Why Hydrofoil?

Tested and Recommended Replacement Control Line Ropes

The TillerClutch and TillerClutchX use 5mm control line rope. This rope must be a firm double-braid with an actual diameter very close to 5mm or slightly smaller. It should run smoothly through the device and be resistant to abrasion.  The following ropes have passed our careful testing procedures, and are recommended for TillerClutch use:

Cutting and Ending a New Control Line Be sure to prepare the ends to fit easily through your TillerClutch: Tightly wrap the line with paper masking tape, cut the rope through the tape with a razor knife, melt the ends with a flame, and then unwrap the ends to make sealed ends that are no larger than the rope itself.

WaveFront, Inc. warrants its TillerClutchTM products for the lifetime of the products.

What the Warranty Covers All parts of a TillerClutch are covered by this warranty for workmanship, integrity, durability, and proper functioning of the product.

What the Warranty Does Not Cover This warranty does not cover the tiller or control rope or any other accessories. Nor does it cover any part of a boat or any other property. In no way shall WaveFront, Inc. be liable for any amount exceeding the product’s purchase price.

What We Will Do to Correct Problems You will be responsible for removing and returning the product to us. Upon receiving the product, we will repair or replace a defective product at our discretion and return it to you in good working order at no cost besides that of return postage.

Return Policy Within 60 days of purchase, if for any reason you are unsatisfied, return your product with a copy of your receipt for a full refund to the address found on www.WaveFrontMarine.com.

Who Is Covered This warranty extends to the original purchaser having a receipt as proof of purchase. If you have lost your receipt, contact us and we will determine how to proceed.

Voiding the Warranty Actions that could void the warranty at our discretion include tampering with the product or disassembly, improper use or abuse, and the application of solvents to the self-lubricating synthetic bushings. Normal heavy use is covered by the warranty.

DISCLAIMER Safely steering and piloting a boat is the responsibility of the helmsman, who must be attentive and use caution when leaving the tiller for any reason. Always wear a life jacket while sailing.

Sailors of unballasted boats should use extra caution when securing the tiller with a TillerClutchTM, and should only do so if they are experienced. The tiller should not be secured with any device in potentially dangerous weather conditions.

The more powerful TillerClutchX model is intended only for the strongly-built boats, and should not be used on light-weight portable boats, and unballasted boats.

Wavefront, Inc. and its owners do not under any circumstances assume responsibility for damages to any person or property that may be incurred in connection with the use of its products.

If the purchaser chooses not to abide by this disclaimer, he/she is welcome to return their TillerClutch product to WaveFront, Inc. within 60 days of purchase for a full refund.

The standard TillerClutch is intended for lighter or well-balanced tiller-steered sailboats that typically sail in fair to moderate conditions or sheltered waters. It is recommended for all but the lightest trailer-size sailboats and day sailors generally up to 24 ft (7 m) or so. The steering effort you feel in the tiller is usually under 15 lb (7 kg), about the weight of a bowling ball.

The TillerClutchX  is the same physical size, but it provides extra holding power for heavier boats, such as keel boats, stout trailer boats about 25 ft (7 m) and up, traditional cat boats and blue water boats of all sizes. These boats can generate greater steering effort, often above 15 lb (7 kg), and they tend to sail in more varied conditions. Some smaller, stout-built boats with heavy weather helm can also benefit from the TillerClutchX.

The TillerClutchX is not recommended for most smaller, lighter trailer-size boats.  It can allow greater loads on the steering components than they are designed to handle. Also, if ever necessary, it takes more effort to overpower the “X” model without first squeezing the lever.  Still, unlike using an “autohelm,” you can force the tiller, if necessary, without disengaging the mechanism of either model.

Note, neither model is recommended for ultralight unballasted sailboats like the Sunfish or Laser, which require constant hand steering.

It is simple to upgrade from the standard TillerClutch to the TillerClutchX. The outside dimensions and screw placement are identical.

Mounting Servo Mini Cam Cleats

Trim the thin plastic tabs on the bottom of the cam cleats with a utility knife as shown below.

Determine the position of the cam cleats on the boat and mark the screw locations. Pre-drill screw holes in fiberglass with a 1/8” (3.2 mm) bit for the included No. 6 screws. (For other hardware with No. 8 screws, use a 9/64” (3.5 mm) bit.)

Chamfer (flare) the top of the hole just through the overlying gel coat, using a countersink or a much larger drill bit. We recommend running the drill in reverse for this procedure. Use a marine sealer on the screw threads to prevent leaks.

World-class laminated tiller for your sailboat. Our tillers are built in-house from top quality wood selected for its strength and beauty. Eight strips of laminated African mahogany and white ash are glued in our proprietary molds to produce tillers for specific boat models. Each tiller is coated with a marine grade spar varnish. I'm afraid I need to sell my Cal 22 sailboat. I bought this boat in the fall, and spent the winter making everything clean and safe. I inspected and tuned-up the mast, the hull, the upholstery, the electronics, etc.. She was launched 7 weeks ago. And unfortunately, 6 weeks ago my wife and kids decided that they hate sailing. This boat comes with a ton of extras, and a trailer. It can be easily trailed to anywhere you might wish with any kind of truck or SUV, and it draws no water. It has a 9.9 Honda that always starts, and also a very clean set of sails. The whole boat was professionally reupholstered a few years back. It has a West Marine dinghy, autopilot, stove, bbq, toilet. Because of it's length, berthing fees are cheap. I pay $100/month to berth in San Mateo. Insurance is also cheap. I pay $125/year to insure with Boat US, and $180/year for CA registration. I am happy to deliver this boat anywhere in California for a reasonable price. Here are the specifics:Motor: Honda 9.9, 5 gallon gas tank; recently cleaned and filled; 1 container of engine oilRudder: easily removable for trailering; new in 2002. Tiller: One is brand new and nicely varnished; the other is a spare; comes with a cover to protect the varnish; two telescoping tiller extensions; Autopilot: I'm not kidding. Who installs an autopilot on a 22 foot sailboat?Transom traveler: keeps the cockpit nice and cleanStanchions: Vey solid; guardrails were recently inspected and tightened; new guardrail covers come with the boat, as well as baby or pet netting. Sails: mainsail, jib, genoa, and spinaker, with two spinaker poles (all new in 2003; cost approx $2400)Boom/Mast: everything washed, inspected and lubed in April 2014. Nothing overlooked. Halyards runs smoothly. Has a excellent masthead windex.Lines: All halyards and sheets washed and inspected this past winter. Electronics: Compass and depth finder mounted permanently in boat. Electric system works nicely. There is a solar panel that trickle charges the 12v battery; this powers the autopilot, the masthead light, the bow and transom lights, the cabin lights, and depth finder. All connections look good.Navigation: GPS and chart plotter (via netbook)Docking: 2 fenders, several docks lines, 2 boat hooks.Anchors: two anchors, one brand new; chains inspected, cleaned and lubed in April 2014Bellow deck; nice, clean pillows and upholstery ($1872 project in 2011); new alcohol stove, water tank, sink, toilet, cooler, removable wood dining tableEmergency supplies: flares, fire extinguisher, fog hornWinches: Nice clean winches for the jib sheetJib Furler: This thing looks like overkill on a 22-footer, but is actually really convenient, especially when you're the only person on deck who can sail. Other: Bucket with boat cleaning supplies (soap, brushes, sponges, etc. . ..); West Marine inflatable dinghy, with 2 oars and lifting strapsPaperwork: Trailer registered with DMV; has a Permanent Trailer Identification card (registration never expires); Boat is registered until January 1, 2016. For Sale is my 1966 Tartan 27. I own this boat for almost 3 years and have spend countless days of restoring it. It still needs some TLC, but mostly cosmetic. Rebuilt Cabin Hatch with wood and Fiberglass. Very sturdy and no leakage. Installed new Lexan (unbreakable) main cabin windows. Sealed with the strongest RTV Silicone. This is the same silicone that's used for sealing engine oil pans. Removed all other window frames and resealed with RTV Silicone. Completely rebuilt interior floor with pressure treated plywood and Fiberglass. Reinforced Mast footer with several layers of Fiberglass. Removed engine, cleaned, checked and painted. New Raw water pump, new mixing elbow, new muffler. Completely rebuilt engine bed with pressure treated plywood and several layers of Fiberglass. Installed engine with new upgraded motor mounts. Installed new electric head flushing system. The boat has no waste water holding tank. Only direct discharge. By law the head can only be used when at least 9 miles offshore. I do most my sailing much further out, so for me that wasn't a problem. For closer coastal cruising there would be the need for a holding tank or the use of a portable toilette. Installed remote control electric winch to self hoist to the top of the mast. This is a very unique and safe feature when used with a bosins chair and safety lines. Can be done completely single handed. I'm scared of heights but with this setup I winched myself up to the top of the mast and installed the new VHF antenna. All new 1/2" Halyards for Main and Head Sails. I also replaced every other working rope / halyard with brand new highest quality materials. All new LED interior and exterior lighting / navigation lighting. Front LED wide beam spotlight to see in the dark. I rebuilt the whole interior using mostly wood . Still needs some work but not too much. Boat is extremely clean and pleasant inside. Great Alpine CD / Radio sound system with (4) 6.5" Coaxial Speakers (2 kicker, 2 JBL). It really sounds fantastic. Brand new Standard Horizon VHF fixed mounted Marine Radio and Standard Horizon hand held for backup. Both fully waterproofed. 2 new marine fire extinguishers. 2 new batteries. New 100W Highest quality solar panel installed with charging regulator. Keeps both batteries fully charged, never have to use shore power. 1500 W Power Inverter for 110V. All new electrical wiring, switches and panels. New digital Dept sounder. 2 GPS Chart-plotters, 1 outside (Standard Horizon), 1 inside for backup (Garmin). I have for sale a 1981 O'Day 22 MH Sailboat. $3200 OBO This boat has a 4.5HP 2 stroke Johnson Seahorse outboard. The motor runs great and starts on the second pull. Very light motor. This is a great boat if you are an experienced sailor or just starting out. The battery is new (purchased 10/3/14). it is a deep cycle battery. I will also include a trickle charger. The sails are is great shape. The cushions could be redone to make it perfect. It has a swinging Keel. The Keel is stored under the boat instead of inside the cabin. New bottom paint May 2014 The draft is 1.9 feet (from the water line to the bottom of the keel). it would probably float good loaded up in about 2.5 feet of water. This boat is located in Bay St. Louis, Ms The boat is registered in Mississippi in my name. The interior wood has been refinished & stained previously. The tiller has also been refinished. I also have a device i made to raise the mast. it is a 2x4 with a mount that connects to the bottom of the mast. You hook the front mast support up to the device, and from the device to the front of the boat through the rigging. i have a boat winch on the device & some rigging. this allows the mast to come up with ease. Just crank it right up. 1 person could probably do it, but i usually have someone else help me to keep the mast from moving left or right while raising. I do not leave the boat in the water. I launch & rig up every outing. I keep the boat at my home while not in use. This boat come with the following: 2 jib sails. The P-28 was built during 1955 - 1973 up to construction number 536.The P-28 has been built in many different versions. In the beginning all hulls and superstructures were built in mahogany and had fractional rigging. At the end of the 50s a masthead rig replaced the fractional rig and the design of the main window was improved to two individual windows. 1975 Irwin 30 SailboatThis is a classic cruiser class racer that has been through a recent refurbishment. The previous owner had used it as a racing day sailor before we bought it in the Winter of 2013 when we began a rehab of the boat to bring it back to cruising condition. The boat has strong bones and the making of a great family cruiser with off shore capability. We launched the boat in January 2014 and lived aboard for three weeks before putting it on the hard again and heading back to our Northern home. The hull is in fantastic shape, please see the improvements below. It is ready to launch with new bottom paint and every below the water line through hull replaced (including prop shaft and stuffing box).Our personal situation does not allow us to see the project to completion but the big stuff has been taken care of.
