Newport Classic Yacht Co. is a

Welcome Aboard Temma, our beautiful 42ft, one off custom built commuter yacht. Built 1928 in Boothbay Maine by BW Rand's Boat Shop. Originally named Priscilla for the Teel Family in Boston MA. Before Pricilla, BW Rand's Boat Shop built a Sam Crocker Design with a raised deck. BW Rand later realized that with a couple changes he could improve upon the original Sam Crocker Design. With borrowed molds, the shop spaced some sections, neglected the raised deck opting for the long cabin top and adjusted the stern layouts. Temma was built long deep but skinny enough for just the right amount of power easily pushed along. With a displacement hull, speed was never in the design but stability & space combined with the smooth styling, Temma is perfect for what she does. Over the years multiple families have been the caretakers of this iconic New England Yacht & each have maintained her perfectly, for the next owners to continue on the legacy. Newport Classic Yacht Co. welcomes you to our private yacht endeavor, Temma.

Once you confirm your reservation, your broker will process your payment.

• If you are booking for a single day and your reservation is confirmed more than 7 days in advance, a deposit of either $1,000 USD or 50% of the total cost of the reservation (whichever is greater) is processed immediately in order to hold the yacht. Once your embarkation date is 7 days away, the remainder of the amount due is processed.
• If you are booking for a single day and your reservation is made 7 days or less in advance, the total price of your reservation is processed immediately.
• If you are booking for a multi-day charter and your reservation is confirmed more than 30 days in advance, a deposit of 50% of the cost of the yacht is processed immediately in order to hold the yacht. Once your embarkation date is 30 days away, the other 50% is collected for the price of the yacht, plus the APA, plus the taxes due.

Terms of refunds are dictated by the Charter Agreement. Generally, once a payment is collected, it is non-refundable. In certain circumstances, as dictated by the Charter Agreement, credits can be provided so you will be able to enjoy your yacht charter at a future date that is convenient for you.

One door closes, another opens. Newport's Scales & Shells gets a familiar face as new chef

There's a new job in store for a chef who recently announced the closing of his restaurant.

Richard Allaire, chef and owner of Metacom Kitchen , said last week the restaurant would close their doors in Warren on April 22.

This week, Newport restaurant Scales & Shells announced Allaire as their new chef. The seafood restaurant is at 527 Thames St.

Scales & Shells also recently announced they are partnering with Crisp Restaurant Group, whose owners are former associates of Allaire.

Allaire and wife Sue opened Metacom Kitchen nine years ago at 322 Metacom Ave. They took over the space that was Tinker's Nest. Allaire took to social media last week to say he now has a desire to do new things. The job at Scales & Shells was that new thing apparently.

A Newport native, Allaire was at the helm in the Broadway kitchen of the former Tucker's Bistro in Newport. He was on the team at L'Epicureo at the Hotel Providence and was an investor and the chef when Providence Coal Fired Pizza opened in Providence in 2012.

His then partners at Providence Coal Fired Pizza, now operate as the Crisp Restaurant Group. They include Michael Santos, Dave Bertolini and Ed Restivo. They own not only the pizzerias in Providence and North Kingstown but also Union Station Brewery, Wes's Rib House and Barnaby's Public House, all in Providence.

Scales & Shells was founded in 1987 by Debra and Andrew Ackerman. They retired in 2022 and sold to the Peregrine Group who own the Newport Yachting Center.

A month ago on social media, the restaurant announced its partnering with the Crisp Restaurant Group. The restaurant has been closed for renovations and will reopen on May 1.

Captains should be solid sailors with demonstrable boat handling experience particularly in docking in tight quarters. Aquidneckoperates in busy Newport Harbor and Narragansett Bay so you must be unflappable under pressure, and know the rules of the road. You should be professional, courteous, respectful and enjoy being a good host.
