Saba 50, for Performance and Comfort

The SABA 50 was one of the first models, after the Helia 44, to benefit from the latest Fountaine Pajot innovations.

The sailing performance remains a priority for Fountaine Pajot catamarans. Additionally, comfort has greatly improved with many features which are demanded nowadays by long-term sailors.

Accommodation is optimised with spacious and ligh-filled cabins. The saloon is wide and practical, with a convertible sofa area and a convenient galley. The whole boat offers plenty of storage throughout.

Circulation is made easy between the different parts of the boat, allowing crew to get quickly and easily from and to the cockpit, the flybridge, the helm station or the foredeck.

Relaxation areas

The flybdridge communicates directly with the helm station and is quickly accessible from the cockpit. It comfortably welcomes guets with large sofas and sunbeds.

Foredeck cushions and sunbed transform it into a convivial area, as well as pulpits at bow.

The cockpit is in continuation of the saloon, offering a vast and sociable area. The cockpit table can sit up to 8 guests, and there are relaxing sofas on the side and back. A staircase easily leads to the helm and flybdridge, and a cockpit fridge can be fitted below.

Interior design of the Saba 50

The interior design is cosy, with soft colours and elegant style.

Natural light is a major bonus, through roof and panoramic windows in the saloon, a wide window door opening onto the cockpit, large windows in all cabins.

Layouts of the Fountaine Pajot SABA 50

There are 4 different accommodation versions to fit all sailing projects:

  • The Saba 50 Maestro offers 4 cabins (2 on each side) out of which an owners' suite at port, and 4 bathrooms.
  • The Saba 50 Maestro Crew is similar at port with an Owners cabin, and has 3 starboard cabins.
  • The Saba 50 Quintet has 6 cabins and 6 bathrooms, ie 3 on each side.
  • The Saba 50 Quintet VIP has 3 cabins with one accessible from the cockpit directly, and 2 starboard.

Many people ask us, “ Is the Saba 50 a good luxury catamaran? ”

When it comes to assessing this Fountaine Pajot-built yacht , we can’t say enough good things.

From specs to layout to extra features, the Saba 50 is a top-tier , large, luxury catamaran that delivers on comfort and performance for both long-haul and short-term sailing holidays.

With excellent space optimization, the Saba 50 is spacious but not too large, which makes it easily manoeuvrable and a true pleasure to sail—what we like to call a true performance cruising catamaran.

Whether you’re looking for a yacht to take you on an island-hopping holiday or a vessel that’s suitable for longer, mile-building trips, the Saba 50 is your best bet .

We share more details on why in our Saba 50 review.

Saba 50 , helm station.

At 49 feet in length, the Saba 50 is a large catamaran that doesn’t skimp on providing space for guests to both socialize comfortably or lounge for some R&R on their own.

On deck, the Saba 50 layout features three distinct and separate lounging areas. Let’s take a look.

First, at the bow, you’ll find a conversation nook with two lounges—adequate space to host up to eight guests comfortably. Under the shade of the cabin house, this cosy nook is a cooler place to chill than the cockpit but still delivers on that awesome superyacht feel.

Next guests can also head to the aft cockpit. Two steps up from a swim platform on either side, this lounging area has a transom seat that can host six to eight guests; with a roof extending over the seat, you can spend the afternoon lounging in comfort without worrying about sweltering in the sun’s direct rays. The cockpit also features a dining table for outdoor meals. When folded, this table can fit six people, but it can also be expanded to seat a total of 10 guests for a truly elaborate meal.

Finally, on the flybridge, you’ll find a settee with seating for six people—and no matter where you’re seating, you’ll have a front-row seat to awe-inspiring views from your perch on the Saba 50. Bonus: This lounge area leaves enough room for guests to easily converse with the captain while sailing if desired.

As you head inside, the Saba 50 layout continues to dazzle. The catamaran’s four or five-cabin configuration—complete with four bathrooms—promises a 5-star, luxury experience for every guest on board with enough storage space to accommodate any wares you want to take along with you.

In the kitchen, a large island means multiple people can take part in meal preparation if they’d like or simply gather to socialize over their drink of choice. Meanwhile, a double-drawer fridge, a four-burner stove, a freezer, and an oven set the scene for cooking enthusiasts to prepare their favourite meals aboard the Saba 50.

Guests can also lounge indoors in the saloon, where a low settee and accompanying coffee table alongside built-in wine storage make for a cosy, indoor hideaway.

The outside and the inside of the Saba 50 are separated by a wide glass door, which makes it easy for guests to pass in and out. (This is particularly helpful in the kitchen, as meals can easily be passed outside via the sliding window by the sink to set up al fresco dining for every meal.)

Plus, overhead hatches and large windows mean the Saba 50 interior is always sunny and views of the crystal-clear water are never far away.

saba 50 catamaran layout

The Saba 50 specs prove this catamaran is a top choice for its space optimization, easy manoeuvrability, and comfort, but there are a host of extra features that also make this yacht a fan favourite among sailors.

For example, a teak cockpit and cockpit cushions add a touch of elegance. A dingy and stand up paddle bring fun extras to your on-board essentials. Skylight windows and a panoramic window promise natural beauty from every angle. And integrated solar panels deliver a powerful punch that you won’t find aboard most yachts.

To bring your Saba 50 sailing experience to the next level, you can also consider sailing with a full crew (a captain, chef, and hostess), so you can enjoy first-class luxury every moment of your trip.

Fountaine Pajot Saba 50 - 6 Cabin | Boomerang

Saba 50 - 6 Cabin | Catamaran - 2016

The Saba 50 is the net result of 34 years of research, development and refinement of the Fountaine Pajot line of catamarans. Though this may be a totally new design, it began its evolution in the late 1980's as the incredibly popular Bahia 46. Back in the day, the Bahia was the biggest production catamaran available for bareboat charters in the BVI. It also had the largest sleeping capacity of any cat in its size range. In 2007, after about 20 years of success, the model underwent its first growth spurt and was transformed into the Salina 48. In 2014 after a second growth spurt (and a lot of tweaking), the more sophisticated and streamlined Saba 50 was launched; immediately garnering much critical acclaim. It was awarded Sail Magazine's prestigious "best boat award" for 2015 ... and deservedly so. Keeping in mind that this yacht sleeps up to 13 people and recognizing the fact that most sailors spend the majority of their waking hours outdoors, Berret Racoupeau has delivered one of the most sociable yachts available for today's bareboat sailors. Boomerang is the ultimate "party boat" for 6 couples, and she's ideal for families with a gaggle of kids. The moment you step aboard, it becomes immediately evident that every square inch of usable deck space (that hasn't been dedicated to sailing functionality) has been claimed for social purposes, putting otherwise dead space to very good use. What a concept! There are four distinctly separate spaces in which sailors can gather aboard this yacht.

MORE DETAILS ON SOLEIL RAE

Our Saba 50, Soleil Rae, is light, spacious and comfortable and offers 4 Double Cabins & 1 Super Single Cabin each with its own electric head. In addition, she has 2 bow cabins, suitable for older children or singles. Full A/C with generator and a cockpit fridge & ice maker.

Saba 50 – Performance

Soleil Rae is elegant on the water, with high levels of sailing performance. This is integrated into the design process from the very beginning in order to give the craft its beautiful lines as well as the best possible levels of comfort, both at sea and at mooring. Movement on board has been designed so that there is direct communication between the cockpit, the helm station and the lounge deck.  Thus, the entire crew can easily move about in complete safety and without hindrance. Despite the boat’s size, it not only sails well, but remains easy to handle. The hulls, for example, have been given a fine entry for better performance, and a pair of fixed keels help the boat sail to weather. Your time under sail is simplified with 1 electric winch, a foot switch at the helm for the electric windlass and Chart plotter & radar, located one at the helm and one at the navigation table. The helm pod has a double seat and houses electronic displays, engine controls and the wheel. The winches are ahead and apart from the wheel so that anyone managing sails has room to work without getting in the way of the helms person. For single handing, the autopilot will come in handy.

Saba 50 – Accommodations

With the new Saba 50, Fountaine Pajot has optimized livability and comfort both inside and out. Multiple groups of people can socialize in segregated outdoor spaces, while the interior accommodations would put some hotels to shame. Soleil Rae has a generator and is fully air-conditioned for your comfort. The space on-board has been optimised in order to provide magnificent accommodation. The saloon and cockpit have generous storage areas, as do the passageways and the light-filled, spacious cabins.

Soleil Rae boasts 4 Double Cabins, 1 Super Single Cabin along with two very small single cabins in the bow, accessible through a hatch. Each of the 5 main cabins has it own dedicated washroom with electric head.  All main cabins have their own AC controls along with various lighting options. The super single would comfortably sleep 2 children, or 1 adult.

The social area on the main deck has a galley that would make even a land-dweller jealous. Her galley is equipped with a large double drawer, stainless steel refrigerator, along with an additional fridge and additional cockpit fridge. A center island means multiple people can participate in meal preparation. A 4 burner stove, counter lever oven, additional microwave and charcoal grill making cooking a breeze. A sliding window next to the sink means meals can be passed directly from the galley to the cockpit.

Saba 50 – Lounge Deck

With so much deck space on the Saba 50, Fountaine Pajot was able to create three distinct and relatively separate social areas. The first is at the bow, where a conversation nook includes two lounges with accompanying settees and a cocktail table. Eight people can easily gather here for sun downers and enjoy the shade of the cabin house instead of baking in the aft cockpit. It’s a very civilized space that still leaves room for lounging in the trampoline but adds a super yacht feel.

The aft cockpit, is two steps up from a swim platform on either hull. To port is the main dining table that seats six when folded, but also extends back to a long transom seat so a total of 10 people can be invited to dinner. An additional lounge is to starboard. A hardtop targa roof extends back over most of the cockpit, stopping just short of the transom seat so you can catch some sun if you like.

The “flybridge” has three sun lounges and an additional settee to seat six people comfortable. The view is fantastic, and everyone can converse with the captain without getting in the way, because the separate helm is two steps down to starboard.

PLEASE NOTE THAT THE PHOTOS OF THE SABA 50 ARE OF A SISTERSHIP, COMPLIMENTS OF FOUNTAINE PAJOT.
