Challenge Works, together with USAID and Government of Canada, we launch the Mombasa Plastics Prize to seek out innovative ideas to tackle marine plastic pollution on the Kenyan coastline in Mombasa. With partners Swahilipot Hub Foundation, Blue Globe Innovation, Brand Spark PR, Proportion – Human Centered Design agency , Mombasa Plastic Prize is looking for ambitious, dedicated and creative aspiring entrepreneurs and leaders (between the ages of 18 and 25), who want to help tackle the challenge of marine plastic waste mismanagement in Mombasa County’s informal settlements.
The Mombasa Plastic Prize aims to foster innovation and awareness among Mombasa County start-up entrepreneurs and leaders by fostering the development of solutions that address the problem of marine plastic waste mismanagement in informal settlements. increase.
The award is based on the Afri-Plastics Challenge initiative funded by Global Affairs Canada. This challenge aims to reduce marine plastic in sub-Saharan Africa by developing and scaling up innovative solutions to plastic mismanagement.
The prize will run between September 2022 and May 2023, but applications are due on November 8th 2022 at 3pm EAT.
After evaluating submissions, 60 finalists are selected and divided into 15 teams to develop their solutions. From January to May 2023, we’ll host a series of hack events for teams to develop and test their ideas. Get support from trained mentors and coaches, and receive funding to develop your ideas further. At the end of the process, three winning teams will be selected and awarded with incredible cash prizes.
