business that started in 1992 and today they’re renowned for making some of the fastest yachts in their class, as well as some of the most luxurious. They use something called the Volvo Penta Inboard Propulsion System which is an engine system that claims to give you 20% more speed at 40% less fuel. They have won some awards as well, so they seem to be able to back up those claims.

Brady actually owned an older, smaller model, the Wajer 55S, which was about $2 million when he bought it back in the day. Word is that Brady really loved the yacht and is apparently loyal to his brand so he upgraded when the opportunity arose to get a bit bigger boat. 

How Much Did Tom Brady Pay for his Yacht?

Rumor has it that Brady spent an impressive $6 million on his yacht. At 77-feet, that makes it a very high priced craft. Compare that to something like the Lamborghini 63 yacht which is, of course, 14 feet shorter and costs about $3.5 million.

In terms of added costs, the fuel alone for Brady’s yacht is probably going to set him back around $135,000 per year though that will obviously fluctuate depending on how often he chooses to use the yacht. Of course, with a crew to keep the yacht working and other expenses it’s believed his yearly operating cost for the boat is going to be about $600,000.

These are relatively new models, and the first Wajer 77 only hit the water in August of 2021. They had pre sold 15 models earlier in the year and Brady was one of the buyers. The 77 is the biggest yacht Wajer has ever made.

The price for a Wajer 77 starts at €5.25million which is nearly the same in US dollars so it’s possible Brady decided to add a few custom items onto his build to jack up the price by about $750,000. The upholstery, hull and color scheme are all customizable so Brady likely had a lot of options when he made his choice.

Brady is believed to have a personal fortune of about $250 million, so the $6 million he spent on the yacht was just a drop in the bucket.

Wajer says the Wajer 77 yacht is able to hit an impressive 37 knots , which is pretty incredible for a yacht of this size. Definitely shows off the prowess of that Volvo Penta engines it has inside. The standard model, and it’s unclear if Brady tweaked his at all, comes with three Volvo Penta IPS 1200 D13-900 HP engines. 

It also boasts a range of 400 nautical miles with a 4,800 liter fuel tank, which isn’t too bad for a yacht of this size, either. Fuel consumption is listed at 300 liters per hour at 26 knots. 

What Does Tom Brady’s Yacht Interior Look Like?

Let’s start with some general specs here since the company offers those up for the Wajer 77 right on their site. Obviously the vessel is 77 feet long but it also boasts a 19 foot beam.

In the center of the boat is a 16’5″ wide master suite. There’s also a junior suite in the bow that features a double bed and beyond that is the port-side guest cabin. This one has a queen-size and a single bed. 

Elsewhere you’ll find the crew cabin which has room for 2 and also has a separate private entrance. Each of these cabins have ensuite bathrooms that are all designed to limit sound transmission. There’s also a fully equipped galley and even a coffee bar.

The yacht is able to carry Seabobs, jet surfboards, a Williams 325 Jet Tender and it also has space for diving equipment and a Jet Ski.

What Else Does Tom Brady’s Yacht Feature?

For the price you’d expect Wajer to include some cool features and they really do. In addition to the fun and luxury stuff,  there’s a lot of features that just make the yacht itself a standout in the world of boats. For instance:

  • There’s deck cooling technology to keep you from getting scorched on a sunny day
  • An adjustable deck layout that lets you pick how you want your yacht to look rather than choosing a single design. No word on which layout Brady chose.
  • An automatic Targa roof
  • There’s even a hybrid fender system , which automatically inflates the fenders when you need them and deflates them for easy storage. Maybe not as cool as a hot tub, but still a great feature.

Does Brady’s Yacht Have Anything to do With The New England Patriots?

Despite the fact that Tom Brady rose to fame as part of the New England Patriots and he’ll likely be associated with them for the rest of his life, he actually bought this vessel when he was a Tampa Bay Buccaneer. It’s his own personal yacht and has nothing to do with the NFL or any of the teams he’s played for.

The Bottom Line

The Super Bowl champ was quoted as saying the Wajer 77 yacht he purchased was well suited for what he and his family needs. He wanted a yacht to be able to take him down to the Bahamas on weekend trips when the mood arose and the $6 million yacht definitely fit the bill. He said he wanted to spend more weekends and day trips with the family since he lives in Florida ont he east coast and can easily scoot down to the Bahamas in his yacht when he has a day or two free.

With tons of custom and luxury features as well as powerful engines that give the yacht the power to hit 37 knots it’s an amazing boat that also has a lot of fun features for Brady, his family and any guests they choose to bring along.

Thanks to its massive size, Icon of the Seas can hold three times as many people as the Titanic.

Modern cruise ships have around 15 decks, with 13 accessible to passengers. While Icon of the Seas has 20 decks, with 18 passenger decks.

The Titanic, built in 1912, had an estimated price tag of $7.5 million, equating to around $400 million in today’s dollars.

That may sound like a lot of money, but it pales compared to how much it costs to build a cruise ship .

An average-sized cruise ship costs around $1 billion to build. According to Royal Caribbean, the construction costs for Icon of the Seas are estimated at $2 billion.

Cruise Fares on Titanic Compared to Cruise Ship

Tickets to sail on the Titanic were not cheap. In 1912, a third-class ticket on the Titanic cost 7 pounds ($35), while a first-class suite cost 870 pounds ($4,000).

Adjusted for inflation, it would’ve cost 850 pounds ($1,071) for a third-class ticket and 105,000 pounds ($133,132) for a first-class suite.

I was surprised to learn that when adjusted for inflation, tickets to sail on the Titanic are similar to modern cruise ship fares.

While you can find 7-night cruise fares below $420 per person, tickets to sail on a new cruise ship are around $750 to $1,000 per person. The price of a suite on a modern ship is much lower than Titanic’s first-class cabins, at about $25,000 for a 7-night itinerary.

Cabin Comparison

Perhaps the most striking difference between the Titanic and modern cruise, apart from the sheer difference in size, is the quality of cabins and the range of activities and entertainment.

Passengers on the Titanic were divided into first, second, and third-class statuses based on wealth.

In total, Titanic featured approximately 350 first-class staterooms. The luxurious staterooms could be used for second-class passengers if needed.

The Titanic didn’t have any balcony cabins.

First-class cabins were the epitome of luxury on the Titanic. With about 905 passenger spots, first-class staterooms offer ornate decorations and lavish furniture. First-class guests could also access exclusive amenities such as the Parisian café, grand staircase, elegant dining areas, and spacious lounges.

Despite their luxury accommodation, many first-class passengers shared communal bathroom facilities. Additionally, freshwater aboard the vessel was scarce, meaning guests of all classes bathed in seawater.

Because of the limited freshwater, there was no laundry service aboard the Titanic. However, first-class passengers had their linens changed daily.

On the other hand, second-class staterooms provided a relatively comfortable experience with small cabins and basic decor. The rooms were more modest than the first-class cabins but provided a comfortable stay for middle-class passengers.

Second-class passengers slept on bunk beds, with two or four cabins per stateroom. Bunk beds are still standard on cruise ships , especially in family-sized staterooms.

Finally, the third class comprised the largest group of passengers with an estimated capacity of 974. Third-class cabins were more congested, with passengers sharing space in bunk-style accommodations. Despite the simpler living conditions, travelers in this class still enjoyed a decent level of service.

Like the Titanic, today’s cruise ships model their cabins after high-end hotels. Fortunately for today’s cruise ship passengers, every stateroom has a full bathroom, air-conditioning, TVs, and even private balconies.

Modern cruise ships provide far more choices in cabin styles, including interior, ocean view, balcony, and suite accommodations.

Although passengers are no longer divided into classes, many cruise ships offer added benefits to guests staying in higher-priced staterooms and suites. These benefits may include access to a VIP lounge, show reservations, exclusive discounts, and more.

So maybe things aren’t so different after all.

Activities and Entertainment

There was very little formal entertainment onboard the Titanic. The ship’s entertainment consisted of an eight-man orchestra for the upper classes and a piano in the first-class dining room.

First-class passengers also had access to an indoor swimming pool and Turkish bath.

Passengers in the lower classes weren’t provided with any entertainment. Third-class passengers had access to the poop deck on deck B, a recreational space.

Fortunately, Titanic offered some onboard activities to keep passengers occupied. The ship had a squash court, smoking room, lounge, Turkish bath, steam room, pool, and gymnasium.

By comparison, the ships offered by modern cruise lines are basically floating resorts. Modern cruise ships boast numerous entertainment facilities, including multiple swimming pools, a spa, rock-climbing walls, ice-skating rinks, zip lines, and surf simulators.

Cruise ships also host live performances in grand theaters and smaller, more intimate venues that might cater to specific musical or comedic tastes.

The scope and scale of activities on modern cruise ships have expanded significantly since the Titanic’s maiden voyage.

Passengers on today’s cruise ships enjoy an extensive range of options, ensuring entertainment choices suit virtually every preference and age group. The level of luxury and comfort available on modern cruises ensures passengers have a memorable and indulgent experience while on vacation.

Dining Comparison

A la Carte Restaurant on the Titanic

The Titanic had four onboard restaurants: A la Carte Restaurant, the Dining Saloon, the Verandah Cafe, and the Cafe Parisien.

A la Carte Restaurant was exclusive to first-class passengers. The restaurant is one of the earliest examples of extra-cost dining on a cruise ship. It was smaller than the main dining room but styled with elegant French decor.

Like specialty restaurants on modern cruise ships, there was an added fee to eat at the A la Carte Restaurant. The food consisted of “caviar, lobster, quail from Egypt, plovers’ eggs, and hothouse grapes and fresh peaches.”

The Dining Saloon was the equivalent of today’s main dining room. Passengers had assigned seating arrangements, and food was only served at specific times.

The Verandah Cafe and the Cafe Parisian were located near the promenade and offered a more intimate and casual dining experience.

Although cruise ship food has historically had a bad reputation, modern cruise lines have greatly improved the dining experience. Nearly every cruise line has fine dining experiences and dozens of onboard restaurants.

Virgin Voyages has eliminated buffets and the main dining room in favor of over 20 restaurants, each with a unique menu and dining experience. They’ve even enlisted the help of Michelin-starred chefs to create outstanding meals for passengers.

Safety Precautions It’sarison

It’s no secret that the Titanic didn’t have enough lifeboats for everyone. The ship was equipped with 20 lifeboats carrying up to 1,178 people, less than half the vessel’s capacity.

Surprisingly, the ship had enough space to carry many more lifeboats, which would be stored on the top deck. However, the ship’s operator decided that the added lifeboats would give the vessel a cluttered appearance and removed the lifeboats to preserve the Titanic’s luxury aesthetic.

The vessel was outfitted with approximately 3,500 cork-filled life jackets and 48 life rings. Unfortunately, they were of little use at the time of the disaster, given the temperature of the North Atlantic Ocean and the quick onset of hypothermia.

One significant change that has occurred is regulating the number of lifeboats onboard.

Today, modern cruise ships must have sufficient lifeboats and life-saving equipment for all passengers and crew on board, as mandated by the International Convention for the Safety of Life at Sea (SOLAS).

SOLAS is a set of international safety regulations established in response to the Titanic catastrophe to ensure maritime safety. These regulations encompass not only lifeboats but also emergency procedures, safety features, and robust design requirements.

Compliance with SOLAS is crucial for any cruise ship, and regular inspections are conducted to verify adherence.

One key safety measure now prioritized on cruise ships is the lifeboat drill.

The Titanic’s captain, Edward Smith, canceled the scheduled lifeboat drill the day the ship encountered the iceberg. In contrast, modern cruise ships routinely conduct lifeboat drills shortly after embarkation, familiarizing passengers with evacuation procedures and mustering points in the event of an emergency.

If you’ve been on a cruise ship, you’re familiar with the muster drill all guests must perform on embarkation day. It’s the law that the drill must be performed by every passenger prior to sailing to enhance emergency preparedness.

Additionally, modern ships have a suite of safety features to avoid disasters before they even occur. Advanced radar detection systems, fire suppression systems, advancements in steering technology, and more help make today’s cruise ships safer than ever.

While it is impossible to guarantee absolute safety, advancements in building methods, safety technology, and crew training have made disasters such as the Titanic rare.

The RMS Titanic was an ocean liner that sank in 1912 after hitting an iceberg on its maiden voyage across the Atlantic Ocean.

Although many people consider the Titanic to be a cruise ship, the Titanic is actually an ocean liner .

It’s an important distinction.

Ocean liners serve the primary purpose of transporting passengers or goods from one destination to another. Unlike cruise ships which are often a destination in and of themselves, ocean liners serve as a means of transportation.

The Titanic’s operator, White Star Line, designed the Titanic to be both luxurious and comfortable to distinguish the ship from its competitors.

White Star Line’s biggest competitor, Cunard Line, focused on making its ships faster. Cunard Line prided itself on how fast it could transport passengers across the Atlantic.

White Star Line hoped that making their ships more comfortable for passengers would help differentiate themselves and attract more guests.

Ocean liners like the Titanic are all but a thing of the past.

Only one ocean liner is still in service; the Queen Mary 2 . This famous luxury ship has a top speed of 30 knots, compared to the average cruising speed of a cruise ship at 18-22 knots .

How Fast was the Titanic Compared to a Modern Cruise Ship?

The Titanic had a cruising speed of only 21 knots (39 kilometers per hour, 24 miles per hour) and could achieve a top speed of 24 knots (44 kilometers per hour, 28 miles per hour).

Ocean liners, like the Titanic, were built for speed and luxury to make regularly scheduled crossings.

The Titanic was powered by two four-cylinder triple-expansion steam engines as well as a low-pressure Parsons turbine.

Modern cruise ships have nearly the same maximum speed as the Titanic!

Compared to Titanic’s maximum speed, the Oasis of the Seas’ top speed is 24.5 knots , while 2020’s Mardi Gras ‘ is around 23 knots.

But that’s okay because cruise ships aren’t designed to be fast.

Unlike ocean liners which travel long distances over periods of days, cruise ships don’t usually require fast speeds as they typically travel short distances between ports over the span of days.

I think itś funny how everyone thinks that Titanic is just another ship. And now everyone thinks that the new ships are the gods of the seas. I mean yes there have been bigger and better ships built since the Titanic, but no ship will ever be as luxurious as the Titanic. Even though she’s sitting 2 1/2 miles under the water, she is always going to be the most beautiful ship ever built by the hand of humanity.

I’ve got to admit that I love the design of new cruise ships, but there’s something about the Titanic’s luxury and elegance that modern cruise ships simply cannot match. Cunard Line is the closest there is to traditional luxury sailing.

This Nuclear-Powered Superyacht Is Longer Than the Titanic and Costs $700 Million

A nuclear-powered gigayacht longer than the Titanic, with 22 state-of-the art laboratories and a 13-story “science sphere,” might sound like the floating headquarters of a criminal mastermind. But Earth 300 is actually a revolutionary exploration vessel designed to investigate climate change and other challenges that face our planet. Designed by naval architect Iván Salas Jefferson, founder of Iddes Yachts, the 300-meter vessel has a radically aerodynamic look. It’s been envisioned as an “extreme technology platform,” incorporating robotics, AI, and quantum computing to attract the best and brightest minds from a wealth of fields. A Davos on water, if you will.

Such a bold vision doesn’t come cheap—right now the price tag for the ship, being constructed by Polish naval architecture firm NED, hovers between $500 and $700 million. Designed to resemble Earth, the orb’s “science city” will house top climate scientists, who will use the ship’s state-of-the-art tech to develop innovative solutions.

“We wanted to create a design that would inspire,” Salas Jefferson said in a statement. “When one looks at the sphere, we want them to be inspired to protect Earth. When one walks into the sphere, now housing the science city, and feels the action of all the ongoing scientific works, we want them to be inspired to become an alchemist of global solutions.”

Measuring 150 feet at its widest—almost the length of a football field—the sleek ship includes an extraordinary observation deck on the bow, a foredeck helipad to transport passengers to and from the vessel, and a selection of advanced underwater expedition vehicles for deep-sea exploration.

“The ship will introduce features found on cruise, expedition, research, and luxury yachts, but she will be none of them,” said Aaron Olivera, Earth 300 ’s chief executive. “We wanted to build the Olympic torch of global science, to expand our knowledge and understanding of the universe, both above and below the ocean’s surface.”

The project’s list of backers is impressive and includes IBM, Triton Submarines, EYOS Expeditions, and RINA, an international leader in maritime safety. TerraPower, the nuclear innovation company founded by Bill Gates, devised the technology for the onboard molten-salt reactor, which will provide zero-emissions energy.

Expected to launch in 2025, Earth 300 will have room for a complement of 160 scientists from a variety of disciplines, as well as 165 crew members and dozens of experts-in-residences and student researchers.

There will also be spots for 40 VIP guests, who will pay $3 million each for the privilege. That’s more than 10 times the cost of a seat on Virgin Galactic. With so many looking spaceward, why develop a cutting-edge seafaring vessel?

“The oceans are dying,” Salas Jefferson told Architectural Digest . “Having been born in Palma de Mallorca, I’ve seen it firsthand in the Mediterranean. Now is the time to reboot, reconnect, and redirect our planet’s destiny. Our oceans keep us—and our planet—alive, and Earth 300 ’s mission is to protect our oceans and ensure their health for generations to come.” Space may be the future, Salas Jefferson says, but “today, Earth is our only home.”

It’s five times bigger than the Titanic

People have been left stunned by the size of the world’s largest cruise ship as it prepares for its maiden voyage.

The appropriately named Icon of the Seas is due to set sail from Miami on January 27.

Going by gross tonnage, which is a measure of a ship’s volume, the cruise liner clocks in at a staggering 248,663, making it the largest in the world.

With a length of 364.75 metres, it is also longer than the previous longest Oasis Class cruise liners.

This is almost 100 metres longer than the Titanic (269.1 metres), whilst the ship’s gross tonnage is more than five times that of the Titanic (46,328).

However, Icon of the Seas isn’t the longest ship ever built, with that honour going to Seawise Giant, an oil tanker which measured 458.46 metres.

When it sets sail, the Icon will have almost 10,000 people on board, made up of 2,350 crew and a maximum of 7,600 passengers.

The ship will travel to the coasts of the Bahamas, Mexico, St. Maarten and Honduras for seven night Eastern and Western Caribbean vacations when she launches at the end of this month.

On board, passengers won’t run out of things to do in a hurry, with a giant waterpark, an AquaDome, an entertainment zone, over 40 dining options, a surf simulator, a mini-golf course, sports court, a rock climbing area and even an ice rink.

There are also 28 different types of accommodation spread across 20 decks.

Other features include an on-board ‘beach club’ with a suspended infinity pool, and an aquadome at the front of the vessel.

There are also seven pools on the ship, including Royal Bay, which is said to be the largest pool at sea.

And it has six record-breaking slides as well, including the Frightening Bolt, which is the tallest waterslide to sail, and the Pressure Drop, which is the first open freefall waterslide on a cruise.

Icon of the Seas will also be the first ship to be powered by liquefied natural gas (LNG) and fuel cell technology. Using technology such as shore power connection and waste heat recovery systems, Royal Caribbean claim that the vessel will be their most sustainable ship to date.

Reacting to clips of the cruise ship on social media, people couldn’t get over the sheer size of the vessel.

One person wrote: “Always heard how amazing it is jumbo jets fly, but it seems crazier that cruise ships don’t tip over.”

Another said: “It’s like floating high rise apartment building… surreal”

Someone else commented: “Holy cr*p Icon of the Seas makes the other mega ships its sailing past look so small in comparison.”

“Icon of the Seas is CRAZY,” a fourth added.

Cruise ships are quite a marmite holiday as it is, and plenty of people voiced their horror at Icon of the Seas as well.

“Floating norovirus hellscape,” one person wrote, with another labelling it a “floating petri dish.”

Someone else commented: “For anyone who says that hell doesn’t exist…”

And another wrote that it looks like the “least relaxing vacation ever.”

The world’s largest cruise ship is almost here to fulfil all your ocean holibob fantasies .

(Pssst…it’s five times the size of the Titanic , and it has a waterfall in it!)

Designed by Royal Caribbean Cruises, the Icon of the Seas was sailed for the first time as part of a four-day sea trial in Finland, where the ship was first constructed at the Meyer Turku shipyard.

Ahead of its formal arrival in January 2024, the trials were operated by a team of 450 specialists and four tugboats. The tests proved promising, with a second set scheduled to ‘push Icon to its limits later this year’.

Welcoming 5,610 guests (or a maximum of 7,600 guests) and employing 2,350 crew, the ship comes in at an impressive 1,198 feet or 365 metres long.

By comparison, the famous Titanic – which was the largest ship afloat during her maiden voyage in 1912 – measured 269 metres.

Icon of the Seas will arrive in January 2024

The Icon of the Seas will debut in Miami, introducing a new era for holidaymakers in combining theme parks, beach escapes, fine dining and entertainment, sailing 7-night cruises across the Eastern and Western Caribbean year-round.

There are different packages, depending on your budget. The cheapest starts at £1,482 per person for a seven-night stay in an interior cabin in September 2024.

Or, if you’ve got cash to splash, you can opt for a suite. Prices for the latter vary wildly, depending on the dates you select. At the time of writing, a seven-night suite stay in September 2024 will cost you £2,694 per person. But in March 2024, the same package shoots up to £6,041.

Marketed as the ‘largest waterpark at sea’, the ship has a record-breaking six waterslides, from the aptly named ‘Frightening Bolt’ to the ‘Pressure Drop’, the first open, freefall waterslide on a cruise.

Seven pools and nine whirlpools can be found on Icon of the Seas

This cruise ship doesn’t skimp on swimming pools, either: there are seven pools and nine whirlpools, enough for every possible mood, with a range of infinity edges that’ll leave you feeling at one with the ocean.

That’s not all: passengers will get the opportunity to hop across some of the most beautiful islands in the Caribbean, including The Bahamas, Cozumel, Mexico, Philipsburg, St. Maarten, Roatan and Honduras.

The Icon will also be accompanied by her sister ship, Utopia of the Seas, scheduled for her debut later in 2024. Consider us sold.

Palm Beach International Boat Show

For superyacht shoppers, the Palm Beach International Boat Show, kicking off its four-day run this week, is set to break records with more than 60 yachts over 100 feet long on display. Last year was also a banner year for superyachts at the show. 

Headliners will include the likes of the 295-foot Corsair Nero ,  the 278-foot Victorious by AKYacht, the 230-foot Turquoise-built Talisman C , and 213-foot Benetti Triumph among brokerage yachts, and in new yachts, the 113-foot Ocean Alexander Puro 35 is making its world debut.  

There are so many gleaming white vessels over 100 feet, in fact, that the fleet will be split between the Palm Harbor Marina at the main show site on the downtown West Palm Beach waterfront and the Safe Harbor Rybovich Marina two miles north. 

Now in its 42nd year, PBIBS will also showcase hundreds of models of dayboats, cruisers, and fishing boats, as well as marine accessories. Running from this Thursday through Sunday, the show coincides with the Palm Beach Modern + Contemporary art show, a fortuitous opportunity for yacht owners wanting to add new art to their collections.

Here are 10 must-see boats at this year’s show.

Corsair Yachts ‘Nero’

is a yacht bigger than the titanic

The undisputed star of this year’s Palm Beach show? That would be the 295-foot, classically styled superyacht Nero , built in 2007 and inspired by American financier J.P. Morgan’s legendary 1930s steamer Corsair IV . Nero ‘s attendance at PBIBS marks its return to the charter market after an extensive refit in 2021. Now better than new, the boat is being managed by Burgess. With weekly charter rates from $497,000, the vessel offers five-star accommodations for 12 guests in six cabins, with pampering from a crew of 20. Part of the refit included a full interior refresh by Italian interior designer Laura Pomponi, plus a major focus on wellness. That meant the construction of a new, state-of-the-art gym and spa, the assistance of a certified onboard trainer, a masseuse and beautician. After PBIBS, Nero will spend the winter in the Caribbean before returning to the Med for the summer season.

Ocean Alexander Puro 35P

Ocean Alexander is debuting the first of its new Puro superyacht series at PBIBS. The 113-foot Puro 35P comes from the drawing board of Italian designer Giorgio M. Cassetta and is a step back from the polarizing lines of OA’s recent Revolution and Explorer series with their bold, vertical bow designs. Aimed at long-distance cruising, the 35P can carry over 5,000 gallons of fuel and is powered by twin 2,000 hp MAN V12s for a 24-knot top speed. Twin 55kW Kohler generators can also keep the yacht powered at anchor for long periods. Other standout features include extensive glazing in the chiseled fiberglass hull, a forward deck plunge pool, and spacious accommodations for 10 guests.

Think of it as the “starter” Sirena. Aimed at a younger demographic, the Turkish builder’s brand-new Sirena 48 is making its U.S. debut at PBIBS after a global reveal at last fall’s Cannes boat show. Such is its appeal that 27 hulls have already been sold, with 13 of the orders coming from North America. Looking like a scaled-down version of Sirena’s popular 58, its distinctive, trawler-style lines are from Argentinian designer Germán Frers. With more interior space than a typical 48-footer, the yacht offers three staterooms—plus a crew cabin—a spacious, light-filled salon, a large cockpit, an oversized flybridge, and a vast forward social area. Take your pick from twin 550 hp Cummins QSB, or 670 hp Volvo D11 turbo diesels. Or the builder is also offering hybrid power with twin 285 hp electric motors charged up by variable-speed generators that are good for a 30-mile battery-only range.

Feadship ‘Olympus’

Picture purchasing a classic 180-foot Feadship superyacht, and then getting a $10 million bill for a major refit. That was the case with Olympus , built by the Dutch masters at Feadship in 1996 to a design by Britain’s Andrew Winch and the celebrated naval architect Frits De Voogt. Sold in 2022, the new owner sent it to the Monaco Marine refit center in La Ciotat, France for a major makeover. It included overhauling the 2,600 hp Caterpillar engines and generators, repairs to the structure, substantial upgrades to the guest areas and crew quarters, and new paint throughout. With the work completed just last year, the vessel is said to be in mint condition. Offered jointly by brokers Fraser and Edmiston, Olympus has an asking price of $28.5 million. With accommodations for 16 guests in eight cabins, the boat’s highlights include two primary suites, tropical-spec air conditioning, and Palm Beach-chic decor.

Benetti ‘Triumph’

Italian yachting powerhouse Benetti is showing off its superyacht-building skills with the 213-foot Triumph . Delivered in 2021, this Giorgio M. Fjord 39 XP/XL

The 39 XP and XL keep all the bold design cues of the bigger Fjord 41 XP and XL, like a big, open cockpit, walkaround center console, vertical bow, mile-high windshield and stretched hardtop. Turquoise ‘Talisman C’

Cascading down the central spiral staircase of the Turkish-built, 231-foot superyacht Talisman C , this jaw-dropping piece of art comprises an array of multi-colored glass balls threaded on stainless-steel rods and illuminated by hanging fiber-optic strands. It’s the creation of Prague-based Crystal Caviar and is one of a number of glass installations on this sleek, low-profile superyacht. Built in 2011 by the Proteksan Turquoise shipyard, Talisman C was designed inside and out by London-based studio H2 Yacht Design, with naval architecture by Italy’s Hydro Tec. With cabins for 12 guests, one of its highlights is a huge primary suite, which boasts more crystal chandeliers and a private library. Twin 2,447 hp Caterpillar diesels give a top speed of 18 knots and a transatlantic range of 7,000 nautical miles at 12 knots. It’s listed with Burgess for $59.9 million. 

Sanlorenzo 44 ‘Kamakasa’

Delivered in 2020 and sold to a new buyer just last August, the 146-foot Sanlorenzo 44 Alloy Kamakasa will be for sale at PBIBS. The asking price, through the Italian Yacht Group, is $23.75 million. Lack of use might also be the issue here; the yacht’s twin 2,600 hp MTU V16 diesels have a mere 289 hours on the clock. Built in aluminum to a design by Rome-based Zuccon International Project, Kamakasa was the second hull in the Sanlorenzo 44 Alloy series. One of the top features is a primary suite that spans three levels and almost 1,600 square feet; it also comes with a private Jacuzzi, separate bathrooms, a walk-in closet, and a private study. The yacht’s lightweight construction and MTU power combine to deliver an impressive 20-knot top speed.

Bahama 41 GT2

The exterior design of this Heesen was by Omega Architects, while Dutch studio Van Oossanen did the naval architecture. The yacht is part of Heesen’s fast cruising series, which is more efficient than other vessels its size, and can reach 23 knots at full speed with its MTU 16V 4000 M65L engines. The yacht is listed through Ocean Independence for 42 million Euro, or about $45.7 million.

Titanic expedition might get green light after company says it will not retrieve artifacts

The U.S. government could end its legal fight against a planned expedition to the Titanic , which has sparked concerns that it would violate a law that treats the wreck as a gravesite .

Kent Porter, an assistant U.S. attorney, told a federal judge in Virginia Wednesday that the U.S. is seeking more information on revised plans for the May expedition, which have been significantly scaled back. Porter said the U.S. has not determined whether the new plans would break the law.

RMS Titanic Inc., the Georgia company that owns the salvage rights to the wreck, originally planned to take images inside the ocean liner's severed hull and to retrieve artifacts from the debris field. RMST also said it would possibly recover free-standing objects inside the Titanic, including the room where the sinking ship had broadcast its distress signals .

The U.S. filed a legal challenge to the expedition in August, citing a 2017 federal law and a pact with Great Britain to treat the site as a memorial . More than 1,500 people died when the Titanic struck an iceberg and sank in 1912.

The U.S. argued last year that entering the Titanic - or physically altering or disturbing the wreck - is regulated by the law and agreement. Among the government's concerns is the possible disturbance of artifacts and any human remains that may still exist on the North Atlantic seabed.

In October, RMST said it had significantly pared down its dive plans. That's because its director of underwater research, Paul-Henri Nargeolet, died in the implosion of the Titan submersible near the Titanic shipwreck in June.

The Titan was operated by a separate company, OceanGate , to which Nargeolet was lending expertise. Nargeolet was supposed to lead this year's expedition by RMST.

RMST stated in a court filing last month that it now plans to send an uncrewed submersible to the wreck site and will only take external images of the ship.

"The company will not come into contact with the wreck," RMST stated, adding that it "will not attempt any artifact recovery or penetration imaging."

RMST has recovered and conserved thousands of Titanic artifacts, which millions of people have seen through its exhibits in the U.S. and overseas. The company was granted the salvage rights to the shipwreck in 1994 by the U.S. District Court in Norfolk, Virginia.

U. S. District Judge Rebecca Beach Smith is the maritime jurist who presides over Titanic salvage matters. She said during Wednesday's hearing that the U.S. government's case would raise serious legal questions if it continues, while the consequences could be wide-ranging.

Congress is allowed to modify maritime law, Smith said in reference to the U.S. regulating entry into the sunken Titanic. But the judge questioned whether Congress can strip courts of their own admiralty jurisdiction over a  shipwreck , something that has centuries of legal precedent.

In 2020, Smithgave RMST permission to retrieve and exhibit the radio that had broadcast the Titanic's distress calls. The expedition would have involved entering the Titanic and cutting into it.

The U.S. government filed an official legal challenge against that expedition, citing the law and pact with Britain. But the legal battle never played out. RMST indefinitely delayed those plans because of the coronavirus pandemic.

Smith noted Wednesday that time may be running out for expeditions inside the Titanic. The ship is rapidly deteriorating .

"Personal stories down there"

Last year, new images of the Titanic developed using deep sea mapping revealed unprecedented views of the shipwreck.

The scan was carried out in 2022 by Magellan Ltd, a deep-sea mapping company, in partnership with Atlantic Productions, a London-based company that was making a film about the project.

The scan provides a three-dimensional view of the wreckage in its entirety, enabling the ship once known as  "unsinkable"  to be seen as if the water has been drained away. 

In the debris surrounding the ship, lies miscellaneous items including ornate metalwork from the ship, statues and unopened champagne bottles.

There are also personal possessions, including dozens of shoes.

"I felt there was something much bigger here that we could get from the Titanic," Anthony Geffen, the CEO of Atlantic Production, told CBS News last year. "If we could scan it, if we could capture in all its detail… we could find out how it sank and how the different parts of the boat fell apart and we can find a lot of personal stories down there as well."

Historic U.S. Ship - Bigger Than the Titanic - on Brink of Eviction After 25 Years Docked at Pennsylvania Pier

A historic vessel once regarded as "America's Flagship" is on the brink of eviction after more than 25 years at a pier in Pennsylvania , where it reportedly costs $1,700 to be docked each day.

The SS United States — which is more than 100 feet longer than The Titanic — once hosted iconic celebrity passengers and was hailed as the fastest ocean liner to conquer the Atlantic , Knewz.com has learned.

The ship's remarkable speed earned it the coveted Blue Riband award from Great Britain upon its maiden voyage in 1952. Partially sponsored by the U.S. government during the Cold War era, it was designed as a potential rapid troop carrier if geopolitical tensions escalated, according to the website for the SS United States Conservancy, the nonprofit organization that has overseen the vessel since 2011.

Despite its high level of regard and rich history , the ship faces an uncertain future as it languishes at Pier 82 in south Philadelphia . Its retirement has been fraught with challenges, including the recent threat of eviction due to a lawsuit from Pier 82's landlord, Penn Warehousing, according to an NPR report on Monday, March 11.

The lawsuit alleges the SS United States Conservancy owes between $700,000 and $800,000 in back rent, Warren Jones, one of the conservancy's board members, told the radio station. He said the organization entered into the agreement more than a decade ago, and during the pandemic , the rent was unjustly doubled.

"The rental agreement that they wrote and presented to us had no provision in it for escalating the rent and it even had no time limit on the lease as well," Jones said.

Both parties presented their arguments before a federal judge , leaving the fate of the ship in legal limbo. But even if the ship is allowed to stay at Pier 82, the conservancy believes it will need a new home.

"She's ready to bust a move," the head of the conservancy, Susan Gibbs, told NPR. "She's been here long enough; she's ready to go to the next port of call."

A multimillion-dollar redevelopment project has been in the works that would return the SS United States to its original base in New York , but plans are not set in stone and the conservancy must act fast.

"There are a number of different possibilities, and we are open to any of them at this point," Gibbs said. "Time is of the essence."

She said the organization was also open to the idea of docking the ship in Florida or on the West Coast, as well as keeping it in Philadelphia.

The vessel's physical condition, worn by signs of its 72-year journey, underscores the need for action. Gibbs and her peers remain optimistic, however, that the iconic seafarer can be restored.

"What's encouraging is that despite the peeling paint and the rust that we see as we are walking down the halls of the ship , she is still structurally sound," Gibbs said.

"The hull of the ship has been inspected over and over and over again at various points, and all the reports come back and it's in remarkable good shape," Jones added. "You just feel the solid structure of the ship as you walk these decks."

Jones also noted the ship's potential for transformation into a vibrant entertainment and hospitality hub.

However, with eviction looming, the conservancy has issued a plea to President Joe Biden and congressional leaders to push for the preservation of the maritime icon, according to NPR.
