Cinema Without Borders Comes To Kenya

Cinema Without Borders, a multi-day interactive workshop programme recently announced the launch of their new edition in Nairobi, Kenya, with a call to apply to participate in their workshops in November.

The programme is designed for film festival organizers to strengthen new human rights film festivals and enhance the sustainability of existing festivals. In addition to connecting with like-minded festivals, sharing ideas and building new networks, participants get inspired and assisted.

Film festival organizers from Burundi, Ethiopia, Kenya, Rwanda, Somalia, South Sudan, Tanzania and Uganda are invited to join the Nairobi edition, four day workshop taking place from November 28th to December 1st. The workshop is centered on how to organize a human rights film festival or mobile cinema project.

The goal of the workshop is to have participants in East Africa gain practical knowledge and get fresh ideas and opportunities to strengthen their network. The workshops will allow participants to exchange experiences and best practices, gain inspiration and assistance to further develop their own festival. The interactive workshops will address various aspects of organizing a human rights film festival, such as programming films and organizing debates, fundraising, impact strategies, promotion and reaching new audiences.

The workshop has space for only 15 qualified participants from the field of cinema and human rights, who already have some experience in organizing at least one socially engaged film event/ festival. To qualify, applicants need a good level of English and a relationship to a reliable non-profit organization. Selection is based on motivation and experience. Gender and regional balance of participants is also taken into account.

There is no participation fee, costs for travel and lodging will be covered and we expect participants to be available for all the 4 days of the programme.
