We rented a 460 Sea Ray Sundancer for 8 hours on our anniversary Jan 6, 2019. I was leery of booking something online in Mexico but the communication, rates and deposit due prior to arrival made me feel at ease. I had multiple questions about weather and other misc things leading up to the day and all emails were replied to in a timely manner. Transportation picked us up from our resort in Playa Mujeres on time. They upgraded us to a larger boat upon arrival. The boat was clean and the crew was very attentive to our needs. They provided guacamole and ceviche for our on board snack - I would recommend asking to upgrade the food to an actual meal if you’re planning on doing the 8 hour day. The weather held up to be a perfect day and they chartered us around to various places per our specifications of what we were looking for. They had food for the fish when snorkeling and quickly stopped by the Isla Mujeres Dock to get more mixers for us so we didn’t have to pay the $30 docking fee to tie up there. It was the most memorable anniversary yet and the crew, yacht, and communication leading up to the day was five stars all around. They even took pictures of us through the trip. I price searched all over the area and their pricing was hands down the best in town! We will be booking through them again our next visit the Cancun without a doubt.

Was the high lite of our vacation, yacht we chartered was exactly as described on website. The crew was very good, and attended to all our needs. I had been working with Nestor for over 7 months to plan my proposal on one of there amazing Yachts. I am sure I asked over 100 questions and with every email Nestor sent back not only was it sent in a timely manor but he answered every question and made me feel everything would run perfectly. We rented the Atlantis 55 and it was above our expectations! There was 13 of us and it accommodated everyone. Plenty of room, the food they had on the boat was great as well! The 8 hour trip was perfect! If you're looking for a luxury yacht for your trip to Mexico I highly recommend them!

We had a great time! We were taken to an island where we did get screwed over on the conversion a little bit when they gave us the total and then ran it in Pesos only giving us about a 9.5 conversion rate when it was supposed to be closer to 13. Also the deck crew took it upon themselves to order food on our tab without asking which I guess was fine since we just used it as there tip. Other than that the boat was great and Nester was great to work with!

Terms of refunds are dictated by the Charter Agreement. Generally, once a payment is collected, it is non-refundable. In certain circumstances, as dictated by the Charter Agreement, credits can be provided so you will be able to enjoy your yacht charter at a future date that is convenient for you.

1) Thrifty. We booked online for $852 U.S. for our given car / duration and when we got to the airport Thrifty we were informed they don't take the online bookings!? They started out saying the car was going to be $3000 U.S. We literally scoffed and started to walk away and they called us back and brought out a Manager who argued with us over the price as well eventually giving it to us for $1457. Tired and worn out we took it but were just exasperated by this. We travel a lot and are Thrifty Blue Chip customers so we're not done with this yet. If Thrifty can't guarantee their prices anywhere in the world what good are they as an international company. Anyone have a similar experience? Especially with Thrifty?

2) Local Police. For the first time ever in a LOT of trips up and down the coast we got shuffled into the pull out with the flag just outside of Playa. We did have two passengers not under a seat belt due to the receptacles being down in the seats. We should have taken the time to find them. I'll own that and that's against their law (though comical as a truck with a kid standing in the bed holding onto the rollbar drove by.) I digress. We were in the wrong. Fair enough. They also have us had them the rental car papers, open the windows and back and do a quick visual of everything. So the main officer (with a considerable language barrier) says we need to pay for the seat belt violation and need to pay now and it will be $1500 pesos or $100 U.S. My Father-In-Law who is very well-travelled acknowledged the infraction and said no problem but he would have to pay via Credit Card. He got it out and held it. There were three rounds of the officer insisting we pay with some kind of cash and my FIL just kept saying all we had was a card. Then, abruptly the officer said to just go, and we did. So come on...this was some kind of shake down right? In complete honestly none of us mind paying the infraction. Truly that's on us. But what we do all abhor is corruption with law officials in any country (and we've seen plenty of it.)

Along the Mayan Riviera we've never had anything like this and between the aforementioned Thrifty situation and this we are now reconsidering our annual ritual of coming down here each year. At a minimum we ditch the rental car and just get transportation but at a maximum we'll just look at going to Florida or somewhere in the U.S.

I'd love to hear other's comments on these issues and especially if you've been down here recently.

We dropped Tulum because of violence. We still have a month to go…hopefully we don’t drop the trip altogether…

Well I still overall feel safe here but it doesn't help if you feel you can't trust the police. You expect some price gouging and all that but go with the international companies (like Thrifty) to try and avoid that as best you can. But this this was the first where we interacted with an official that we were not sure was above board and that is always a dangerous thing. Depending on where you stay you'll be very safe once inside your resort / area etc. for sure.

I refuse to drive in Mexico. And I drive! Because of the exact reasons you mentioned. I don’t need those type of problems on vacation!

IF YOU DO RENT and driving around I guess one tip would be to stay in the right hand lane when you go through the checkpoints because they tend to pull those in the left lane over more as they stand and have the pullout on that side. We also observed they tend to pull over what appear to be rentals and tourists mostly. It's their country for sure and I respect that. I even respect their right to give me a ticket for breaking their law but these cash payout shakedowns I do not respect.
